as a guy who's season ended a over week ago after a dec24-feb15 lockdown I feel glad another Canadian is in pain
Do they ever do summer skiing still or does this mean its all over for good till winter?
honestly didn’t see it coming i was so stocked for spring season this year since we didn’t have one last year. this week was looking promising with the snow to come. but was nice while it lasted. i wish less people travelled from abroad ! i guess til next year
blackcomb was on for summer park but who knows what this means now. Momentum is hopefully still on
sad times :(
Happy I was there today getting some bluebird late season pow. 1st tracks on khybers yeehaw.
Sucks, but at least it is just Whistler and not all hills in the province.
covid mesures sadly
CatdickBojanglesLockdown or lack of snow?
Sucks. Weird after everything that it's basically same time as last year.
NotaskibumThis is why you don't live in canada
Canada is starting to get as soft as the UK
donotreplycovid mesures sadly
weird... fuck gwan up there? another spike so they're just like fuck it we made our money we're done early?
i assume so spring break ended all tourists have left which is odd they closed around similar time last year. but im pretty sure we can still the pass refunded at this point

It was the government not vail who ordered the closure
indeed but with people visiting the province made $$$ through tourism and so on.. plus other mountains are still open for now . anyways i hope the rest of the province can enjoy the end of their season

This is the one time where America in ahead in the COVID crisis. Seems like the Canadian vaccine roll out is dog shit, hyped that America will most likely be back to normal by mid summer

Come to texas / utah, shit has been back to normal for months lol
Apparently theyre closed until the 19th but i wouldn't be surprised if the provincial government decides to extend the closure. Really hope grouse doesn't do the same
LMAOOO this guy just drove for 3 days from eastern Ontario only to find this
Sucks but it’s still kinda funny
Kind of glad I'm in Utah, where no one will care enough to shut down early.
that’s brutal. ugh i feel sorry but this is a part of why it closed people from ontario, quebec coming on vacation and "for the season" . You all are welcome when things get better but til then lets just stay home and get rid of this thing for once and all

Yeah, first thing I thought when I saw that it was closing was "Now these nutsacks know how it feels"
Literally skied Whistler on Sunday when it dumped. I figured Monday was gonna be one of the better days of the season with all the snowfall from Sunday, none of the wind, and bluebird skies. I didn't expect it to be the LAST day of the season.
Damn, I was hoping for a few more rides during April to round out the season. Just put on the spring wax too.
Canada paid for something around 9 doses per person of vaccines and can’t get them out anywhere near as fast as America it’s insane

prayers for all the whis homies.
Hope they give you some April-Maydays
Vail don’t care. If they could open back up Vail says, meh, nope. We can save money.
mikemacweird... fuck gwan up there? another spike so they're just like fuck it we made our money we're done early?
the provincial government did tell them to close, but you're not wrong. Spring skiing is less profitable and I'm pretty sure Whis has already made the bulk of their winter profits.

As a Canadian I can confirm that the roll out is indeed dog shit. My mom's a nurse in a hospice and she got vaccinated not that long ago.
Fucking stupid, only resort on the coast closed, they didn’t even try to restrict travel here. Mountain closed for one day too little for the epic coverage to kick in(conveniently). Also the third year in a row with no real spring park(second year closed and two seasons ago was the worst build in recent years due to the Canadian snowboard team).
It's because of the Jerrys that were coming from all over Canada, bringing covid and going out in the village getting employees infected - been one of the region's biggest outbreaks pretty much all season.
Sucks, I was saving edge card days for this spring and was pumped for spring park and big springtime tours. But looks like all the locals are staying open for now and Seymour and Grouse's parks are both super fun so it's all gucci.
Wouldn't be surprised if snow sticks around the locals into July this year - been a good season regardless of covid trying to dork the vibe.

Easy to point the finger at people coming from out of town. But most people coming from Vancouver have been just driving up for the day, wearing their masks, and not hanging around in the village at all. What about the locals who have been partying? Wasn't there an increase in cases after Australia Day? I'm just saying it's more than just one group of people.
As a person who lives in Europe, where the ski resorts have been shut since the start of the season, may I say to the sad skiers of whistler blackcomb, you've had 4 months of skiing when most other resorts around the world are shut down, and many of the businesses that depend on these resorts being open will most likely shut down as a result! Three weeks of crap spring skiing in April is no real loss in comparison to what many other ski resorts and the communities that depend on them are going through due to coronavirus.

Idk yall should just be mad at y'all's government that thinks a distanced outdoor activity is unsafe
The situation and numbers isn’t even comparable from europe to here. I get that they closed this it to stop not essential travel and all . But let me say , when your community put in the efforts to have the resort open for the full season. Meanwhile i see surrounding resorts still open where they have higher or same number for covid as we do. And trust me it is so tempting to go there and to get in few days, but i guess as a good citizen i’ll stay home and put my season to an end

Rrvelstoke just closed today. Was up yesterday and a friend from guest services was in a patrol jacket because they had no staff. Fingers crossed it opens in the next couple days.

I get your frustration from not being able to ski this year but clearly you've never been to whistler during the spring time if you're calling it crappy.

Just wrong, admittedly locals have been partying still(eagle drive seems to be unstoppable), but the majority of locals I know have been sticking in their groups and being safe. I live in a complex with a lot of airbnbs and the amount of groups from the island and the city just up for casual weekends is crazy. Several families/couples in the same condos that are just here to drink and none of them are wearing masks around. The belief that the majority of Vancouverites are being responsible is just false.

I’m sure it’s a mix of everyone yeah. But I imagine it’s easier to keep up contact tracing with groups of party homies than all the people coming and going for vacations.
While a majority of skiers might be Van locals doing safe trips I can’t imagine that’s driving the outbreak either. It’s been the people staying in town.
Oh well. See y’all at Seymour!
it is a mix of everyone but parties here did happen when people had buddies from the city coming for the weekend or holidays and so on. they did mention that home mountains for vancouver should stick to cypress, grouse, seymour. Then again our town survives mostly off tourism i just wish it was more controlled this year. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see most resorts closing anytime soon. They will most likely be overloaded with crowds.
