r00kieThere are two types of ski instructors. The PSIA hard on's like you described, and those of us who maintain the minimum cert required to make some cash, ski for free, and get gear discounts.
Yeah freestyle instructors always seemed pretty chill and just glad to be skiing. The ski school people are the issue
Dude I get this. I'm a level two. And I only ski in that PSIA form when I'm teaching or in a clinic.
But it gets kinda of annoying. When everyone is trying to make every skier homogeneous. Humans are all different and every joint works different. I'm lucky that my little mountain is way more laid back then some others. There is a reason ski school is usually the bad guys in ski movies
sharpskiI don't know if it was mentioned, but ski instructors are about as worst as it gets sometimes. I spent a month in japan staying in a house with like 8 of them, with most of their friends being instructors. I have never heard such a group of people talk about the "cert levels" as much as them. Holy fuck did it get annoying, they carry themselves so high for people who cannot ski anything other than groomers, looking like a fucking robot. Now I'm not saying all are like that, but I really got a negative vibe from most of them, given the reason for this rant. They would constantly talk about the technical aspect of skiing and never shut up about how "sick" their black crow setup was. Some of them started a Carving challenge on instagram, now how sus is that? I would take them into the off-piste terrain and they'd ski like total a boner off drops, natural hits, ect. I don't understand why they see themselves at such a high level just because they can follow a standard. Niseko, japan, this goes out to you!Has anyone else noticed this before?

I wouldn't even say that. There are some pretty ski school people as well.
Young_pattyThis whole thread is just skiers hating on skiers lol.Personally types of skiers I hate are:
- Pete Koukov, like why tf are you in super unknown? You've had several pro movie parts and already ride for Line and Jiberish- gtfo and save the space for an actual unknown that deserves it.
I just wanted to highlight this part for a sec, I think pete is a sick skier with a different style to bring to the table. I know you mentioned him being kinda known but imo I think there are more unknown talent in the semi-finalist area that deserved the spot over him.
Douchey jerry dad
Runners up would be old ski instructor that was there from the 70s before they had terrain parks so he can take his lessins where ever he friggin wants
And doucher entitled i own the world ski racers/coaches
1. The “I used to be able to do all these tricks but now I can’t do anything because I got injured/old” guy. Like unless growing old/injuring yourself has made you physically disabled, you should still be able to do at least some tricks. It immediately makes me think that the person can’t do any tricks at all ( which is totally fine, just don’t try and lie about it ). Not that big of a deal, but for some reason really stamps on my balls.
2. The big time skinning guy who yells at you for bootpacking a skin track that leaves from the resort boundary. Just make a new skin track above/below ya friggin nerd.
dads who bring they small children into the park so they can side jump where in many mountains there is a perfecty good mini park with smaller jumps that are designed for kids
The kid that has nice gear and is always talking shit about your skiing but he cant even land a small park jump without sitting down. Not sure if anyone else has this issue but for me its frequently and its always one kid.
I dont like skiers who are assholes, it doesnt matter what you like to do on skis, just generally try not to be a dick
THE-Albino*I always love tossing flat 3s and backies in front of the 13 year olds that think their the shit on gs skis. Gotta keep em humble, however there was one time I forgot about the race skis and accidently went flat 5 and caught the tails kinda hard.
Yeah, that's how you get kids to join freestyle teams. I also forgot that I was wearing GS skis and did a 5 instead of 3 (regular bc I can't flat yet) and caught me off guard. I'm lucky I landed a tiny bit nose-heavy so I didn't catch. Damn, race skis can really catch you off guard in the park.
skier/snowboarder in their 20's who rides out of control in beginner terrain to hit side hits because they aren't good enough to hit the park jumps or off piste cliffs.
usually i just mob switch past them and tell them to get the fuck out of the way
SuspiciousFishBunny hill heroes are the fucking worst. They are always dressed as gapers and act like they are hot shit because they can ski in a barely controlled manner slightly faster than the rest of the beginners on the hill. Half the time they are drunk and are so close to wiping out kids and others just trying to learn. So many times I wanted to sucker one of them to the back bowls to smarten them up a bit.
skiitsbetterskier/snowboarder in their 20's who rides out of control in beginner terrain to hit side hits because they aren't good enough to hit the park jumps or off piste cliffs.
I feel personally attacked
Agree with everyone on park skiers that act cocky but then can't throw shit. Also have a problem with race parents that think they own the fucking hill. ive met some really cool race parents and then there are ones that are complete cocks
Idk, people who aren’t genuinely nice I guess? It’s not the type of “skier” it’s the kind of person you are. Doesn’t matter what you do, douchebags are douchebags. I feel like skiing has a lot more douchebags than any other sport tho.
but to add to the thread I can’t stand clique’d up “cool guys”. There’s definitely been some posts by big name people in the scene on here that makes me cringe super hard.
but at the same time this thread is sort of cringey, like who gives a fuck about other people just go ski. If you’re more worried about what other people are doing on the hill you’re doing it wrong
Anyone from west of the Mississippi. BANG BANG Shots fired
The kid racer parents and those snowboarders always hiking up the side of the trail building awful jumps.
Fucking academy kids , no Bryson, you do not own the hill because mom and daddy could send you to the academy . They all come in to the park at once and cut off everyone else .
All of the 10-12 year old Gould kids. They just come flying in on their race skis and then stand on top of the jump line for 5 minutes with their instructor on the knuckle who will yell at you if you drop before them. It takes like 10 minutes for all of the kids to go since they travel in packs of 15-20

