Does anyone know of a good place to find PVC for cheap? I’ve always bought from my local hardware store but it’s quite pricey. I’m interested in large diameter pieces.
Go around to any nearby construction sites and ask if they have any extra, often times they will and will most likely give it to you rather than throw it away.
Every big construction site will have some left somewhere. If you don't have any near you, try the construction waste management center (or whatever the term is for the place they bring their waste to). If you don't have a truck or a van, bring a saw in case you find one that's too big to fit your car. And also tarp cause they're dirty.
most houses come with pvc all you gotta do is cut it out. usually in the basement, but sometimes u gotta rip open your walls

imagine the losses the construction industry would suffer if everyone making one of these threads followed the advice in them.

I think most people ask instead of straight up steal it. Constructions sites usually have a lot of scraps so they likely have a few miscut pipes to spare.
i was lookin last night and ace hardware has 6 in diameter 10 ft length pieces for $40, it’s not nothing but that didn’t seem an absurd price to me

you need thick pvc walls. I got the same pipes from ace and the pipes broke super easily. The green or blue pipes are what you want
the ones i saw were green but i’ll keep that in mind cuz i was thinking of grabbing some if it ever fucking snows in chicago again... about how thick does the pipe need to be would u say?

I not exactly sure but like >1/8 inch shouldn’t crack to easy. I’m using 1/4 inch rn and I built a pretty big gap to rail hit at the end of last year and the pvc was super strong and held up well. So basically I’d say try to get quarter inch if you can but slightly thinner walls would work too probably. Construction sites will be your best bet for thick walled tubes.
right on thanks.

Do what I did.
1. Get a job at Ace Hardware
2. Work for 3 months and get employee discount
3. Buy PVC for like 3 bucks cheaper

I work in commercial construction, this is correct. If they’re throwing it out, they’ll just let you rummage through their scraps and you can take what you want

Have you kids heard of this internet site called craigslist?
My friend stole 3 massive pvc pipes right of someone’s lawn and the other stole one from an ice rink. Not saying it’s right but it’s definitely a way.
