I broke my tibia and fibula skiing on New Year’s Eve. Have just been bummed out and have been trying to keep interested in skiing by I can’t it’s killing me I can’t do the stuff I love. I woke up this morning with 5 inches of fresh pow outside my house and all my friends are going skiing and I’m just sitting here trying to watch ski edits but I can’t do it. It just bums me out even more. Doc said I can ski till next year. I don’t know what to do
I feel you man. I fucked up my back all the way from may last year and I havnt been able to walk for more than 5 minutes since then, let alone ski haha. after a while you'll get used to it and in the meantime strengthen your body so your all good for next year

Feel you bro I separated my AC joint and it sucks to see other people having fun but like just use it as motivation to get your physical therapy done and come back next year stronger and more prepared.

Ya bro how long you out
Sorry, man that is rough. The best thing you can do is to distract yourself. Pick up an instrument, start doing art, learn some new software, this is an opportunity to learn something new.
I'm in the same boat, dislocated my shoulder and I'm out for a few more weeks. I've been staying positive by realizing snow conditions have been shitty and I'm not sitting in i70 traffic.
I've always been a big fan of fat turns on groomers, but that kinda brought me back. I could barely ride for a couple seasons and had been out other than maybe 5 or 6 days for a couple seasons. Now I just want to rip some turns and take some mellow laps through the park, or get it if there's powder. Also gotten more into AT stuff.
Sometimes there will be a feature I'm feeling or the last 2 summers was riding a smaller park and would lap features all day and get super comfty. Started pulling out some decent tricks again.
Riding with friends and knocking back some beers is good too. I haven't been riding much this season but have gone like once a week. Going to start going more after work but fucked my neck and back up pretty good at work in a none riding thang.
Also going to start splitting up some mornings when I don't really want to ride, but just kind of want to hike. Bring a beer up, drink it up top then cruise down and bounce.
A lot of people go through phases, some people never have the passion they once had. Try some different things though. Rip some deep low turns on some groomers. That's what always sucks me back in.
everybody saying "op itll be better in the future" n im just sitting here in my seat, looking at the national global temperature trend n thinking how many days i can cram in each year before mankind nukes snow into extinct status

I’m sweating
Ski76Ya bro how long you out
I’m going to be able to start back up again in like 4-6 weeks but maybe sooner. Like I could technically ski right now I guess, with the sling on lol

Done with the rehab now going to start hitting the slopes as soon as there open but the issue is if i fall at all on my shoulder it’s basically a gaurentee ill fuck it up again so probably no more park for this guy but we’ll see how it pans out.

Just get out there and do you. Take it slow. If you end up in the park, get comfy again and wanna hit some bigger stuff, go for it. Be careful but have some fun.
If it's not worth the risk it's not worth the risk. Honestly fat turns on groomers and some tree pow is good enough for me.
I've had to slow down a bunch in the park. Too many fucking head injuries. Actually just broke my collarbone again in march. I do like the small medium parks though. Can hit all these small features, spin either way, switch reg whatever. Can either be a good stepping stone getting the muscle memory and confidence back for the big stuff, or just as something to hold you over on park stoke.
You can throw a trick on a 12' long feature that's sitting 4 inches out of the snow and ride away like you just stomped the longest handrail in the world. Just crank up the tunes a bit and have yourself a jol.

That's rough. Have never been in a situation like that, but I know a few people who have. It's gonna bum you out because you are not able to do the thing you love, but push through and you'll get there in the end.
Get a cheap used DSLR, drive to your local mountain and hike up to your local terrain park and photograph people hitting jumps/rails. Usually nobody will stop you unless you get in the way or are being an ass. That way you can still be up on the hill and check the vibe and improve your photography at the same time. I did this at Park City a while back and it was actually a lot of fun.
Try a few other sports for a few years. You will realize nothing compares and you'll be back

Im stoked you are back on the hill, kind of crazy to see this thread history go back a year. Im 30 now and have a 2 yr old and another on the way so I will probably only ski once or twice this year. Sometimes the break from skiing makes it that much more meaningful when your back on the slopes. I was able to hit up my home mountain at Schweitzer for a spring pow storm last year and hitting all the old runs flooded back tons of memories from my youth and what skiing has meant and done for me over the years. It was a weird moment standing on top of the jump line and looking at all the kids half my age standing next to me.
Try sit skiing? MA Belliveau has been shredding hard on those things

Exactly this. Took a loooong leave of absence from NS from 2011 – 2017 for college because I was real far away from the slopes. Pretty much only skied on winter break, and skipped a couple years because the weather was such a bummer. I kinda forgot about skiing for a while there, except for the odd trip now and then. Was just too immersed in college and extracurriculars.
Now that I'm graduated, I can ski a lot more. The love for the sport has come back full force, and I'm obsessed again like I was in high school. Now that I'm a bit older, I have way more fun just ripping groomers as fast as I can and popping off lil' hits.
That said I'm still looking to break out the backies and rodeos before I hit my 30's in a few years. Maybe learn some new stuff while I still have the chance. Maybe I'll break myself, maybe I won't. Who knows.
Your love for skiing may come and go in waves, but it never truly leaves.

Global warming would be scary if it was real
lord.steezusGlobal warming would be scary if it was real
It is real.
kk0710It is real.
Think about it. The concept of global warming is that the earths temperature is constantly rising. If this was true, then December, being the last month of the year, would also have to be the hottest month of the year get reckt libtards

Fuck yeah man!
Honestly sometimes it feels fucking good even on easier tricks or smaller features to just stomp some shit. And groomers never really get old if you can find some that aren't crowded and decent.
Stay healthy and have fun!

you seriously need to pull your head out of your ass before you embarrass yourself more.

Yeah, now I’m hooked again. Skiing will go away but truly never leave my mind

This shit is happening right before our eyes.

Relevant graph I made regarding temps in my hometown to see wether past seasons being better was just my imagination or a real thing.
Spoiler: it's not my imagination.
