What a disaster.
That's awful. Bar down. Sit back please.
Never been to blue mountain but what's the culture like up there? Only asking cuz they seem to have a higher incidence of fatalities past few years versus other similar sized and similar terrain resorts that have deaths much less often.
Terrible.
I have a six year old daughter who I watched fall off a lift with her ski instructor sitting next to her. Thank fucking god they were only about 6 six feet off the ground at that point. The lift is the scariest part of skiing with a kid...by far.

Gaper culture. No good skiers around there.
QuaffGaper culture. No good skiers around there.
Only cause I don’t ski there.
The real tragedy is that I wasn't around to watch it. One less gaper in the world.

Damn. What a shame. Sending good vibes to his family.
Anyone know how far the fall was? Too lazy to read the article.

Doesn't say. But it doesn't need to be huge, just hitting the wrong rock or whatever at the wrong angle is all it takes.

Oh yea. And I'm not familiar with Blue Mountain but it's in PA so it's probably safe to assume that the snow is hard as a rock as well.

i think it said on Unofficial Networks (the PEAK of journalistic excellence) that it was a 37 foot fall
One thing I find interesting with the US is that resorts seem to try to do everything they can to avoid being sued, and yet don't enforce putting the bar down on chairlifts.

Without resorting to expensive automatic safety bar retrofits there is no way to effectively enforce this.
Lifties don't get paid enough to care about it, and they can only see it as it leaves the drive and approaches the return, when the bar should be up anyway.

Honestly just hitting the ground. Even best case scenario groomed runs that most lifts run over are pretty fucking hard. Even legitimate packed powder. Ad some east coast ice in there. You really don't have to fall from far for it to be a bad time.
Most people roofs are that point where you think "It's close af to the ground I would def jump here sometime".
On the one hand I hope they never implement ridiculous safety features like seatbelts etc, but I also hope people stop falling off lifts. Not even hating, shit happens. A good day can turn ultra shitty if you're not paying attention. RIP

It works well in Europe though.

idk man I think it's more of a cultural thing, from what I've heard everyone puts the bar down everywhere except north america

Sorry, what works well? The enforcement?

It's just in the culture, everyone puts the bar down in Europe. If you don't and a lifty sees you they'll tell you to put the bar down, it's a pretty simple thing. I'm sorry but I see zero benefit to not putting the bar down. The bar is safer and lets you rest your legs/arms, it's one of those no brainer decisions.

You're assuming my opinion on the matter, my post was just explaining why it is difficult to enforce.
I agree with you anyway.

This was my home mountain before I sold out to Vail. I will ride there once or twice a year; although, probably not this year.
They have a decent core culture for the East, but I was thrown when I saw the stats too.
I think the big reason is that they have a larger pool of riders with a wider range of ability, being the largest/closest resort for all of NJ, southern NY, and East PA.
Sucks to hear - RIP Connor.
AbiHMan, you suck.
"Member Since: June 2018"
and you're a fucking n00b. Your opinion is almost as worthless as a safety bar on chairlifts for gapers.

Being a n00b who takes a forum post seriously is pretty damned shameful. I would highly suggest reconsidering your life choices.

What's shameful is trying so damn hard, dude. Half your posts are to tell everyone how much of an NS OG you are by calling out their join date in order to bring attention to yours, the other half is insults/trolls to try and maintain your precious NS rep. Seriously, just look at your sig, you care so damn much.
Yeah, you're badass, you're the NS king, you roast people. Ok tough guy, no one fucking cares except for you.
5% of your posts are funny tho, just too bad the rest is garbage.

It doesn't matter whether the post was made as a joke or not. I mean, of course it was. But the kid just died falling from a lift. Its just really pretty lame to joke about.

I feel like you need to get laid or finally tell your family you are gay. Something is clearly bothering you way deep down.

You're trying too hard. Is there ever a line you won't cross?

jesus dude, are you that fucked up that you're still making fun of people for being gay?
I'm so sorry for his family. Sending all my love.
Rip in peace bud
Another girl died.
Jumoed off the lift and hit a rock. Shitty situation. Friend jumped before her and was fine. Girl hit a rock.

Yes. If you don't put the bar down within the first ten or twenty feet of the ride, the liftie stops the lift and tells (yells..) you to put the bar down. Actually I think it happened in one episode of Travelling Circus when they're in Australia.
Doesn't mean accidents like the one above don't happen. It actually happened in France a couple years ago and a kid died the same way. The next season they had an automatic bar installed on that chairlift.
skiermanjesus dude, are you that fucked up that you're still making fun of people for being gay?
No no, im making fun of the fact thay you crave so much attention it must he caused by a deep inner conflict auch as, hidden homosexuality or the fact that you cant get a girl to look at you. Everybody fucks funny to somebody. Remember that. Im cool with you being gay.

Yikes.. I know people jump off the lift now and then and are fine, but I wonder if that Jerry of the day insta post inspired some extra people to jump this week. It got a couple million views on like, wednesday.

I've jumped off lifts a couple times for sure. Buddy landed on a stump once....odd to think it's that easy to go
skiermanBrah, keep digging that hole. Its seriously not cool to make fun of someone for being gay.
Okay you are right, I wont make fun of you for that. But your mountain bike videos.... LOL. You riding a bike or your brakes BRAH????

"I'm an insecure pussy that makes fun of gay people and someone using their brakes while riding down a 70 degree chute"
You're like so legit, bro brah.
I only put the bar down, when a big gust of wind blows the chair a ton. I don’t care if other people put it down.
For those people who put the bar down 1 second after i get on the lift and don’t say anything about the bar coming down, screw you.
Been in tahoe these past few days, and i think i have riden two chairs with the bar up. Almost everyone here puts the bar down and informs people that the bar is coming down.
The real question here: Is skierman actually gay, but in the closet and channeling his frustration into hate filled toll posts? #conspiracy2019
