That dude's right. Weed needs to be legalized, but not only for pharmaceutical purposes. Canada has the right idea, there marijuana is legal if its sold by a licensed dealer. The USA needs to have similar laws. If marijuana is legalized and then taxed heavily the trade can be controlled by the government. If the money that the government put into drug law enforcement was instead put into rehab programs, the USA would be a safer place. Burnouts would be able to seek help without worrying about the law, and the jails would be much less crowded.

I would double check your facts because as far as i know the sale and possesion of herb is still illegal everywhere in canada and probably will be for several years to come.
While there is no doubt that someday it will be legalized, there are some serious roadblocks that must be cleared first:
1. Age. There will have to be a 'legal' age set in regards to who can purchaze marijuana and who can't. It will most likely be the same as alcohol (19) but i also wouldn't be surprised if the age was set to 21 or even higher.
2. Cultivation. Regardless of the laws concerning the possesion of marijuana, cultivation laws will not change. It will still be illegal to grow your own and anyone who think they will be able to have 10 plants growing in their basement and not be at risk of spending some time with Bubba is sadly mistaken. For the same reasons that you cannot run your own distillery you won't be able to grow your own: the government wants your money and they will be able to tax the _SHIT_ out of weed.
3. Availability: Will it be sold in corner stores or will there be specially licensed establishments like the LCBO stores where you can purchase your greenery...CCBO??
4. Do you also legalize other drugs that belong to the same family such as hash/oil? The obvious answer would be no, since hash is seen as a more 'hardcore' drug, but since all it is is the collected resin glands from the plant itself, shouldn't it also be legalized?
5. Intoxication laws: It will have to be decided whether or not there will be any specific laws regarding public intoxication from weed or if it will be treated the same way as alcohol. In either case, there will have to be a device that could measure thc/blood levels in the field not just in a blood test at a clinic or hospital.
Those are just a few of the barriers that must be crossed first, barriers that will no doubt cause the roll-out of store-bought weed to be slowed. Personally, i wouldn't mind if the situation stayed the way it is now as things are much less complicated this way.

if any drug should be illegal, it should be alcohol, and if any drug should be legal, it is pot. Has anyone ever died of overdosage of weed? no, but many die from alcohol. Plus, alcohol makes some people violent. Say your at a party, you bump into an asshole drunk, he might swing on you. If you bump into a pot head, he says hey what's up, sorry about that man. Like anything, if you smoke too much, their are affects, but if there were limits on the amount you could buy it might be good, and the government could make billions of dollars a year in the us and candada. A lot of people are getting put into jails because of weed possesion, and jail makes them worse. Anyone ever see the movie blow ? peace

Why make ANY drug illegal? Why should the government tell us what we can and cannot do?

everyone also must realize that there are side effects of weed. Although it is a great thing and it can help people cope with many ailments and just life in general, those who think it is this wonder drug that can never hurt you are very wrong.
I can vouch personally that weed can fuck you up. It will turn you into an unmotivated sack of hippey shit. Hence, why i am sitting at home at 11:45 when i should be at my classes. That's why i am done with weed for awhile because i want to try and gauge myself what the actual side affects are.
Already, after just 3 days, my short-term memory is better, i can form intelligent sentences again (wow...i really was smart once! w00t!) and i have more money in my wallet cuz i am not scoring all the time.
n-e-ways, this has no point but i felt like sharing :-)

*sorry about all these posts but people are posting at the same time as me*
because if we didn't make some drugs illegal people would be turned into vegetables because they shot up NPTP when they thought they were testing a batch of homemade crank.
A totally drug-law-free society would eventually collapse in on itself since as humans we have very addictive personalities...whether or not you believe it some DO need to have their decisions made for them...although that does make a good case for the reintroduction of natural selection...hmmmmm....

i just read the other article by lineskier123 entitled 'marijuana' and there are a couple things that bothered me.
Anything that burns produces carcinogens. That is a proven fact and marijuana is not immune to that fact. By inhaling the smoke you are inhaling carcinoges which will eventually lead to cancer. The reason why you most likely won't develop cancer from smoking herb is that you don't smoke enough of it.
Also, you must think of more than just respiratory problems when discussing weed consumption. There are various stomach ailments that can result from swallowing smoke, all of which can result in long-term damage to your stomach and trachea.
Anyways, i am too tired and sick to stare at the computer screen.

I think the biggest factor that will stop weed from being legalized in the US is because the government doesnt want the country to look 'dirty.' Thats just my opinion but I think it holds true. I think the gov wants a clean image of America, as clean as it can get.

If we want to kill ourselves, it still should be our decision. I know it sounds stupid, but I truly believe in it. I know this reasoning is flawed.

Honestly i like weed as much as the nearest pothead.(yeti) but there are alot more better chemical pharmacuticals to cure the same ailments as marijuana. They are cheaper. Marijuana is used as a mild painkiller and also as an appetitie builder.
The only reason marijuana should be legalized is that it isnt economically pheasable (SP?) to keep it illegal.

But, with the principle of supply and demand, the price of marajuana would drop dramatically because it would be produced by major pharmaceutical(sp?) companies like Pfizer. It would be readily and cheaply availible.

Also, liver and other damage can occur from many other pain killers. You don't have that risk with marajuana.

i read somewhere about taking out certain chemicals in the herb and puting them into a pill form called marinal. basically it wouldhave the effects of pot without any health risks, it said it wold also be good for people with asthma becuase weed works as a natural filter ot your lungs

oh god i am totally for the legalization, but like anything it has to be regulated. It would deffinitly make it easier when you can't seem to score off of anyone...just walk to the nearest corner store and pick up a pack of blunts :-)
as for the post about weed acting as a filter for your lungs...huh?! That's like saying drinking motor oil will cleanse your digestive track.

I agree that if pot is legalized, it has to be regulated...and along the same lines as alcohol.
1. have a min. age to purchase and smoke
2. like alcohol, it can only be smoked in licenced establishments or in your own home....not smoked in public
3. no smoking and driving (they'll have to come up with a new test to test for pot in someones system)
4. just like you can't bootleg your own alcohol, you can't grow your own pot
5. regulate the amount of THC there is in weed or other chemicals.
6. if the gov't is smart they'll tax the shit out of it, get us out of debt

As for the pill form, it would work, but there was a study in switzerland that i read about (sorry i can't seem to find the link...still looking though) three test groups...one was given regular potency weed, the second was given a placebo weed that had no or very small amounts of THC and the third was given none. All of the people in the groups suffered from acute arthritic pain. The results were sort of surprising because the patients who consumed either the low-thc or the regular-thc weed, both reported the same amount of pain reduction. Further inquiry into the study showed that even 1/100th the amount of THC that is found in everyday weed could prove to be very beneficial to sufferes of chronic pain. The point of this is that the more likely scenario is for drug makers to merely include very small quantities of Tetrahydrocannabinol in already established medicines such as tylenol.
Sorry i can't find the link because i am sure i am leaving a few details out but i'll keep on looking.

Theres a store in vancouver called blunt bros. 371 west hastings road. I suggest you go there if you like to smoke weed in a warm comfortable environment with any brand and blend you want at your fingertips, legally. Don't believe me? Look it up.

i think legalizing would be great, but it would kinda take out half the fun. for example, if the amount of THC was regulated, everyone would be smoking dirt, because the government definately wouldnt make BC bud the national standard.
does that make any sense?
