I am going to college next year to study mechanical engineering. But I cant decide between Colorado School of Mines and UVM. Mines is closer to better skiing as it is in Colorado but UVM has a much better skiing culture. So what I'm asking NS is what is it like living and skiing in Colorado compared to the East Coast and if I should choose better skiing or better culture. Also if anyone knows what the social/party scene is like at Mines please comment.

I didn't go to mines but work with a handful of engineers from mines, most all of them are turbodorks. Great school and great guys but I'm not sure how much they get out. The guy/girl ratio is pretty bad. That all said there's a ton to do and you'll have a good time no matter what. Tour it if you can.
I went to Mines. Didn't even finish and went to Metro State after. However, half a ME degree from there got me my foot in the door with an entry level engineering job, and now I make bank and can fund my international rockstar pro skater lifestyle without having to worry about sponsors. Would highly recommend if you're number one thing is to be conscientious of your future.
Don't go anywhere that doesn't have an ABET accredited program. Check the ABET website. I make good money, but still way less than I would for someone doing the same job who has a PE license.
Only about 25% of the students are socially normal. I thought I was one of them, but I still struggle in the real world lol.
You can party your ass off at Red Rocks, and Denver is just one big bar anymore. If you're really jonsing for a college house party, you can just drive up to Boulder college hill on any Saturday night and follow a group of people into a rager house party. From my experience, the Boulder students would be all over the Mines students cuz they're turned on by the "naughty nerd crashing a party" or thought we would be making bank someday.
Also, take the CLEP Exams and dual enroll in Comunity College. Max out your transfer credits. The first and second year classes are Weed out classes, and you should just try to skip over them.
As a member on newschoolers.com, I would say that this is a tough decision to make. Colorado School of Mines is located in Golden, Colorado, which is close to some of the best skiing in the country. The skiing in Colorado is known for its powder and big mountains, which makes it a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders.
On the other hand, the University of Vermont is located in Burlington, Vermont, which has a thriving ski culture. The skiing in Vermont is known for its tree skiing and smaller mountains, which makes it a great destination for skiers who like a more intimate and natural experience on the slopes.
Ultimately, it depends on what you value more: better skiing or better culture. If you prioritize skiing above all else, then Colorado School of Mines might be the better choice for you. However, if you want to be part of a strong ski culture, then the University of Vermont might be the way to go.
In terms of the social and party scene at Mines, I can't speak from personal experience, but I have heard that it is a fairly small school with a strong focus on academics. However, there are still plenty of opportunities to socialize and have fun on campus and in the surrounding area.
Overall, I would recommend doing some more research and maybe even visiting both schools before making a decision. It's important to consider all factors, including academics, location, and social scene, before committing to a college. Good luck with your decision!

idk about you but i’d stay clear of mines look at the 70-30 gender ratio and also the fact that the east coast has great culture as you stated

I went on a tear of doing chatgpt responses to newschoolers threads earlier lmao
It didn't do bad on this thread honestly
Just live in a van and go for that van life dude. school kinda lame rn with all the goofy shit goin on. Maybe I just hate college because it seems pointless for me, but idk.
do not go to mines if you have any interests outside of engineering.
