Seems to be a major trend no matter where or what the snow conditions are. Copper and Breck for instance are 5 miles apart as the crow flies and generally get the same amount of snow. Copper now has the entire front side open plus a couple bowls, while Breck hasn't yet opened peak 10 or 6, just a few runs off the T-bar. I assume staffing must be the issue, since they can't blame mother nature anymore, and no one wants to work for Vail when Taco Bell pays more.
100% agree. Same situation happening out here on the Ice Coast. If you use instagram, check out epicliftlines. They get a lot of submissions of previous/current vail employees talking about the understaffing issue while pass sales are higher than ever
give a shoutout to patrol for trying at least. im thankful our patrollers, despite the negotiations, have been cranking steady and opening up some fun skiing for us.

it was rad that Breck opened contest bowl, and really horseshoe too, the weekend before xmas, for hiking access. More of that please.
But generally, after spending a decade in Jackson and seeing how they open up and constantly control serious terrain very efficiently, I don't get why it takes Breck sooo long to bomb and open shit up.
Copper mountain is mainly north facing and breck is east. Even if they get the same amount of snow, it gets moved by the wind differently as wind typically comes from the west and deposits on east-facing. Ski patrol may need more time for avalanche mitigation.

This is what happens when a company doesnt give a shit about the people that works for them. Word spreads and no one wants to work for them. Maybe if vail focused on employees over shareholders... never mind that is never going to happen.
Just seems Vail plays catch up to trends, example raising starting wages but its always too late. They are only trying to appear like they care when in reality they dont give a fuck about anyone.

Thaynes and those connector runs below are open now apparently which means Jupiter access isn't too far behind. They're making progress on Peak 5 to. For sure by the weekend yo
It was like this before corona I remember waiting hours at Kirkwood one morning when there was only 8 or 9 inches of fresh snow. Same shit on a similar small storm at Squaw. It was pathetic and degrading to be herded like cattle and made to watch patrollers take lap after lap and ski it out themselves until 11.
They still haven't opened chair 4 lol.
