At big white today, hit an xl kicker for a switch back flip, stuck it second try and went for another one. Everything goes according to plan, but as I land and turn my head to see where I am going due to the fact I’m still backwards, my pole gets stuck in the snow at high speed and takes out three of my teeth. 18 stitches later, cucumber lips and eating out of a straw, still trying to put together a plan for implants. One of my teeth got glued back in but the others were either completely lost or broken. I will be ditching the poles for any big tricks in the future.
That's brutal dude. Good luck getting your grill repaired. Props on the switch backie though!
Thanks dude, I got set up with a pretty good dentist and a plastic surgeon to make sure everything is gonna go back to normal!
Sorry to hear it bro, but I’m genuinely curious were u using Nordic poles? Ur mouth is real high for park poles
Leave a couple bucks under you pillow for the tooth fairy. Not sure what the buy/sell is on teeth these days though.
I landed really compressed on a steep slope so my face was much lower than It usually would be. I was also using Salomon hacker poles which aren’t park poles by any means (44cm) but me being 6’1” they haven’t cause any problems until today.

ditching poles 4ever, i do this too many times but always hit my face and get off with a sore jaw.
ThomasH1-3 grand a tooth fuck me
Get a job sweeping the floor for a fight club.
But for reals thats fucked. Have health insurance/covered ?
Poles and knees scare me, def picking up a mouthguard. Hate the clunky ones that take up all that space and aren’t comfortable, but if it will save my teeth I’m game. With that in mind does anyone have recommendations for minimal ones or ones that just feel better while you’re skiing?

These are pretty cool: https://www.shockdoctor.com/flat-microfit-mouthguard
Or just go to page your local sporting goods store and get a moldable soccer style one. Boil it for a minute and pop that sucker in your mouth (as soon as you're able with out burning yourself too badly) bit down and hold for a bit. Might need to do it twice with some of them.
ThomasHInsurance should cover it, but I got in contact with my folks and they said they would cover my costs if necessary which is a huge relief.
That's dope. I need to get my shit all sorted. Had some medical bills that werent toop bad a couple months back. Just broke my collarbone again. Not going to get surgery but did go to er and have a follow up appt.
Put me out of of work so gotta call and figure out how to be insured and not poor af.
At least i know ill be living in this state for a few years.

Yo that shock doctor guard looks legit, not too huge but decent protection. Might have to try that out.

Wasn’t just referring to teeth here. A decent amount of my buddies have gotten a knee or pole to the chin/lower face and got concussions. Rather have something there to prevent that if I do smack my head on something.
The fucked part about teeth and skiing is that there is only so much you can do to prevent it. If it’s gonna happen it’s gonna happen. Not to mention it sounds a like a gun going off in your mouth.

if you keep it in your pocket/case when you aren't skiing/ hucking anything, clunky ones should be fine tbh.

Yo highly recommend this for a mouth guard. I used it for lacrosse last season and would be using it again this season if I didn't get another concussion from skiing. Seriously, started skiing with this guy after my concussion for a bit and never realize I have it in. I like the lower mouth guards better because they never fall out or get loose and you can still talk normally with them in. Plus with the same protection as a normal mouth guard its a no brainer. Plus 10 bucks is a for something this good is a pretty dumb deal.
PS, thats a link to the kids version. Peep around for the adult one, I just added the first link.

Where the pics of your ugly mug!! Don't give up on poles. Just makes you stronger!

Your teeth are still better off with one than without

I'm Canadian, but the whole US healthcare thing scares me, especially because I usually spend March break in VT. I don't have travel insurance, so if I fuck myself up I need to drive back to Beaver land to get treated

yeah you better have about three trillion shekels if you want to get anything treated down here. I'm great at not thinking about it while I ski, but I can't afford a major injury

I owe at least 12hundo to wait for ever without painkillers (would have smoked first at least)
For 2 xrays and another person i was supposed to follow up on to say word yeah come back in a couple weeks.
Alright fellas, got my loose tooth reset and splinted today, and I gotta have a bridge made in the meantime while I wait for my gums and jaw to heal up. After that I’m looking at either a set of veneers or implants. Trying to figure out how to post a pic of my mug haha

Back when I did park a lot more I would always stab myself in the ribs or bonk my chin. Pole are benfecial for turns but not for learning in the park.

Why not just get travel insurance? Its cheap in canada

I knocked out two teeth knuckling a zero with an op blunt (unspotted landing). I got implants because I didn't want to have to grind down 4 teeth just to fix two others.
1) Insurance only covers bridges so if you want implants thats gonna like 5000$ per tooth out of pocket.
2) Spot your landings
3) Wear a mouthguard (for concussion AND teeth)
I can relate, on my 7-9'th set of teeth, depending on how you count it.
Smileing part can suck pretty bad.
Good part is I can eat icecream like... well yeah fast.
I had a near miss with a pole once and skiied without them for a bit.
