This years x games was some peeeeeen. I think that within the next year svlsh could be the new xgames. its more personable, better test of who is a better skier (depending on the cup/ park) and theirs no stupid sponsors. Wendys doesn't own the knuckle huck and jeep ain't done a thing but throw money at xgame
totally agree man, slvsh is a much better way to decide the "best" skier. Where the x-games uses judges and their opinions slvsh simply decides on if you can do the trick or not, much more variety and skiing content, plus a good amount of the skiers in the x-games this year have been in slvsh too.
Replace? Probably not. But could it become something way better and bigger? I think so. if Slvsh can figure out a large-format competition (or set of competitions) they will have it made
Joss said SLVSH was broke and he doesn’t know what the future looks like when he was on Simon Dumont’s podcast
I’ve always thought that, because I hate how scores are “up to judges” and not a set number per trick, like in soccer, hockey, baseball, basketball, or football there no judges say that one team deserves more points because they feel like they had a better goal, they just say if you do it you get points( so they would have to go through every trick possible and give it a score bases on difficult and +,- points based on cleanliness of the landing) unless they do a point system like that they should do a head to head score system,
Why does it need to replace xgames? They're both different and there's plenty of room for both imo.

Ehh I disagree. Slvsh doesn't necessarily prove who's better because you can have two different skiers with totally different styles. Imagine a slvsh game of vinny vs magnus. Both of them can call stuff that is unique to their style that the other won't be able to do. And if slvsh is replacing xgames (hypothetically), you can bet that it'll get way more competitive and they'll be calling those obscure tricks.
Personally, I like watching slvsh way more than xgames, but I don't think slvsh is a good measure of who's the better skier.

why did he say it was broke? i'm very curious
stinky_cheesewhy did he say it was broke? i'm very curious
my guess is the lack of funding
He said they subsidized a bunch of smaller games in the idea that they would pay after the final game when sponsor money comes in, etc. Corona happened and they couldn’t get the money so they couldn’t pay people working on it.

I bet X game is going to introduce some variant of slvsh next year and treat it like some ground breaking new event. And if woodsy isn’t reffing I don’t wanna watch.

I couldn’t give less of a fuck about who wins x games or slvsh.
I don’t think slvsh has the wow factor x games has, on a standpoint regarding people watching who don’t ski or hardly do or don’t really understand what’s going on

literally watching 3 year old slvsh matches is now more entertaining than all of xgames. just kidding...sort of
Slvsh is only good because it’s chill and people aren’t doing everything they can to win. However a version of slvsh where a random trick is called and both guys have to do it would be a pretty good measure of how good a skier is.

Yeah u were speaking facts but at the same time u could never compare vinny vs magnus that's like comparing pow skis to park skis they just don't do the same thing. Every slvsh game has a different vibe some of them they are just skiing some times they are trying to get the other letters. Like you said u would need a third party that is even in trick calling
Can we get a rail event with a proper rail jam setup at xgames for once? I want to see some boys and girls throw down some extremely tech rail tricks because nobody can hate on pretzels. I don't even even want a run order. Just hike and drop at will like any classic rail jam.
I know Tom did steel city showdown which was super epic, but the whole scoring and proper run format kinda killed the vibe at bit. It felt like a formal competition instead of just having fun.

Yeah I definitely agree. Imagine how annoying it would be watching competitive Slvsh with two skiers who trained really hard on specific tricks that their opponents aren’t good at. It would just be whoever goes first wins.
I think you could modify it for competition though. You could release a set lineup of tricks vetted by the judges where skiers would know what they need to do when it comes to the day of. Then each trick you do it like regular Slvsh except the starting skier didn’t pick the trick. That way, it would still be pretty exciting because you still get the “ok he has to hit a triple cork here” but you also make it more fair. Would probably cater most to versatile smokers but I don’t think that’s necessarily bad.
