Hey guys, my mount just built some kickers and I'm thinking about sending my first backie there. Should I do it on the kickers or on a natural jump?
I tried my firsts on a smaller park jump.
Here of the following things you should and
shouldn’t do:
1 - Don’t bail out in the middle of the flip or else everyone’s worst fears come true.
2 - Make sure you throw it back and up, not just up like a trampoline backie, or else #1 happens.
3 - Throw it hard if you’re on a small jump and make sure to tuck.
4- Don’t be scared of it because the worst that can happen is just a hard landing.

This is really the result I'm going for, how do I get these results?

Find the biggest jump you can, bail out when you’re upside down then break your neck

if you can do backies then you should know it can be intimidating to try at first
if you can't do backies get the fuck out of here with your sour grapes bullshit haha
best trick ever invented, it's worth discussing over and over. OP, i def enjoyed doing my first one on a woods jump with soft snow but if the park is soft and you like a certain kicker that's great too. just remember to POP and it's all in the hips, it's all in the hips
I haven't done one in like 5 years but I learned into what we call pow here in the Midwest. It was off of a kicker with a steep lip that we threw together off the side of a groomer. Personally I found that way less intimidating than the soft snow at the park. Also I personally get more scared due to the park jump looking so much larger due to the landing they have to build. Even though you might get similar air off of the jump you make, it just looks less spooky dooky.
Gl. I'd like to learn to flip again but I've skied only a few times this and last year and I quit skiing for 4 or five years before that. This thread makes me want to try though...
skiguy04Lol I’ve done double backie
Lmfao I’ve done quintuple backie
Hahahah hahaha you look like such a gaper - stick to moguls dawg
SharkoLmfao I’ve done quintuple backie
Nice try bud I just made my first attempt and ended up getting 12 rotations around. Get good

Tampax is kinda pussy shit, hoping to pick up maxie pads
Word it’s all about dat heavy flow and wide set vaginas
I have never seen someone get hurt by overcommitting on their first backie. just commit and you will be fine

There you go even in the moguls
IdahoeI have never seen someone get hurt by overcommitting on their first backie. just commit and you will be fine
Pretty much this. If you don't fully commit you're more likely to get hurt.
Small park jump is the best option. Even sometimes a hip can be good if you deck out on it. Easy to get chest+ height, steep takeoff, and you'll land flat but if you don't stomp it you'll just fall over rather than have forward momentum.
Make sure you commit, go straight back. Most people come pretty close to landing their first ones so if you send it right, the odds are ever in your favor :)
Also vid or it didn't happen.

Duodecuple backie!

How about posting on an already existing thread.... I’m gonna have to ask you to post your claim where original claim was posted, that would be great, mmmkay? Thanks

Haven't been to my local mountain since I've made the thread, planning on bucking it this weekend if it's not icy

Nah, just If the landings ice. I'm really hyped on sending it
Your first backie should be off a diving board IMO. Find a local YMCA with a pool with diving boards and go with your buddies. Hit the board a few times just doing a straight air until you feel comfortable keeping your eyes up and really jumping up and out. Then practice the backward rotation until you get it to muscle memory and throwing gainers feels like second nature. When you get to the snow your body will already know what to do, just set the rotation a little harder to account for your skis. As others have mentioned, its all in your hips. You want a solid pop then push your hips forward over your head and keep looking up to spot your landing as you come around.

I can gainer and backie, I've just been a pussy about huckin it on snow. I was big on trampoline flips for a while so I can dub back and triple full on tramp

Nice man, good for you for putting in the work. Personally, I would build or find a booter to throw it in powder instead of the park.

Yeah that’s way less effort. I’ll just post it on the abortionator’s thread
Hands down the easiest trick you can do on a steep jump. Pop backward, arch back and suck up your legs when you see the landing. Literally easier than doing an upright 3.

exactly, i don't get to ski much these days and i'll still send backies first hit no problem, while 3s i'm a little more nervous about
people aren't joking when they say once you learn it it's very easy. best trick ever, just scary to try at first. over rotating is way better than under-rotating though, remember that
SuspiciousFishNice man, good for you for putting in the work. Personally, I would build or find a booter to throw it in powder instead of the park.
Sometimes but a lot of times people end up throwing them off the shittiest jumps for a few inches of pow. A better jump over a little bit of powder. I mean if it's deep who cares, land however and it doesn't matter. I honestly haven't seen too many bad fails on people throwing their first flips, and those ones were 99% of the time a commitment issue. Sometimes people who had never thrown a flip on anything.
Also if the jumps super shitty it makes it harder to do the trick in the first place. Sure the landings softer if you eat shit, but you're more likely to eat shit. Something like a windlip or steep back with a smooth takeoff into some pow is ideal, but a lot of people will struggle to find one at their home mountain, or anything similar will have those death rollers in the takeoff which throws off the trick.
There are plenty of shitty jumps in parks too, so it's all judgement. But almost all the first flips I've seen in the park have come super close or stomped the first one. Most of the time landed within 3.
I don't want to say that pow is overrated. But for this I feel it kind of is. If you can do it on a tramp, diving board, the ground, skate 3, etc you can do it in the park. Most people get scared, say fuck it send the damn thing, almost land it, land it next try, and wonder why they were a pussy all those years.
IdahoeI have never seen someone get hurt by overcommitting on their first backie. just commit and you will be fine
This is the best advice I’ve heard
I don't think it really matters if you do it on a park jump or not, just fully commit your first one and once you land one, you will want to do them off everything. Definitely one of my favorite tricks.
You won’t know what commitment to a backflip fells like until you know what not committing feels like

You have no idea how easy this is about to be for you. I'm dead serious. Just send it. I was in your position with all the gainer/tramp skills and was so fucking scared to throw it on snow for fear of it somehow being wildly different and me wrecking myself.
This is how my first try went many many years ago:
Was later asking myself why the hell I waited so long to do it.

you good chief, now go and huck
DemillstaAlso you think this is a big enough jump to do it on?
yeah, but i might go a tiny bit faster (tough to tell with the slow mo video). that's a good setup generally though-- nice big mellow landing
remember, POP and it's all in the hips. you got this dog, don't build it up in your head, there are little girls who can backflip. also id say better to over rotate than under rotate so POP and send baby. i bet you at least bring it to your feet somewhat first try
DemillstaAlso you think this is a big enough jump to do it on?
Yup, now send it! Post the vid after
