Some of you might have seen my other thread about my fs700 and I decided to sell it. I now have $2500 to buy a smaller replacement for it and I just need to decide between a a6500 or a Gh5. I would get the a6500 with a sigma mc-11 adapter or a Gh5 with a speedbooster since all my lenses are canon mount crop lenses. If I got the a6500 I'd probably save anywhere from $500-1000 to put towards a new car or dirt bike or some other shit, but with the Gh5 I'd get 4k 60, 10 bit 4k, and soon 6k 24/30 if they pull through with that update. Do I need any of that? Hell fucking no. Am I an absolute gearwhore that enjoys blowing all my money on camera equipment that I do not need? Hell fuckin yeah! So idk what to do
Depends what you're using it for... If you're exclusively filming skiing, Id say go with either the a6500 or stick with your 7D. The GH5 is a monster that is going to be way more than you need for skiing. But if you are doing actual film stuff, cinematography and whatnot, get the GH5.

This is a silly comment. OP you were using a fs700 before, the a6500 will feel like a toy to you, the screen will make you want to toss it off a cliff. Get a GH5, it's currently future proof. The 4k60 and in camera stabilization is worth it over the a6500 IMO.
Which canon lenses do you have? TBH i use the 7.5mm fish and tokina 11-16 with a normal adapter and its wide enough, the crop isn't really a problem, you dont NEED a speed booster, if you want to save money.

I have a tokina 11-16 f2.8, sigma 18-35 f1.8, canon 50 f1.8, Helios 44-2 58 f2, and canon 70-200 f4. I'd kinda need the speed booster. And before I had the fs700 I had a gh4 with a speed booster so I'm used to the Panasonic layout and feel
Cant say anything in a media thread without eheath disowning you over it. Do whatever fits your budget. You already have the camera you want to buy in the back of your head, just get it if its right for you.

He asked for advice, I gave him my opinion, whats the problem here?

maybe a noob question, but i'm confused on the speed boosters still...how would you adjust the aperture without a speedbooster with the 11-16?

They make regular adapters that are electronic too. Personally, I use nikon lenses because the aperture can be adjusted without electronics, making the adapter cheaper.
A speed booster has a glass element, changing the crop factor and adding a stop of light to your range, but you can buy a metabones that adapts to EOS and doesn't have a glass element and doesn't affect your crop/exposure.

I'm confused on what you're trying to say. Without the speedbooster, you would just need an electronic adapter and adjust your aperture in camera. If you didn't have an electronic adapter tho, you wouldn't be able to adjust your aperture with ef lenses because they're all electronic based

Ah ok, I thought the whole point of a speed booster was to be able to electronically control the lens still. I've been reading about them but still wasn't quite sure of how they worked.
So with my GH4, would my Tokina 11-16 still have the same crop factor with a regular adaptor?

I sort of get what you're saying if you're talking solely about price - if you focus on the replacing the fs700 part though, there's no sense in intentionally crippling yourself with the a6500 over the gh5 (going to gh5 is already going to have some drawbacks and the a6500 more so)

That gh5 6k anamorphic video tho..... shit looks absolutely amazing. I think I'm sold. I didn't actually sell my fs700 yet tho, I tried to set it up as buy it now or best offer on ebay but scammers keep buying it within 2-3 hours of me posting it. fuck ebay

eBay is the worst. Took 4 delistings to sell my GH3 because people would bid on it, win the auction, and then wouldn't pay or claim they thought it was a GH4 or 5... Done with eBay forever, lost $50 to them just today because someone described one of my brand new items as broken. Fuck eBay

I haven't really had any problems with them until recently. This is the first time I've been bombarded by a fuckton of scammers. Idk where else to try and sell it tho, I doubt anyone nearby me on craigslist would want to buy an fs700 lol. I guess I'll have to keep trying until someone legit buys it
