Hey all, I'm heading to Whitewater for 3 days in mid-February with my buddy who's a snowboarder. Neither of us have been up there before so I'm just looking for any kind of insider information that we can use to help us get the most out of our trip. Thanks in advance
Explore summit and glory chair and all your powder dreams will come true. Show up at 6am for powdays or you'll be at the back of the line, everyone rips the blast first run, which is the showboating run under the summit chair line, unless your getting first tracks, don't do it, send it over to glory chair and get maybe an hour of the best tree skiing you've ever had all to your self before the rest of the mountain makes they're way over. It's a small mountain at first site but there's a lot of terrain to shred so explore it all.
if you tour there's amazing sidecountry, if the avalanche danger ever calms down. trash and faceplant are fun more pillow like runs.
Glory ridge chair didn't exist when I rode it you used to have to hitch hike back up. Picking up powderhounds was common place.
Good tree skiing a day or two after a big storm if you know where to look.
The recommendation for 6am is bullshit. Ain’t even that bad at Revy which is 7am. I worked on the mountain and 8am you’d be on first chair for pow days.

Yeah anyone showing up before the lifts open is wasting their time, the longest lift line I've experienced this year is sub 15 minutes. If you want tree skiing then both glory and summit have plenty, drop literally anywhere and you'll end up back the lift. Best cliffs n such are sleeper, and blast, unless you want to hike a bit, in that case you'll simply need to hike up the ridges on the south side of summit chair, avy danger is still nuts tho. Main thing is to get good pow after a storm you will have to traverse, the longer it's been since a storm the farther you will have to traverse. That being said there is always powder at whitewater if you care to find it.

I was at sunshine village last year and it was cloudy. WTF.
It sounds like avalanche danger and areas of the resort being closed due to it are a pretty regular occurrence. Should we expect to definitely have portions of the terrain be unaccessible every day that we're there??
Uhh, often in the morning if it snows 10cm+ overnight there are some areas closed while they do avalanche control... like almost every ski resort area in BC.

By 6am, he means show up at 9am. Glory side doesn't open till 9:15 and I usually show up around 9:05 and get 8th chair or so. Unless it's a weekend - in which case I try to get in line for 8:50am. Everything is good between Summit Chair and Glory Chair. If heading to shortsides (the 'out of bounds' area at the end of the ridge from Glory Chair) take the traverse instead of the bootpack. Beware of the gullies between backside bowl and the boundary line, they are kinda sweet if you get first tracks, but really though, they kinda suck.
If you have touring gear there's good stuff everywhere, but the snowpack is extremely complex this year so be careful and maybe get some local beta before heading out.

nah. powder keg and catch basin are closed when it's a pow day for avalanche control usually, but honestly, I only go left off the Summit Chair if I'm going touring. Right off Summit Chair and left off Glory Chair is the goods.