pinkcamo1000The complainer dads. Here on the east coast if it isn't prefect packed pow groomers with 0 bumps, they will complain.
Out west if they aren't getting fresh tracks in blower pow every run, they will complain.
on the best day of the season at the loaf this year, I heard more complaining in the lift line than any other day of the year. And it's literally only men who do this, I have never once heard a woman loudly complain about conditions. It's cause they're all rich guys who are used to buying perfect experiences and when they can't pay Mother Nature to cooperate with them they get frustrated. It's sad and childish.
Whenever I ride the lift with these people, I just say "hey, any day on the mountain beats a day in the office." That always shuts them up pretty quickly.

Yes bro any one that skis Sunday River knows this pain, it never happens anywhere else I have been. Like all the CVA kids are chilling and have etiquette and Gould kids literally kill people like heat seeking missiles
Gatekeepers, in any area of skiing, but there are a lot of park kids that are toxic about this... they Shit on newcomers, throw shade for not having "the right setup", act holy cuz they're the best skier at their local, pisses me off, there are already enough barriers for people trying to get into skiing, newbs don't need assholes to beat them down after they spend near 1k on a ski setup and a pass
Texans, not because they are bad people or anything most of em are actually pretty nice but the way they crowd small mountains is kinda annoying. It feels like every year more and more Texans take up skiing
snowboard kids who think skiing is gay, and vice persa
this applys to all extreme sports, but anybody who won't try a sport because they will "break their neck"
kids at the hill that think they are better than you because their parents spent more money on them
and the worst of all, people who don't help out kids, especially when the kid is possibly hurt.
I think people that tour are super annoying. Like oh suddenly Black Diamond skis and tech bindings made you not a gaper, GTFO
Years ago when I was in Colorado. I was at a shop getting some gear. And this guy said ."if you don't have all your 270s on the rail. Nobody gives a shit about you". I think I said something like. "Good".. gatekeeping is bullshit. "You should have been here in 82". Motherfucker I was not born !

The mfs who are trash but shit on you are the worst, i was at a resort i dont usually go to and a kid was talking shit cuz i slammed doing a sw 2 but when i saw him ski he was on near death verge of slipping out on every rail and coming off after sliding 2 feet.

What exactly is so terrible about them? Genuine question, I sometimes browse TGR and don’t know what to make of most of the people on there.
the tryhards that try to flex when they go their own way and ditch the boys and then try to say they found the best patch of powder and that everyone missed out. So fucking annoying.

