Thoughts? What can America do to prevent shootings? This is becoming such a regular occurrence...
skiermanWaiting for you to man up and say to the victims family members that you would have saved them if only you were there to protect them.
Scott, I did lose a family member in the shooting in Vegas so you can go fuck yourself with these ignorant comments.
GrandThingsLol'd at the dude who thinks Bubba and Jimbo from Louisiana could take down THE US MILITARY with their shotguns, pistols and a few ARs.
Lol @ you thinking that all Americans have is shotguns, pistols, and AR's...
5 foot tall fucking starving rice farmers with outdated weapons beat the USA who had Napalm, Helo's, advanced comm's, etc.... you must not know very much about war
.frenchyBecause it was in front of a bar? And you can't carry and be drunk????
Its great to know Trump's supporters are as illiterate as he is.

Please, tell us how more guns would have prevented the shooting. Please tell us how banning access to useless modifiers like bump stocks would have done nothing to prevent this.

Did you not read a word I have said? Because I sure as hell didn’t say we need more guns, I didn’t say make more laws, there is no right or wrong answer to this. I just have stated to prepare yourself, you can’t foresee the future but given the right time and opportunity knowing how to use a gun can save a life. You don’t go out in the back country without the correct gear and training? Correct? I’m not saying, everyone go buy a gun and shoot away, there will always be the “what if” in every scenario. Having a gun during the Vegas shooting wouldn’t have done any good and we all know that. Being part of a family that did get that phone call that a family member was killed in a shooting is horrible and I don’t wish that on anyone, including you skierman. I’m just giving my 2 cents that maybe we should be prepared for a crazy situation, for instance an avalanche.

That's where you're wrong. There is a right and very basic answer to it which is legislation for gun ownership. Plane hijackings in the U.S. happened on a semi-regular basis in the U.S. ever since commercial flight was invented but once 9/11 happened, multiple pieces of legislation were passed to combat it. Guess what happened after this? Not a single plane hijacking has occurred in the U.S. The same can be said for Australia which took the same approach after their last mass shooting.
Planes are not banned in the U.S., are they? Guns are not outlawed in Australia, are they? Hmmm, it seems like a pretty fucking simple and straight-forward approach to me without eliminating the 2nd Amendment.
Just about everyone has been affected by a mass shooting or general gun violence at this point. You don't own this issue because you've been personally affected by something that we all have been affected by. How about contributing to solutions other than, "arm yourselves"? More guns has never and will never be the solution. No wonder other countries look at us like we're fucking insane.

big difference between hijacking an airplane and shooting a gun in public

You do prove a very good point and I 100% agree. And I don’t claim anything, I’m just a privileged person because I woke up this morning and able to move air. I know we have issues here in the states and things do need to change, starting with our president. Australia does allow guns by the way, just need to register them and prove they are for recreational use. Gotta kill those Roos when they are eating farmers crops.
.frenchybig difference between hijacking an airplane and shooting a gun in public
True, laws and regulations make it way harder to hijack an airplane than shoot a gun in public. I wish we could make it just as hard to shoot a gun in public as it is to hijack an airplane, but apparently, that's just me.

Its incredible to me how defensive self proclaimed responsible gun owners are. People who react this irrationally are most likely the insane assholes who know they'll lose access to firearms because of common sense gun regulations. Everyone I know including myself will not be affected. Maybe frenchie is one of those who you should be concerned about along with those who use no evidence or rationale whatsoever to explain themselves... just a thought....

There's no evidence of NRA members having a higher likelihood of becoming a mass shooter however the NRA organization has spent tens of millions in lobbying to prevent common sense gun regulations in order to protect gun manufacturers' sales..... just a thought...

Hey shit for brains, putting the words “common sense” in front of something doesn’t actually make it common sense. What is common sense is that if you want someone to agree with you, don’t insult them or mock them. That said it’s also common sense not spend all day being a troll on a ski forum, but I guess you don’t have a lot of common sense do you.

