I haven't skied in many moons, but my wife and teenage son are eager to give it a shot for their first time. I THINK I have it narrowed down to keystone. They seem like a hip spot for families. But I am open to suggestions. We air bnb so lodging usually isn't an issue. The big trip is being planned for christmas vacation (I KNOW, but I am a teacher so we go when I can go lol), however, I am considering a quick trip over after thanksgiving. (is it even open enough to be worth it then?) Also, essentially as adult beginners, is Keystone a good place to learn? Money isn't tight, but we don't have multi thousands to drop on one vacation in the vail/aspen type scene. I will be buying some sort of season pass for myself. We are from Kansas, (Jerry alert, are we better or worse than texas? Do I want to know?) so would like to stay in the central/eastern portion of Colorado. Any and all info is appreciated, I know its a lot to unpack......
Im an instructor in Michigan and have guests ask where to go all the time. I always recommend Keystone for the beginner families. They have a super long green run all the way from the top of the mountain so even those who are just starting out get that mountain top experience. Their is a ton more to explore once you get more comfortable. The base village is very walkable and family oriented. For a vail owned resort the lines don't get to bad.

this stokes me up so much dude, like if there's one benefit to the explosion of skiing through these multi pass offerings, its situations like this. I'm sure it will make for some lifetime memories going to CO from Kansas and who knows maybe your wife and kid will be fricken stoked on it. I really hope you follow through next season. Keystone is a great place to start as a beginner. If you're driving, especially around Christmas time, try to avoid driving up I70 from Denver during peak rush hour. It could potentially ruin your vacation sitting in 4 hours of good ol colorado ski traffic. If I were you, I'd get the whole family cheap Epic Local passes, and go for a few days and ski at Keystone, Breck, and then maybe Beaver Creek, and see what you like the most.

Yessir! That was kind of my thinking as well. We are coming up on a sunday and staying in the dillon/silverthorne area for the week. That way we are right there, so the I-70 traffic wont be an issue. I have heard/scene on youtube the absolute horror stories and wanted to avoid that as well lol. We have talked about Breck also, I could definitely see us trying a day there as well. The whole family is pumped dude. It's something I have wanted to do for a long time. We worked hard and we are now in a spot we can enjoy the fruits of that with vacations like this. I skied at Purg as a teenager and have never found a sport/hobby that has ever given me the same feeling. I cannot wait my dude....
Absolutely. Keystone is great. so much different type of skiing for all types of people. I really love the little "village" underneath as well. To reflect every one else, avoid driving down i70 on a weekend. arrive on a weekday so you dont deal with shitty traffic.
the Epic passes are a real bang for your buck if you plan on going more then 2 days in my opinion.
also if you and the family are looking for something to do after skiing, woodward at copper is off the walls fun