Lol anyone who does this was probably skiing groomers cause they're tired and didn't want to admit it

Just the real douchey dentist type guys. Most people over there are chill but some take it way to serious.

I don’t think there’s many dentist type skiers on here.

This is facts
CaseyI think people that tour are super annoying. Like oh suddenly Black Diamond skis and tech bindings made you not a gaper, GTFO
That’s like 70% of skiers this season dude. Touring is blowing up because of resorts moving to reservations and preference for passholders. That being said, the difference between a skier and a person who just happens to ski is huge. If you’re a skier, you get up in the morning and ski no matter what the temperature is, what the conditions are. If you’re a skier, you do it because you love to, you do it for yourself. If you’re a person who skis, you do it because you have the money, you do it because you think it’s a flex, you don’t know the written and unwritten rules of the mountain. BIG difference between someone who skis and a skier.
I don’t care who you are though, if you’re lucky enough to be able to ski, why complain? The barriers to entry this sport are getting higher and higher every year, and we’re all damn lucky to be able to participate in the greatest sport in the world. Don’t be a dick, call your drop, and just loosen up and have fun
DominatorJacquesI am a Poser old man ski bum. Give it to me straight.
lol no hate from me, if you are more than one of them it cancels out
Bened_notnillol no hate from me, if you are more than one of them it cancels out
Ha ha! Okay.
I will say at Bachelor, one does not wait for folks hanging out in a bro zone looking at a jump.
If they are not going........then you just go!
No need to wait for a bunch of people just looking!
Ski academy kids that pay a ridiculously large tuition a year just to swerve and not actually learn any tricks.
jerry

Honestly I think some of the most annoying people on the mountain are park people that act like hot stuff but are not as good as they think that they are, I have not run into to many people like this but on the rare occasion I have it always stinks.
JAHBRADOR1. The “I used to be able to do all these tricks but now I can’t do anything because I got injured/old” guy. You too will be old and injured one day my friend.
Bushdid9_11You too will be old and injured one day my friend.
Probably, but not a fucking pussy.
Once you can do a backflip, you can do one every year until you are old old. Look at Gaffney and Douglas, still doing at least 1 backflip/dspin7 per season and they are like 50 years old.
Dumpster-fire dirtbag "cocaine and head injury heros". Always so fucked up wasted and riding super recklessly. Always pissing off women and getting in fist fights with innocent bystanders.
Like really dude, can you go 1 week without fucking assaulting an actual child?
What gets me more is that he'll always have these fake-ass friends that cheer him on to do asanine shit even though they know he has a problem.
Figured I’d add to the list since season is right around the corners:
- kids who don’t bring shovels to the pre-season sesh
-ramp tramps, snow hoes or whatever you call em. If you ain’t there to actually ski then why bother?
- one-up claimers: they always gotta one up your stories/ claims but you’ve never actually seen proof??
- sober Sally’s: “bro do we really need to hit the smoke shack again?”
stfu yes we do, you ain’t gotta actually turn up but don’t ruin it for people who want to.
- elitist resort workers: I don’t care that you have your level 1 cert to teach 8 year olds stem Christie’s or if you think you’re badass cause you get paid minimum wage to blow snow 13 hours a day- I’m fine paying to ski so stfu about your awesome benefits and stop trying to tell me what I can’t do.
- “oh yah I know...” : I don’t care if you know lupe Haggerty, where the “best” pow stash is, the [insert corporate position of ski resort/brand] or even what next years armada topsheets will look like. I haven’t ever heard of you so who you know means jack shit to me cause you probably suck regardless.
Those crusty, jaded locals who never seem to stop complaining. Bitching about how the mountain is skiied off already, bitching how the report said 8" but it really seems like 6". Bitching about long lines on a powder day. You ride a chairlift with one of these guys and you realize that being a ski bum for the rest of your life isn't all that its chalked up to be. I thank them for helping me choose a new direction in life.
