What up NS, any recommendations for a good camera?
me and the boys be stacking clips this season
I don’t own but canon hf 800 is an affordable cam that has pretty great reviews. I’m considering getting one myself def look into it
Panasonic hmc150 is a great camera. A tad expensive but it’s compatible with a really good fisheye and has a sweet zoom. Video quality ain’t bad either and it puts all the film on an SD card.
iPhone is the best overall option, mfs are so convenient and stable and the zoom ain’t bad either. Plus if you wanted you could invest in a decent clip on fisheye lens for it.
i doubt youve heard of it but vx1000 pretty underground
Obama_carei doubt youve heard of it but vx1000 pretty underground
worst camera ever produced

I have an older canon xa10 camcorder that I like but it only works plugged in. Not sure what’s wrong with it it won’t turn on even with a fully charged battery
90% of my clips are shot and edited on IPhone… just sayin…

My friend has the film model and its kind of a pain I recommend getting the digital
My mom films me with her iPhone 6. She’s got a pop socket that says live, laugh, love that really helps with stabilizing the shots. She’s been putting clips up on Facebook of me skiing so my whole family can see.
Canon gl2 was my first Mini DV camera. Fairly cheap and reliable in my experience

cAnON GL2 SUkcS bRo just get a VX bRo
Bought a Sony hvr z7u last spring. I really like it so far, especially that fact that it can use compact flash cards so I don't have to deal with tapes any more

Fisheye follow would go crazy
lol everyone just posting up their own cams. depends what you're looking for, what kind of style you want
SD camcorders - vx, dvx, dadcams, etc
HD camcorders - hvx, hmc, etc
4k camcorders - hcx
dslrs - gh5, s1h, a7s, etc
cineflex - blackmagic, RED, etc
iphone even works on its own
i don't really know that many camera models of any of these categories. there are a lot more to choose from i just don't know what they are.
honestly you should just figure out what kind of style you like and then decide a camera category that you can get that with. each style of camera has its advantages and disadvantages and those aspects will control the ways you're able to film with it and the things you can do with the footage. but, it's hard to go wrong, at the end of the day making a video is not really as much about the camera as you would think. though there are people who will disagree.
maybe post some videos you like and want to emulate aspects of the appearance of the footage and people could give you better recommendations.

So first off, this is not me recommending you buy exactly what I have. My setup is perfect for me, but not everyone wants to shoot how I like to...
That being said...
I shoot a lot on the tripod (not pictured here) with my 70-200 as well as handheld on my Smallrig setup (Pictured below) with the 24-105 and fisheye. You don't need stabilization to make great video (hot take), although it does help. My lenses are as follows...
Canon 70-200 f/4 Non IS
Canon 24-105 f/4 IS Mark 1
Canon 8-15 f/4 Fisheye
Recently acquired:
Zeiss Milvus 50 f/1.4
Audio is through a Zoom h5 with an XY-H6 capsule for fisheye and their stereo shotgun capsule for long lens and tripod work.
Yes I carry all of this out on hill everyday with me.
It's a much heavier setup than some sort of prosumer camcorder with a fisheye attachment in a bag, but I feel satisfied with the images I can get from this setup in any situation.
Also!
You can see I have a quick release plate on the Smallrig cage. FUN FACT! That's a cage for a 5d Mark iii, not an EOS R. What that does is allow me to put a thick quick release plate under the camera INSIDE of the cage so if I'm switching from photo to video, it's a quick snap and pull to get the camera out of the whole rig without taking everything off.
I also have a cheap ass monitor from ebay that uses sony batteries and shuts off below -10 or so out (Dont ask me how I know -.-).
I also also have a decent on camera light for night time fisheye missions that I havent used much in the last 24 months or so but that will change with Brighton night seshs this year.
For filming tow rope, I have a Blackrapid sport strap which clips to my entire cage so I can just sling it around on my hip to ride the rope in a moments notice.
Lastly, the cage itself has the tripod plate and rails permanently on there so I can slide in a monitor whenever or quick slide it onto the tripod at anytime as well.
Any questions? Feel free to ask or whatever. Kind of a scatterbrained post, but it's late and I'm on a deploy for work and kind of bored lol.
If I were to buy a new camera I would look into a black magic 6k.
But, my gh5 always worked great for me, its a great option for a decent budget $2-3k

It is a great cam. Just only so stable when doing follow on bumpy ass shit.
Sure, a Go-Pro on a stick would be easier, but one can do so much more with a cam like the low-end Canon I have.
I shoot the Real Laps with a wide Canon lens. (Not shown on my photo post.)
Here I am with an older HF-G30. Just for fun!.....................
Yup. I feel like I'm doing documenting with my Gopro & Insta360. Those are not for art or anything artistic or out of the ordinary / personal / etc stuff. Just easy to shoot with and very good in what they are meant for - going hard and getting the shot every time.

I cannot fucking wait to film with this thing this winter. Just as much as I can’t wait to ski. I’ve literally have been skiing dreams lately where I’m just filming the homies doing fisheye follows lol.
shoutout to @Chubz. for giving me an absolute DEAL on this whole setup, big time homie ❤️
Y'all making me jealous with ur cameras lol

Yea, I like to keep what I do simple. The Canon Vixia's are good for that.
I use manual mode, but set most things for automatic in that mode.
Camera will do way more stuff, than I even know how to use.
When I shoot Real Laps I use a wide lens, and no zoom.
Check this, my first time trying 4K. I also use zooming here. This example is where a Go-Pro won't go that I am aware of, but I don't know much.
Poke around this long video a bit. I like the sound I get with a cheap mic on the Canon.
