craiglist is very good for looking for a new truck im 16

ya roll coal guy yee yee
It's cool that they have so much towing power, but honestly if I am towing ten or 15 thousand pounds I would personally feel a lot better in a bigger truck. They don't weigh enough for how much torque they have, if they trailer brakes went out you would be completely fucked. And at least with the power strokes the computer will randomly decide it's going to start burning off excess buildup in the exhaust and your truck starts belching smoke everywhere until you can get it to the freeway.
Real question is, do you want one or do you need one?
.MASSHOLE.Real question is, do you want one or do you need one?
I need and want one a truck is more convienent than a small car because I can put my skis and my friends skis in the bed of the truck and I can put all my stuff in the back, I want one that is jacked up I just found one for 20 grand that has 80k miles on it. It's a black gmc has about 13 grand of custom work into it it's suck and a good deal
Dodge the Father
Ram the daughter
And Cummins in her face
let me ask you two questions before I give you any advice towards you wasting all of your money.
do you know how to fix, and maintain a turbo-diesel engine and drive train?
do you like the idea of having a garbage work truck that is literally broken when you buy it?

hi
I'm not tryna discourage you from buying a dirtymax; they are a great truck. Realistically a power joke, chummins, and dirtymax are all a safe bet this day and age.
Just make sure you're about to use it to its potential and not waste a ton of unnecessary money. At the end of the day you're either cashing money for a work truck or for a brand (maybe both) - make sure its what you want/need.
Remember it will probably be pretty damn expensive. However, most employers (if they require a work vehicle) will compensate for the truck so that's something to consider. If you want it for your own personal use, then you don't need any justification other than for your own shenanigans.

and what is your price range even? cheaper than craigslist doesn't leave you with a whole lot of options, for any vehicle.

Listen to Mingg.
It seems that this is all for personal usage. You can get any truck, throw a lift kit on it, and have what you want. You don't need a diesel to do any of those things you've described, you hardly need a truck.
I get the desire for a truck, they're great to have, I have one. Do I need it? Outside of carrying skis and my bike, not really. A small sedan would have worked just as well.
But to pay the extra $5-10,000 minumum for a diesel so you can lift it and roll coal 100% isn't worth it. You're going to pay out the butt to do any repairs on the engine (you still need to buy parts regardless of how much your dad knows), not to mention the costs of fixing joints earlier due to the lift kit.
Why not get a regular full sized truck for less?
And chances are, that $20,000 truck with sub-100,000 miles is either a plow truck or work truck. I'd stay away from that if I were in your shoes.
And if you're in the northeast, look for rust.
That listing and those conditions have me somewhat suspicious.
Listen kid, diesel trucks are great, but the reality of it is, you don't need it. Don´t drop 20k of mommy and daddys money to buy a truck that you know nothing about (which is obviously the case). Unless you plow or pull a trailer all youre doing is throwing away money on avlot of wasted power. Take it from someone who´s had plenty of friends go down that path, for god knows what reason. My suggestion, buy a nice midsize truck (ranger, tacoma, etc) and lift it as high as your little heart desires, even that will probably be more truck than you need
itsJacobMy dad basically teaching me on how to maintain a duramax, it aint a work truck though
Buy a half-ton if going skiing with your friends is all you want it for. Unless you're pulling all the time then a diesel is not what you want. just think... every injector is essentially a new pair of skis. Get a 6.2L GMC, pretty decent on gas for 400HP and very reliable.

BUY A RANGER AND FUCK WIT IT.
You can get a v-8 in there and learn a ton about trucks. If you put the money you would have put into a diesel into a ranger, you'll end up with a much sicker truck.
Why exactly do you need a duramax? Trust fund bursting at the seems so hard you can't cash out fast enough?

Not sure if they salt where you are then, but still a consideration if they do.
Is the title salvaged? What kind of cab is it? Is it 4x4? That price doesn't make sense to me given that it's less than 80,000 miles and a Duramax.
If you're looking for validation from people on this board on buying a Duramax, you won't find it. You don't need it.
You're not towing, plowing, or even using the bed for any heavy gear. You don't need the extra HP, the benefit from diesel is going to be negligible, and frankly you don't even need the lift.
You're 16. You're going to do dumb shit, you're going to make mistakes in this vehicle. Hopefully they won't be serious mistakes, but if they are, that is $15,000 down the drain and a nice rate hike in insurance.
Find a used F-150, Silverado, Tacoma, Ram 1500, and mod the shit out of it and do whatever you want in it. It's going to be cheaper to buy, mod, and fix than any diesel you get. There are a ton of good older full-sized trucks out there that can be either had for less than $20,000 and similar mileage, or less than 80,000 miles and a nicer interior package.
you do realize its $250 to do an oil change on a diesel right? Its $30 on a gas truck. everything about a diesel is more expensive. everything. yes the fuel cost at the pump is cheaper but what are you using it for?
To get your friends to the ski hill? get a half ton kid. its going to be way cheaper in every sense of the word. Ya rolling coal sounds cool but its fucking EXPENSIVE.
You want a diesel. You never need a diesel.
And even if you try to argue with me that maybe you'll be towing something. You need to be towing fucking mini excavators and 30' boats all the damn time to make a diesel practical. anything else, a half ton gas truck can handle it. Trust me. Ive owned both.
Dont waste your money kid. Wait until your older.

