I would like some thoughts on what people think would be the best ski for Colorado. I like the idea of a108-116 waist width twin tip. If you have other suggestions leave them below.
Didn't even see this thread... I havent ridden the Kartels or Mordecais but i have some experience on Nomad 115s.
Nomad 115s: Let me preface this by saying that I am a sucker for big mtn skis and I will be buying a pair for next season even though I definitely will have overlap in my quiver. Also, my experience was on the 181cm version of the 115s.
The 115s have a surprisingly playful nature for a ski of their size. (I'm 5'9 165lbs) In comparison, they're a more slashy, pivoty, and poppy version of the Moment Bibby Pro. Now, I know that the Bibby is regarded as one of the greatest skis period so I'm sorry if I offended anybody but as soon as I went through Red Chair at Mt Bachelor on the 115s, I was in love. Like the bibby, they bust through all the tracked out shit effortlessly but once you got to an open powderfield, pillow line, or tight tree spot; they preformed exactly how you would want to no matter what you throw at them. I can honestly say that they're more nimble than my park skis in the trees and wayyy more fun than my JJ's in the deeper stuff. Not to mention, I found them to be a bit more buttery than the 105s but still had the same if not better carving capabilities as the 105s on the groomers due to a little more weight.
I would also check out the Sego Tater Tots, Sego Bighorns, K2 Marksmans and the Moment Deathwishes.
Depends on how you like to ski. The Mordecai will be the most playful but doesn't have the backbone for high speed turns through variable snow. The Bibby Pro is surprisingly playful and also performs amazingly well after everything gets tracked out but is very stiff, definitely more charging oriented like most of Moments skis. I haven't ridden the Kartel but from what I hear its a great compromise between a super playful jibby ski like the Mordecai and a more directional charger like the Bibby.
I've had a pair of mordecai's since around the new year and as fun as they are in east coast trees and for jibbing around the mountain- they don't quite have the backbone to charge through chop without getting a little shaky. Also, the sidewall has already started to protrude underfoot, won't be skiable by the end of the season. I've heard nothing but great things about the kartel. Look into the blizzard rustler 11 for next year. 114mm waist in the longer sizes and 112 in the shorter i believe. Replacing the gunsmoke's, supposed to be a little bit stiffer, lighter, and more more directional without totally losing the twin tail.

Check out the Black Crows ski, the Anima

Eh. Sorta agree.....
Kartel 116 is more chargy / capable than the Mordecai for sure. Still need to get time on the 191 Nomad 115, but I would say it really depends on your style. Like a softer ski, that's more buttery? Go Mordecai. Like a more capable ski that's still very playful? K116.
At Bachelor I'd go Mordecai for sure. You don't need a chargy ski there.

But you should have a ski with backbone to accomodate a true PNW winter. Not this anomoly we had this last season. Cold smoke is generally not on tap.

For sure. I mean, I'm from Schweitzer....I miss that dense pow a lot.

Im sure the Kartel is the most hard charging ski of the three and the Nomads I'd say could be the middle ground in between the Kartels and Mordecai. However, I did demo the Mordecai (only for a day so I didn't really give a review on it) and I didn't like it at all. They felt like they were never going to hold an edge on a fast turn and while they did float in some soft snow, they weren't nearly as fun as the Nomads (or Kartels I assume). The nomads are softer on the fatty ski spectrum but they do hold an edge through chop very well if you have more of a powerful style of skiing. I rode the Black Crows Noctas that same day I tried the Nomads and the Noctas just destroy everything. Super heavy, damp, and hard charging. The Nomads weren't too far behind however. They do get thrown around in super dense and wet chop but otherwise they have a stiff enough shovel to plow through some crud.
Just for the record, chargy skis are fun at bachy if you're not up on Northwest. It helps alot in Cloudchaser because the East side gets pretty flat as well as the Ciffy/park trees ;)

Would you recommend that someone who is 5'10 to rock the 184 bibby pros?

If you’re sold on the bibby then that’s the size I’d recommend. If you are truely and expert skier and these would be a pow day mainly ski, the 190cm could be tameable but the 184s will provide better versatility. I ride the 184s and I’m only an inch or so shorter than you.
I was kind of on the fence about either the Mordecai or Nomad myself... Though length wise I worry the 181 would be too short and the 191 too long. Mordecai in the 186 is dead smack in between. This is skiing primarily at Revelstoke and I have the Enforcer 100's so looking for a chute/deep powder/bowl/tree ski. I live in Canada though so tracking down certain skis can be a bit tricky...
Where would they atomic backland 117's fit into all this? Or could they even be considered in this ball park?
How stiff would the Nomad’s be compared to the Atomic Automatic? Thanks
