So I just picked up the Kartel 98s, so sick! I know that recommended mount location is -4 on the Kartel 98s, but I mostly ride park in the Minnesota so I think that is too far back. Once or twice a winter I get out west and ski some steeper stuff. Any advice??
I think (could be wrong) Karl himself rides them -1 from center.
I have mine mounted at +2 from the recommended mounting point (-2 from center) and it's been great. Most of the time I ski park but I take them out of the park and they still rip. On3p stands by their recommendation pretty strongly but living in Minnesota you would probably benefit with a mount closer to center.

Karl has a few different mount points depending on what he's doing. But -1 from true center is one of them.
I've ridden them at true center, didn't have any issues at all. If you're riding mostly park, that's where I'd go. But, it's really personal preference, if you're used to a non-symmetrical ski at true center and know how that will feel, then go for it. I probably wouldn't mount at recommend for pure park though, it is pretty far back.
I mounted mine. -1.5 from center. Feels great, not so good in sticky or heavy shit, but that's not an issue normally.
I rode my old Jeronimos at -1.5 from center and ride kartel 98 -2 from center. Cant feel a difference in swing weight but the ski initiates a turn very well here.
For skiing almost 100% Minnesota park though you can probably get away with mounting them dead center and won't miss much when you go out west. By that point you will probably be super comfortable skiing them at center anyway.
