So I was at the Toronto Ski Show, and saw some ridiculously expensive, and ridiculous looking skis. Apparently, they're custom-made in Switzerland, by Zai skis. The one with the fucked up tip is supposed to be a pow ski, but I've got no idea how that shovel design would help in pow. Anybody wanna enlighten me to the secret? Also, post the most fucked up skis you've seen.
SharkoThat explains the discrepancy. I watched the videos you posted of the Vaporizer and it looks like a complete death trap, I would double eject off of those things just trying to carve a turn.
I'm not joking man... sketchiest, most dangerous skis ever made. They literally didn't have a tip or tail. I remember Epic Planks marketed them as like the next generation of rocker technology... the rocker was so profound that they didn't even need a distinct tip and tail...

I went down a groomer on them and they were wobbling/chattering all over the place, zero edge control. If you watch Epic Planks edits of people riding them, their feet always wash out and go sideways just a little bit when they land. Those skis were an ACL tear waiting to happen, at the very least.

CB4TSBI remember about 20 years ago they used to run half hour long infomercials for those on cable at like 2:30 in the morning.**This post was edited on Oct 28th 2017 at 9:55:51pm
Once in a while potheads comes up with magnificent ideas.

Yo I'll post some of my own stuff up for submission:

The edgeless/finned pair in blue are a really good evolution of my original idea. The whole concept is to have a mega surfy edgeless pow ski be manageable on less than ideal snow. Having the fins on the ski definitely achieves that to the point where I'd confidiently take on some steep icy shit with them. They're honestly just acting like ice skates except on your skis. Hoping to evolve and play with the idea more this year. Also looking to get some wicked sick vidyas of them in the park and on groomers to prove them out.
The thing that does scare me about them is that the whole "fin" lineage starts to fall tight to "ski rax" which are about on the same level of Fartcarve, soooo yeah...
A little edit here, here is some "ski rax" action...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iLrDiWYz5fA
Hopefully we can log a few shots that are a little doper than the GoPro chesty POV. The rax is like a ski but missing the tail, and then a fucking spaceship has been mounted in place.
So I really don't want to morph into or be confused with anything close to that. Edgeless deep day skis + hockey skates = fun and safe in all conditions, NO SPACESHIP BULLSHIT.
The structured un-ground and un-waxed base thing is pretty wacky to. It's so weird because it's hard to explain and I could end up getting into debates about the idea that might extend several millenniums. For me though at the end of the day I haven't waxed that shit since I built them like 2-3 years ago, and I probably won't once this season either. As long as I can keep sliding down the mountain fast enough to do fun stuff then I'll keep riding and building with bases like that. If they get ultra slow, I'll just grind them and then wax them.

Park_RangerThey literally didn't have a tip or tail.
Yeah those were not great, not actually flat but flatter than anything else, I think they had like 33mm of rise front and back in the 2011 season. I'll see if I can find a pic.
Those are my skis, everyone else thinks they are weird tho
Oh well...I guess people are weird then :) (just thought that to my eye they look like...well...just powder skis!)

What is this horrible thing? How does it work? (sorry, vid doesn't work on my work computer)

Wow, I wish I hadn't clicked that link. I got sucked down that black hole and when I looked up my afternoon was over and my brain was damaged. The Rax guy talks just like the HeartCarve guy.
SmartJust made a pair like that with a swallowtail.
Intresting concept, although I'm a bit skeptical about no metal edges apart from the weird side cut. ;) However one of the most artistic pairs of skis I've ever seen.

Yoooooo I never saw this thread. Did you ever try multiple fins? Or flexible ones?
And I'm assuming you can't hit rails with that?
Damn, I wish I had shown for that beauty. The tips probably for satisfying/taming all them skier babes when they see your schweet plenks
Agreeing with the dudes up above, the Epic Vaporizer looked dumb as shit. One of the local kids was hooked up with them back in the day, skis looked sketchy as hell. Tips and tails looked like instant death. I have caught the tips on my Ghostchants and they were much higher off the ground
taco_SlaYer.
Rocket pack skiing/motorized skis are long overdue !
DrZoidbergYoooooo I never saw this thread. Did you ever try multiple fins? Or flexible ones? And I'm assuming you can't hit rails with that?
Yeah I think there's something in there about my first finned pair I tried. They had 4 fins that were relatively surfy shaped, 2 each located under the toe and heel bindings. At first they hung like 5mm below the base and were literally on rails at the toboggan hill I tried them on. From there I ground them flat and only about 1mm above the base and they were way more manageable but still really hooky.
Once I moved them to the centre of the ski where the whole skier kinda pivots around, they felt really normal. You gotta be maaaad leaning/carving to get them to break loose.
I definitely need to experiment more with the actual fins, length and how deep they go. I won't be changing the location from centre much anymore. I don't really think having any extras at the middle of the base would be purposeful either, as you can edge with those and then they're just added drag.
These would be death on rails or other park features, lol.
SharkoSurface also made a ski with a completely convex base, I think it was called the Surface Lab 001
I have a pair mounted and one on ice new in the plastic..... Such a sic pow ski side to side rocker is where it's at homie 131 under foot gets er dun

When the customer dropped them on the counter I asked ”Can I borrow these for a day?”
He didn’t seem too excited and said no.
bquick222Haha Line TC had an episode where they shredded using those. Forget which one though. One of the older ones.episode 2.4 dawg
JAHpowNot sure why these haven't taken off
A guy at my local hill has a new set of these. He does crashed ice style skating and uses the sled dogs to train, since there's no downhill ice course anywhere remotely close.

Omg Im crying laughing imagining this guy on sled dogs tryna go down hill as fast as he can in hockey gear bahahahah

He has a sled dogs Jersey too, because he was the first from the region to buy a set. He legit straight lines the hill though, it's actually pretty impressive. It gets really icy here too, because of the weather cycle in the gulf of St. lawrence. He is a good guy though, feels a little bad to air him out but that's it.
