Does anyone else find social media to be really annoying sometimes? Like everyone is just trying to look better than everyone else on social media rather than just enjoying their lives? Why can't people just have fun with their friends rather than take photos of them 'having fun' with their friends for social media? And how often when you're with other people instead of talking with the people around them they message people and check notifications etc.? It's kinda like some people are controlled by their phones. Like they have to check everything immediately and comment and reply instantly no matter what they're doing at the time. Thoughts?
I can't stand people who care more about their social media appearances than their actual life outside of the internet. I hate it when I meet someone who seems cool and the first thing out of their mouth after being introduced is, "oh do you follow me on instagram?"
why the fuck would I follow you on instagram, I don't even know you..? I almost got in a fight over that once with a complete stranger at the club because I told him I wasn't going to follow them. A physical fist fight. What the fuck.

Ummmm, have you ever tried not using it at all? Like...deleting all social media apps from your phone and blocking them from your internet browser? When your friends pull out their phones; tell them to put it away or you will walk away.
You will be surprised that there are people like that and they tend to be outside and living life to a 100%. Oh yeah, they tend not to care about social pressure and give the world a big, condescending "fuck you" to the world.
I don't mind social media, I just hate the trendy shit that gets tossed around.
Social media is cool cause I get to see tons of ski, bike, surf, etc content and see what the homies are doing.
But then there's this trendy shit like saying
"I'm gonna be so extra"
I fucking hate when people say that.
In the recent months I have spent less time on the "social" part of social media. I'll still watch skiing and look up DIY shit on pinterest and all that junk that entertains me. But I have refrained from endlessly scrolling through newsfeeds filled with a bunch of things I really don't care about.
All in all, I feel way happier and healthier by cutting back. I've found productive things to fill in time and have found real things I enjoy (:
That's not to say social media is all bad, or anything. You definitely need to find a balance and that's evidently difficult for a lot of people. Unfortunately social media consumes peoples lives and it's rather obvious to tell who those people are(probably the people who annoy you the most)

I live my life one social media post at a time. Nothing else matters. Not the mods, not my homework, not my parents and all their bullshit. For those 10 sentences or less I'm free.

the irony is real but I you won't catch me talking about instagram when i'm legitimately talking to people.
Can't get a girls nudes from social media platforms too risky I also have a shit ton of girls nudes on my phone
I think social media is a very useful tool if you don't let yourself get too caught up in the drama that comes along with it.
I think social media is nice for people to stay in touch and you can follow accounts that post stuff you like, but the "I need likes for approval" people are ones that piss me off. I mean, how can some people glorify their own body so much they feel the need to post pictures of it all the time? I'm also not a huge fan of all the overused trends on it as well, but it's not a problem if you don't view the people who post that stuff.
I said fuck it to social media nearly a year ago, very happy to be off. Still have a small private insta that I check on my computer to keep up with close friends, but nothin on the phone. IMO social media really plays with your head and you don't realize it until you're on the out lookin in. You'd be surprised how tuned out people are because they're always peeping their phones. Not having it makes you heaps more patient and comfortable though, gives you lots of time to think and be present.
I'm on the fence about this stuff. I recently cleared out my Facebook, and just keep it for some drone racing clubs that I'm involved with. I've thought about ditching my insta, but it's helped me get over my social anxiety. I'm probably gonna keep it for next year, to keep my friends back home updated on my ski bum shenanigans next year. Might get rid of it in uni though.
I spend way more time on here than on any form of social media lmao
social media is cancer. I sell weed and all these fuckboy customers are like "do you have snapchat??"
No motherfucker, I use my phone
Since moving to Austria, I will admit I use social media way more now. But, it's mainly because it very easily helps me stay in touch with my friends and family back home and all over the globe. While it helps me not feel totally homesick at times, I still suck at taking selfies. Win some, lose some.
I think social media has become a big thing for skiing - aka instagram. A lot of people are using it to get themselves noticed - and I love that aspect of it.
I definitely use social media to keep up with skiing more than anything now - I do find a lot of "normie" posts to be annoying and by that I mean people who aren't posting exciting ski stuff or adorable cat pictures lol
In todays society, tech has grown a bunch and new generations are growing up with phones at a much younger age which has made it where social media is just a norm now. Sadly it's just the way the world is going now and there's not much you can do about it other than be bitter about it and also be happy that you can accept a life without social media when possible.
I think there is definitely good stuff about social media, but I think some people are just way too into it. I still have social media but I try not to spend too much time on it and I especially try not to go on my phone when I'm with other people.

Sounds more like an excuse. These platforms are designed to make you addicted. When you post a picture, or comment on another, receiving feedback is a pure ego rush of pleasure. Its so powerful, that you will anxiously wait for a response.
Example: My buddy loves to post on instagram, every day he reminds me that 20 new people "liked" his picture. The reality is people dont exactly care about the picture...they look at the picture for less than a second and click a button. 5 minutes after, they forgot.
If your career revolves around social media, that is a very reasonable use for it. But in all reality, its nothing but a distraction.
I dont have any social media accounts...unless newschoolers.com is considered one. NS is really good at teaming up with perfect strangers.

Yea. Interestingly, I find that the happier I am, the less time I spend on social media. I'm not sure where NS stands... It's pretty unique.
I didn't post anything on Facebook or have an insta my freshmen year of college because I was just living it up and enjoying life and I used to be obsessed with Snapchat and Facebook my senior year of high school. After being diagnosed with Crohn's and almost dying I decided to make an insta just to have something for my friends to remember me by and going to college in another state I could stay updated on their lives and they could stay updated on mine. I still don't use Facebook anymore besides to look at groups I'm in because that site has just become a wasteland. I still use Snapchat but definitely not as frequently as before I'd rather live in the moment then pull out my phone to record something unless it's something really funny or dope that I want to share with my friends across the globe. Some of the people I grew up with definitely use it for the amount of likes they get but I could really give a fuck less tbh, sororities nowadays force everyone in the sorority to like someone's picture sometimes which I think is fucking hilarious.