This, "common sense" is not only a buzzword but a fallacy. Just because something seems reasonable to the masses does NOT mean it is the best solution to a problem. Owning slaves, putting people in slums/concentration camps, segregating places by race, monarchies, medieval torture, public beheadings, etc. were all once considered "common sense". Truth is often stranger than fiction, and so is human nature.

not literally tho, i have amazing muzzle awareness and trigger discipline. :)
.frenchynot literally tho, i have amazing muzzle awareness and trigger discipline. :)
Hell yeah. I get muzzle swept all the time at my range by dudes showing off their pistols... makes me so nervous. Some gun folks act like they've never held a firearm before, I swear. Kinda pisses me off.
Can't find perfect sollution, do absolutely nothing but deflect and get pissy. Act shocked when problem doesn't magically go away on it's own.
There are the people with guns that are reasonable, then the people who 5 seconds after any gun related tradegy start blasting facebook with 2nd amendment this, don't tread on me, come and take em even before being provoked.
The more I hear that side speak, the less I care about the 2nd amendment. I'm from a small ass town in the woods. Heavy gun culture. Plenty of quiet folks hunting for a living and not making a seen. Also plenty of gun nuts in everyones face about it. The look at me with my guns people, the concealed carry or just pistols shown off in bars when drinking, or other guns outside etc are the in your face people.
Maybe the laws shouldn't be about gun control, but ban people from talking about, posting about, sharing pictures of their guns. I bet 1/3 of the heavy gun nuts would lose interest from the start if all that owning a gun meant was owning a gun.
We'll never do anything to try and solve this issue, well never do anything progressive with healthcare/education, same with plenty of other issues.
"America is always right, what was done 100 years ago is always better, and I'll be damned if I let some liberal city folk teachin lady try and tell me and my family different!"
I'm Australian and looking in on the US things look worse than dire. Mental health and health care in general is something that should be in the works anyway. I think tightening up Gun legislation is the only way. And to the argument regarding knife crime and other non-firearm related homicides, the US has a homicide rate of 5.3/100,000 where Australia's is 0.8/100000. Yes knife crime makes up a higher percentage of that number, but as a rate it's still lower.
I never thought I'd say I agree with skieerman but here we are. I could say that I see the beauty in keeping an elephant locked up in my basement as a hobby, doesn't make it right. This is a shitty analogy, but I think that you get the point. If some people aren't able to partake in their favourite hobby to save 10's of thousands of lives, I'd make that sacrifice.

The 2nd amendment literally says the militia is well regulated you fucking idiot
SkiBum.That one seems to be just a crazyThe Texas one is obvious trump supporter carrying out hate crimes. Surprised he didn’t have a maga hat on during the shooting.
The Dayton shooter was also a leftist who supported Bernie Sanders, the fake Indian whose name I forgot and sleepy Joe. Both were fucked up mentally, just because the El Paso shooter was a Trump supporter doesn’t mean that he is exempt from the mental health factor, if anyone has the audacity to carry out a hate crime like that, they have mental issues.
LonelyI can't think of a time that a good guy civilian with and AR stopped a bad guy with an AR.
A few years ago in Texas, that church shooting. As the shooter left the church some civilian with an AR15 shot and killed him. The guy who stopped it was too late though, the shooter was already finished killing.
CLQThe 2nd amendment literally says the militia is well regulated you fucking idiot

I just figured that being a Trump supporter automatically meant you had a mental illness.

Learn what a prefatory clause is please.

Ignorant liberalism is a mental illness not supporting a person
I’m also a middle of the road liberal with probably more guns and “assault rifles” then most talking here about their hard on for guns. And I think buying a gun should be like getting a drivers license. Take test, get background check, register gun, get license. Not all the different from a CCW permit.

Great point.
America won justified wars (not sure Revolutionary counts but we'll say it does) when it was completely de militarized and the fighting force came from people with zero military background.
Its pathetic honestly that people are dumb enough to support full on militarization in 2019 when there is no threat of invasion what so ever and to waste all this money on it. If you think the USA needs that you have no respect for it and don't think an army can be raised quickly to respond to whatever might pose a threat like was done in 1942.
Getting rid of the draft was a huge mistake now no one questions the military bc they aren't gonna get drafted. We all stand for the anthem like bitches. More people need to sit/kneel.
Tax billionaires on their wealth not income and stop wasting so much money on the fucking military and our problems will be solved very quickly.
