Does anyone have any recommendations for an effective and somewhat cheapish Dad ski? I told my dad I'd help him pick out a new ski, and figured i should make a thread about it. My dad is an intermediate skier at best and doesnt require much, something wide enough for him to float above pow mellow pow fields, but also make good turns on groomers and what not. , I was thinking around 105 underfoot but am by no means picky, he isn't either. What do you guys think?
thanks! but those are like $600, my dad honeslty doesnt need that yet. He does not rip, I was looking at Blizzards. I still appriciate your response tho, and will look more into some cheaper solomons.
My dad has volkl 108s and loves them. Id also look at the k2 pinnacle 105, sick day 104, volkl mantra
Volkl RTM 84, it's not really going to float in powder but it's the quintessential dad cruising ski. I'd caution against going wide, sure, you can carve pretty well on a lot of ~105mm skis but it takes a pretty aggressive technique and style to really get good groomer performance out of wider skis. If your dad is anything like the "dads" that I see on the mountain they don't have the technique or inclination to ski at a high edge angle. If you pair that lackadaisical style with a wide ski it's just going to wash out constantly.
SklarSalomon QST 106 is the dad ski
id say it's the S7s. and armada JJs (sorry guys it's true)

Second the mantra, my dad loves them. Granted he used to race
+3 for Soul 7, Super 7 if he is a bigger guy 215lbs +
K2 pinnacle 105's are going for like 400 on evo right now
Would agree with above on the K2 Pinnacle line of either the 95 or 105. Nice ski that is not demanding at all to ski and even an intermediate skier could ski it easily. AsoGear has either one with Rossignol/Look SPX bindings with them for $449.99 with free shipping on last years version. This years version is slightly stiffer, so last years would actually be a better bet if he's a "mellow" skier.
rsvpRossi Soul 7's are the ultimate dad-ski lol
My dad reps em, the best ever tho was the dad ski nose butter in drink butter's always sunny at alta

Yeah it seems Line and Armada are some of the most popular dad skis. Other then Soul 7s.
Icelantic 95, there expensive but you can find last years model for cheap or look at the nomad 105.
You could check out the origin series from liberty. Not super aggressive and come in a variety of widths.

my dad demod blizzards and killed it with them. he bought a pair this year now
I would maybe say stick to the 95ish range?? Next years Blizzard Rustler 9 looks pretty sweet, my only complaint about the Rustler 10 was that it didn't hook up on groomers as well as I expected, but that will most likely not be an issue with the 9. Other than that, I know a couple dads that love cruising on the QST 99.
