Looking to start accessing some backcountry in the coming seasons. I ride kartels now (98,108) love the feel of a nice heavy ski (PNW) but want to get outside the crud. Looking for a playful light ski to start taking out back. My search has narrowed me to these bad boys. Anyone like to compare or just share their experiences with either? I’d want to be in the 120 range but again new to touring so if that’s too wide lmk.
Honestly at some point you gotta just pick the ski you personally are most hyped on that speaks to you. You clearly arnt making a category mistake so just get the one you are digging. I personally got the line vision 108 cause I’m in CO with a bit less snow and ski in between new age and directional. It’s been rad.
They are made in the same factory. They are almost the same weight. Bentchetler is a full sidewall. Pick the color / availability!
I tour on my Bent Chetler 120s with Shifts, and they were my inbounds setup for a little while, too. They're stupid light for their size, really poppy, and though they do punch above their weight class in terms of overall stability I would never describe them as particularly capable in crud. Great pow ski. Good not great in crud. Surprisingly great on groomers. Playful, super fun to screw around on, and oddly a little less surfy than you might imagine for a 120mm waist ski.
My only issues touring have been that their width can make side-hilling on anything resembling hardpack or ice a little tough, and in hindsight if they are going to be a dedicated backcountry setup I would probably mount them a couple cm back from recommended (which I think is -2.5cm) - those big ol' tails can be a bitch to kick turn on steeps.
I absolutely love the whitewalker for touring! I have it mounted with a kingpin and it’s the most amazing setup I’ve ever owned! It tours amazing but still rips the resort super well. It’s got a ton of energy and pop! Super stable even in crappy conditions!