That's even more of a reason not to spend that on a big diesel truck. You could get so much more for your money

Its a crew cab, of course its a 4x4, I will be plowing and using a trailer for it for atv's and snowmobiles, I do have a good job and I have been working and getting paid for a long time, I do drive very long distances up north in wisconsin and I plan on towing our atv's up there this summer, I am going to keep the truck for a long time. The truck is used gmc sierria 1500 2006, I has a lot of custom work in it so it saves me some money. But thank you very much for the advice

Why the fuck would you buy a diesel if you aren't hauling? You realize regular maintenance is incredibly expensive right? Additionally, having a truck in the winter kinda sucks unless you have a sled deck or something heavy in the back for weight. I'd highly recommend a car or SUV and just toss a box on top but if you're set on a truck just don't buy a huge one. Get a tacoma or something smaller

See, if you had said you were hauling ATVs and snowmobiles, and plowing in the OP it would have made a LOT more sense on why you're looking for a diesel.
Then a diesel isn't a bad call at all.
Modding it wouldn't be the best bet, can't imagine it helps plowing but I have no idea if that is true.
That being said, I didn't think the 1500s came in diesel, only the 2500hds and up?

Ya modding the truck would be horrible for plowing and id guess that what he wants to do makes towing less practical as well. I think based on every post of his its clear the op knows absolutely nothing about trucks. Hes clearly like every other 16 year old and just wants a big mall crawler thats loud and can roll coal

Yeah, it seems counter-intuitive to lift a truck up when you are doing either. I've seen some F-350s, 3500HDs, etc. that are lifted but only because they're towing/carrying something so heavy that they'd bottom out if they didn't. OP isn't going to be towing or carrying anything even remotely close to that heavy as I don't think 250s or 2500s can.
Outside of the fact that most full-sized truck trims (especially the upper Ford trims) are nicer than my Tacoma's, I'd never want anything large and frankly 99.9% of the people I see driving full-sized trucks around me don't need them.

This will be a better bet than the dirtymax, OP.
if you can get one with the lbz engine. you can usually find them in the 06's and of course lower miles the better. also try to stay away from anything that's chipped or has a tuner. if you do find one you like that has a tuner then you just gotta use your own judgement to make sure it hasn't been bagged.

I love me a diesel but the fact of the matter is, you have no driving experience and would probably just end up putting yourself and other people in danger driving a lifted 2500 as your first vehicle. Two guys I know started off in big lifted diesels and they've both hit the roof because they didn't know what to do in snow. I almost flipped a 2500, from lack of experience.
A ranger, a canyon or a toyota pickup would fit your needs a whole lot better than a lifted 2500 diesel. You want one so bad that you're literally throwing logic out the window, 20 thousand for a most likely clapped rig-pigs old dirty is waaaaay too much money.

If you want real power get yourself a good ol 7.3 powerstroke. They're some of the most reliable engines ever made and aren't too hard to work on so a kid who knows nothing like yourself could figure it out pretty easily. Powerstrokes are the way to go.

I live in southern Alberta, home of the unnecessarily lifted, diesel truck, owned and drive by guys who work in the oil patch. They drive around in open fields and dirt roads in all seasons and even then, most of the time they are overkill. I'd take a Taco over a big diesel, but that's just me.
My dad has a bone stock 04' Duramax with something like 500k km on it. Outside of having to do the injectors a few times (a pretty bloody expensive job) and other routine maintenance, it's been pretty darn reliable over the years.

There is a difference between being able to "afford" and emptying out one's bank account for something.
This, more likely than not, falls into the latter category.
If he 100% needed a diesel for work, then fine, it isn't the worst idea (but still not a good one) but he doesn't. He wants it for pleasure which would be fine if he weren't spending all his money on it. He could easily achieve the same results by going with gas Ford F-250/F-350, Chevy/GMC 2500/3500, or a Dodge 2500/3500 and save a shit ton of money in the short run and long run.
So everyone harping on him in the thread is doing so because they recognized he doesn't need a truck like that and it isn't fiscally responsible.
He doesn't have to listen to anyone here but there are people who are older and have gone through similar purchases or experiences that have insight he does not.
