We're not gonna have skiing in the northeast for that much longer... there will always be some, but cts gonna die, then ma, then southern vt... sucks that our kids won't be able to ski the same places we did, and that we are gonna watch so many of our favorite mountains get bought out, then die off. The west is fucked too, looked what happened to CO and UT last season. Fuck trump, guess I gotta move to alaska
I will be doing penta corks on mars before you know it
It's prob gonna be our kids' kids that are have that issue. For us and our kids, jut gonna be absolute shit winters. But yes, sucks a bunch. We are already seeing issues.
It was sunny yesterday and it rained a bit today but its sunny again.
I hope I live long enough to see climate change deniers become second class citizens
The referenced post has been removed.
Yeah, how its implemented now is shit, but I dream of a time when the rates are so expensive that its more cost effective for companies to just make their shit more effeciently
I work in the arctic and antarctica and yea I'm fuckin terrified.
If you're not worried, you're a fucking idiot.
skiermanIf you're not worried, you're a fucking idiot.
Oh fuck. This moment in NS history where should I say agree with skierman.
Invest in global warming, invest in vail/alterra
not too worried
I'll just pick up a new hobby
Been getting into biking recently anyway
U mad bro???
Good thing Minnesota has some pretty large grass hills for me to start skiing on in 2050
Yes of course but you also can't blame one bad snow year for climate change. It is the yearly trend that is worrying
Lets just build a huge ass winch and pull that pluto guy over here, it'll cool us down. Maybe there are some good street spots
hey man, hawaii might turn into a snowed out island. Whats not to be stoked about?

You are a liberal pussy cunt if you believe in the fugazzi of climate change.
McNocheYou are a liberal pussy cunt if you believe in the fugazzi of climate change.
Well, there is climate change, then there is global warming.... two different argument topics for ignorant shits to argue about. Climate change is always happening be cause well... we have an atmosphere.... global warming can be more deliberately debated in a more hilarious manner. Just sayin....
But all in all, I need more snow.

Undeniably its having an effect. The one good thing is that what's causing it is consumption of a limited resource. Eventually oil runs dry and renewable energy like solar and to some degree nuclear will begin to take over the scene due to the rising cost of oil and coal

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills.
I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words.
You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands.
Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue.
But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it.
You’re fucking dead, kiddo.
Obviously it's a problem and I recognize the importance of spreading the message, but some of the things I see from those more active in this debate, including pro skiers, is laughable. Those who point out Utah not having as much snow on april 13th of 2018 compared to 2012 are of the same intelligence as the senator who made a snowball a few februarys ago and tossed it to the senate president therefore proving global warming to be a communist hoax.

cheeto_dustPeople like you are why newschoolers is dead
People like him leaving are the reason why NS is dead. Anytime anyone says anything on this site it's always "this is why NS is dying". Even if that copy is a little overdone
Im this point I stopped giving a fuck. Politicians live in warm climates, play golf as a sport, the biggest forest they been to is Central Park, NYC and never been in the middle of a storm before. They are cozy and safe in their houses payed by lobbyist and funded by their business handed down to them by their parents. The most science they have done is dilute water with water. They are more interested in the traffic from home to work.
For those who spend their time outdoors, where their church is remote mountain ranges; we see the changes in climate. I begin to notice way back in the 90's, where winters would start much later and end much earlier. I would track the first snowfall and the days where it dropped below -30C. When I decided that I wanted to be a professional ski bum, the first thing I learnt was meteorology and weather patterns to predict and travel to snow covered areas to get the best skiing possible out east. I taught myself how to read weather maps and make my own predictions. Those who have tracked weather and kept a log have seen a warming trend. In 2010, Quebec City received 75cm total annual, It was time to pack it up and leave the east in search for better snow.
Im not going to argue with FOX news fanatics. There is not point. I lost faith in humanity decades ago. We are all going to die one day and there is nothing one person can do to change anything. In the end, nothing matters. Im just going to enjoy what we got now, leave nothing but footprints and happy memories to the time I die.
I'm not worried about our generation. Yes the quality of seasons over the course of 30 years will continue to go down, but there will still be epic days of pow and Apres and spring skiing and everything in between.
I'm more worried about the kids of the next generation not being able to experience the sport like we did. Skiing isn't one of those things you can explain via words or even in movies, you have to experience it first hand. If skiing stays as expensive as it is, and the smaller mountains cant sustain through warmer winters, less and less new / young people will be introduced.
Still gonna send it this winter & every winter though.
Global cooling!!

