I think the table is set.
Im not religious...at all.....but this is insane.
humanity is SO crooked.
I work in a national newsroom. I have seen footage that has not made it to air....
The devasation of Katrina is so much worse that you have seen.
Women being raped by authorities, neighbors...babies dead on the sidewalk - bodies strewen everywhere with people stealing the jewelry off of them.
People shooting those who are trying to help.
The heart of man is wicked. I have never seen anything like it.
This was not the character of man during 9-11. This was not the character of man during the Southeast Asia Tsunamis.
I am sickened by this world, and totally devastated.
As a news reporter, I don't even want to go to work - because I have to look at it.
Its frightening, not heartbreaking. Just terrifying.

i am pretty sure, that if you had the same camera structure in the area of the tsunami (26th of december '04) like you have now in the us, you would have seen more violence, more destruction and just a tougher overall impression of the whole thing.

not that i say that things happening now are not hard for the concerned people but its seems tougher because you have more information about this than on other catastrophys.

a couple years ago the entire country of argentina was in anarchy after a bank system collapsed and the population tried to overthrow the government...many riots have occured like this but it will soon be quelled and dealt with and normal life will be restored

Lord of the Flies is a good reference, i dont really have faith in alot of humanity though i have seen some happy endings on tv, like families getting united so i believe there are good people. i really think whats happening in New Orleans is horrible though theres no reason to go desturbing the dead or people's homes, take what you need, bread and water and work your way out of the city on foot to the nearest hospital and wait for a helicopter, thats what people are advised to do

Using that reasoning you have no right to comment on anything related to Canada or the media in Canada, nor anything related to Jodi or her job because you're not Canadian nor are you a reporter, nor do you know Jodi. That argument works both ways.

I'm assuming you live in the South and are experiencing these things first hand? If you don't, by your recommendation, shut your fucking mouth.

OR you could let people speak their opinions, however informed or uninformed they may be. Not everyone has the opportunity to experience things first hand--yourself included.

Hmmm.

The media are responsible for people picking up guns and shooting at aide workers? The media made them pick up the guns? Glory? What glory? There's nothing glorious about dead bodies and looting.

Media outlets aren't helping these people? So the radio broadcast of New Orlean's mayor rightly chastizing the President for his lack of appropriate response isn't help? Informing citizens isn't helping? Television broadcasts airing critical emergency information doesn't help the thousands of displaced evacuees understand the unfolding of the events?

Also: the media profitting off this is only natural. Unless you're planning on giving up some tax dollars to have federally supported media, you should probably rethink that argument. Advertisers pay media outlets, media outlets run the ads. That's how it works. If companies spend more money on advertising during natural disasters, that's not the media outlet's fault. That's companies understanding that you and I will be watching and listening and sucseptible to their advertisements.

So are companies who are paid to rebuild these destroyed cities guilty of exploiting this disaster also? Afterall, they'll be profitting too, just as the media are now.

AND even if the media profits off of their coverage of the disaster, how does that cause the problems that are going on there now? It's called personal responsibility. Don't use the media as some catch-all scapegoat. The problem is the people who are acting violently and their choice to do so.

The media has no causal relationship to poverty-stricken, uneducated morons looting and pillaging at an oportune moment.

"Life's a bitch--then you die." Is that how you undertake your favorite hobby ("happiness")? That's most pessimistic bullshit view on life one can have. Next time you're in a medical emergency, I hope the EMT tells you "hey, life's a btich--now die." We'll see how you feel about that attitude then.

This morning on a CBC radio2 news brodcast I heard something about the aftermath of the hurricane which made me feel sick to my stomach. A distrot lady (and I use the term 'Lady' losly) was explaining how the US was sending in somehting like 15 000 (This number may be wayyy off... I wasnt totaly awake when my alarm clock went off and the report came on) fully armed soldiers who would have absolutly no problems shooting disastar victims.

To me, that is what is wrong with the world. Not the looting and the lawlessness brought on by hunger and the bad choices of individuals(wich has been part of human nature since the beginning of recorded history and before and is only ever held in check by governemnts and laws) but the Governments who are sending soldiers in to restor order and SHOOT the victims of this disastar is it is so required. That is disgusting. That is where the evil in this world is.

The only way to get rid of bad, like the bad which has happened to New Orleans, is to counter it with good. By reaching out quickly with the best of intentions. Not wit more bad and threats.

you misunderstood my post. i meant journalist are not just reporting facts. most of the time, they show only one part of reality (see irak), and give their opinion (right now in france it's "bouh, bush is a baaad president... it's his fault".

Its is terrible what is happening to those people in the disaster area. However, many of them are paying for their mistake of STAYING FOR THE STORM. They had ample warning and ample chances to move to a safer place. My sympathy is limited for people that stayed.

To clarify, I don't mean the people who took refuge in the Dome, I mean the morons that stayed in their houses.

I'm not as disgusted with the actual looting, any of you would loot a grocery store if it were a matter of life and death. Though looting a Soundtrack is entirely different, people like that can rot in prison.

I'm am disgusted with the sheer stupidity of the individuals who didn't take steps to put themselves in a safe position. Sitting inside your house WAITING for a massive hurricane to come your city that is largely at or below sea level...doesn't that seem just slightly dangerous. Its a blatant lack of reasoning. Hurricane = Bad.

Its like camping on train tracks waiting for the five o'clock express to come. What do you think is going to happen? Is the train going to shower you with candy and flowers? Hell no! Its going to hit you and make a nasty mess.

I wonder, do people even think of coincidences before they take an action, or lack thereof? Do people not think ahead? What the fuck are they teaching in schools?!?

Granted, I don't think many could predict that the damage to be so massive. Hell, I didn't even think New Orleans would be THAT messed up.

I donated money so that I can help people rebuild what was destroyed by the storm. I didn't donate to correct the error of a bunch of idiots.
