Does anyone on here that has Pivot 18s even go past a 15 din? Or do people just buy them since there more bomb proof than a 14? I get that the metal toe piece won't blow out as easy as the plastic one on the 14 but I just don't see a reason to get them unless you need more than a 15 din since the Pivot 15s also have a metal toe piece, is it just a style thing or are you guys actually rocking a 14 din?
P15s just came out, which is probably why some many have 18s. For a long time they were the only metal offering. That said, some bigger guys ride with their dins cranked to 13/14 in which case an 18 might offer more range if they decide to go up more

Makes sense, probably a bad idea to max out the 14s and ride a 14 din on em, but gah damn them heel peices feel so good when the penetrate...
I bought CAST the year pivot 15s were released and found 18s for way cheaper. But you are correct, I do not need an 18 din binding.
Also this op. Sometimes 18s are cheaper

Sam Anthamatten skis massive lines like a downhill racer over huge exposure. He refuses to use shifts, locked out tech toes don’t have the elasticity, and thus is on cast. Would not be surprised if he’s on 18s at 18 since a ski release could be fatal.
Reine barkered said for the more exposed fwt comps he cranks his pivots to 17 lmao

Lol yea there are *some* people who legit never want to pop out of a binding unless they are already tomahawking at mach10 but want elasticity. Then there’s the rest of us. I’m a din at 8 kind of guy myself happily on attacks, pivot 14/15, or sths just doing normal kind of cool to your average tourist kind of stuff

I don't 'need' 18s but I ride at 12 so just get whatever's cheaper. A pair of my 18's are around 1000 days in and still trucking though.
1000 days?! By my calculation - that’s 10 Seasons at a generous 100 days a season. Damn those are some old FKSes

Omg you don’t ride at 18 you pussy!! I never fall so I don’t care about release!! I need 18 just to handle my sick tricks!!
I usually ski at a 14 or 15 on my pivots but thats largely because I'm a fairly tall/heavy guy. I think most of the time people buy the 18's for the metal toe.

13 seasons, still function flawlessly
yep it is for the metal toe. plus, riding a 14 on pivot 14s is a lil sketch compared to riding a 14 on pivot 18s where that is simply middle of the range for that binding rather than maxed out

The whole maxing out a DIN range issue is a myth, just FYI. DIN is DIN on all modern bindings. If you weren't able to use it safely, it wouldn't be on there.

imho pretty much only 100% proffesional athletes needs the 18 but they are cool
Have you seen that scene in fast and furious where the rock looks out the hospital bed and sees an explosion so he flexed his broken arm and breaks the cast for said broken arm in half and then turns to his little girl and says, “daddy’s got to go to work” because he knew based on nothing more than shear instinct that the only possible cause to that explosion was his arch nemesis?
necessity ain’t got nothing to do with it bruh