liammorrisGlobal cooling!! my lifestyle hasn't changed all that much from my great grandpa's so to say i'm the cause of "global warming" and "climate change" is bs. One fuckin Volcano hiccup releases more carbon into the atmos than all of human history combined. Y'all better believe that global warming is a fuckin tax scam & your hard earned money is going to pay for it. Don't get me wrong I think over population in some places is a big problem and so is pollution but not fuckin global warming.
Serious question for you guys: what makes you trust the anti-climate change folks more than scientists?
Do you also not trust doctors and engineers? I'm curious where you draw the line
DIRTYBUBBLEI hope I live long enough to see climate change deniers become second class citizens
Amen
honestly i love skiing but the disastrous weather events we are seeing are a bit more concerning to me than the possibility of not having skiing in 75 years. many many people are going to die
I think about this a LOT and wonder what it means for the future of skiing.
I really want to see some data and meaningful projections on just how numbered skiing's days are for the midwest and the east coast. Just in the last 10 years it feels like I've seen a massive change. I can remember my local Indiana hill having a rail garden set up on Thanksgiving Weekend, and shredding with my friends until none of us could stand straight.
Nowadays it seems like at least the last 3 seasons have started like mid December, early December if we got really lucky. And even then it felt like it fucking rained on and off for most of the season. I genuinely can't tell if it's just me being more in tune with the weather, or if this is a legitimate trend that I'm seeing. There were always good seasons and bad seasons, but it seems like the really bad lame seasons are getting more and more frequent.
I also wonder what areas will be hit first and hardest by climate change, and if any areas will actually benefit. I wonder if some of the more northern areas will see an increase in precipitation, without it actually getting warm enough to hurt the season.
One thing is for sure – I definitely FEEL like I've been seeing a significant downward trend at my local hill over the last 15 or so years. Every subsequent season feels bleaker and bleaker. Not sure if it's me or not. Wonder how much dirt I'll see under the chair this year.
cheeto_dustPeople like you are why newschoolers is dead
People like me are why NS was ever good
Ever heard of EBI??
Learn your history kiddo
We are so fucked with this that honestly there’s very little point to think about it very much. We are literally past the worse case scenario in every measure. You guys worry about if we’re going to have skiing in 75 years? I’m more worried we will have fucked up the earth so bad that we won’t be able to grow enough food for humanity to survive. Add to that number of bee deaths, our over population issue, and consumption issues.
The only way to have solved this is if we made large scale cold fusion power work like ten years ago, or implemented large scale carbon capture projects around the world. The only thing that could possibly save us now is some form of nanomachine based terraforming ( and we are hundreds of years away from that). Until then I just keep skiing as much as I can and feel sad that humanity will eventually destroy itself because of our own social constructs. Mold on the bread.
The movement is called climate change because golbal warming is an innacutate definition. Due to the fact that the average temapture of the the earth isint getting warmer.

Uhhhhhhhh but it is... Look up ocean temperature trends.
If you follow weather trends in history there are times of extreme drought but usually at the same time a small ice age type weather in some other part of the world. I'm not saying climate change/ global warming are not a real thing that we need to worry about. I'm mainly saying that we have been due for some weather change around the world. After this so called "permanent issue" we will probably have some of the best winters to come. I'm not saying we shouldn't be concerned for the time being because we should its a current issue but not permanent. Needless to say i'm pretty fucking scared about some of the winters to come round here in America, there might be a few "big" winters here and there but i"m still concerned.
For the time being we are fucked. As for future generations i'm not so sure.

It was just the generic 'fuck Trump' comment that made me laugh. The original post makes barely any sense, firstly goes off about losing snow in the north east, then goes off on a wild tangent and moans about mountains getting bought out, then blames Trump at the end lmao
Not sure what point you're trying to make by pulling that thread up but hey whatever

If you actually look at the time scales, you will quickly notice these global trend happen to occur over thousands, if not millions of years, not decades. There are other signs to notice. The jet stream is moving further away from its normal route in the last 100 years and peaking at latitudes much higher than average trends.
The jet stream is what determines where low pressures will form, move and dissipate. Changes in the course of the jet stream is dictated by polar temperatures and pressures and lower latitude pressure and temperature ( hot air creates high pressure, cold air induces low pressure) and the interaction of the 2 is where the jet stream passes. Other factors such as ocean temperatures, green house gas concentrations and darker particle concentration will influence the path of that atmospheric wind passage.
The average global temperature is rising. Its fact, just have to pour over the data to confirm it. 1 degree doesnt seem like much, but it has a huge influence how much humidity is stored in the atmosphere.
Ok take the 2018 winter. Why was it cooler and more precipitation occured in North America? La Nina pushed the jet stream south, letting the cold arctic air interact with southern coastal humid air, causing cold precipitation. Add to that the massif forest fires, blocking the solar radiation and there... a nice winter. The east had a colder than average winter due to the Chinooks; a southern path the jet stream takes due to lower atmospheric pressures in the south, allowing the cold arctic mass leak south and interacting with the Atlantic humid masses.
Climate change means that regional meteorology patterns will screw off average. For example, the BC interior used to be a rainforest (just notice the old growth forests) 100 years ago. Today, its looking more like a desert. Some area's geology will influence meteorology; think Vancouver. Its impossible to predict how these changes will affect regions, but geology will change due to weather average changes.
Nickc88Thank you, finally someone who sees the big picture.
No, you just want to agree with someone else with the same opinion. Its called confirmation bias.
We'll still have dryslopes though, not as good as snow but it's still skiing
