Why doesn't NS promote the freeride world tour at all? It seems pretty newschool to me and its way more exciting than x games imo...
I think so! I'm happy to see that Logan Pehota is killing it
Personally, I love the FWT, and it definitely does represent the "newschool" side of skiing. However, it's a very different side of it compared to park skiing, which is what dominates Newschoolers and is what most of the people on here relate to.
For some reason balancing on rails two feet off the ground is more notable and interesting to NS than ripping a 50 degree line in Chamonix. People just like different shit. Each one sounds badass to a certain type. And you have to be rich or very lucky to be able to relate to FWT skiers at all.

The simple answer is we used to cover every single stop but it was almost totally ignored.
In fact we were a media sponsor of the tour for the 2 years prior to this one. I was lucky enough to go to a handful of stops and I think what those guys do is one of the most incredible things in skiing. If this is something there's a lot of interest in, I'd be down to reconsider the decision!

Yeah man - I was so surprised that there wasn't more attention paid to it.
Anyone in this thread remember that coverage? Any other NSers able to chime in as to why you would/wouldn't care about this?

I was a big fan of that coverage, bring it back!
This year I have a homey on the tour so I've just been watching her runs from the replays haha. But I'd love something the style of the coverage we did for the AFP finals in Whistler for the FWT. Would pay for that kind of content.....
Seriously one of my favorite competitions, love watching them blast through those techy lines.
I used to be 100% park but now, I really love seeing the gnarly freeride/bc/pow stuff on Newschoolers! Definitely would love to see more FWT

Now that you mention it I totally remember seeing FWT coverage threads a few years back. I was just too much of dingus to pay attention. I've gotten way more into freeriding and all mountain skiing since then though and now I'm obsessed with the FWT.

So much this. I wish there was a. It more total coverage of events, some background etc rather then just the review of the event which is still good.
I'd love to see more FWT stuff. Even the young 12-14 yo juniors would blow most people's minds if they watched in person. All these kids ski park also, they just grew up skiing in areas with insane terrain, not just a terrain park or some rails.
Some of the lines from Cham at the pro level were absolutely insane. Same with the 4* wrangle the chute last weekend. With the juniors on the come up, there are a lot of tricks being incorporated into lines as well.

Yah I've been lucky enough to ski with a few people who compete in the qualifiers and they are by far the most impressive skiers ive ever personally seen!

I love big mtn and love watching it in general and the FWT but even so I can definitely recognize that it isn't as spectator friendly to park people. Sorta the same way I love playing and watching soccer but totally get it when people don't dig watching it
I'd love to see more NS coverage of it but I don't blame you for not doing it more if you get no return or response to it
it's by far the illest comp in skiing. if you can't appreciate how insane and raw that shit is you're pretty clueless.
i watch FWT on youtube all the time. the coverage is super good and the skiing is top notch. people should also know that these guys generally pay their own way through the tour. pretty badass.
I think a few years ago people where all about park but now as we've gotten older we are into the backcountry stuff more.

I mean by the responses in this thread it seems like we should Fuck with that shit a bit more.
Im all for it. Skiing is dope as fuck wherever it is. AK or the streets, I love that shit.
Tour is over this year, but if Twig agrees we'll put it in the coverage scedule for next year. Gotta convince Twig though - he's the boss these days when it comes to edit.
X games coverage has been so damn tight on Ns recently

But would you be stoked on more coverage of the Freeride world tour?
Mr.BishopBut would you be stoked on more coverage of the Freeride world tour?
I find it hard to find the exact air time of these events, and a recap from NS is always apreciated, so I think i would follow the fwt much more if NS covered it.

But be honest here - do you give a shit about events like that?

Hell Yeah get back on that shit, I love the FWT!!!

Yes please. I watch every replay. Including the lower star comps.
Showing more recognition on ns would be great for the sport.
Mr.BishopBut be honest here - do you give a shit about events like that?
I've been around big mountain JR comps for a long time coaching and filming. These kids are mainly all on NS. I think a lot of them kinda lurk, because its mainly park things. Obviously the interest isn't the same, but I think with more coverage a lot more kids that are into these comps would react more to the content.
I just streamed the entire ski mens runs which is in a link above at Fieberbrunn last week and it was insane. Some insane crashes and injuries unfortunately however.
Just show the top runs, in completion. The 4 hour webcasts are way too long for any person to watch straight through.
I agree that the NS community would dig coverage of some of the bigger junior and 4* events too.
like this sickest transfer ever!!!! http://www.tetongravity.com/video/ski/check-out-this-guy-stomp-a-super-techy-line-at-full-speed
i'll be at the next 2 stops, could do a quick write up surrounding the events if theres interest
Ive gotten more into the fwt than park events now. Probably because I'm older and moved to a powder city skiing alot of backcountry.
rsvpi'll be at the next 2 stops, could do a quick write up surrounding the events if theres interest

Hit me up and let's sort something more in depth about these events, I might come out to verbier too.
In an update for everyone else, I've reached out to the FWT crew and have plans coming to do coverage of the last two stops this year.

woo!
If a park skier can't love Garret Capel's winning run at the Wrangle the Chute 2* last week, something is wrong.

Park is what NS is all about so keep that freeride bullshit out of here, no one cares.
Seriously, there's still TGR. And the FWT has it's own website providing plenty of coverage and video footage already. Really no reason to add another one here.
Just another vote to say bring back FWT coverage, that stuff is the nuts!
A few ideas:
-score some interviews with tour athletes if possible. Ask them about what life is like off-tour and about the things they have to do to make it as an fwt athlete.
-again, if possible, produce a highlight clip that features each run in a comp w/all the extra stuff cutout...something in between the 2 minute highlight clip that fwt does and the 4 hour full replay.
-more coverage of junior events! like someone mentioned earlier, a lot of the competitors lurk on NS and I'm sure they'd all appreciate the exposure. I think it would encourage more community among different types of skiers who use NS as well.
I realize this might be asking a lot of a rather small staff. Just some thoughts.

You are axiomatically wrong. You are either a troll or an idiot. The two are not mutually exclusive.

No, YOU are apparently the one who's brain is full of shit and gets insulting because you just can't argue.
This thread is about NS coverage on the FWT - which already gets plenty of really good reporting elsewhere leaving nothing to desire. They got their own well-known web site with write-ups and excellent, encompassing video footage which is fun to watch. So why the hell adding another one here when it just can't be more than a poor copy and 2-3 mouse clicks bring you the real deal?
And what means mutually exclusive? Despite some FWT athletes throwing a trick or two during their run their comps are mainly about creative line choice and fluid skiing. It still remains an entirely different discipline within skiing, like it or not.

you're trying way too hard bro
To be honest the FWT is kind of boring to watch.
D.B.To be honest the FWT is kind of boring to watch.
Ummmm..... go to an event. Mind will be blown and you will be drunk because it's the biggest party scene in skiing. X games athlete lounge has Pop Tarts and Macaroni and Cheese. FWT athlete lounge has free Sierra Nevada and people outside with huge grills and partying. Plus you should prolly tell that to Johnny Colinson, Conor Pelton, Connery Lundin, Issac Freeland and countless others and see how they destroy the park.
All in all, to each their own opinion. Most of the FWT youngins crush park and then bring it into the gnarliest terrain at mach 3 speeds with a downhill non-existent takeoff and sketchy landings.
To me, the Freeride World Tour is the most exciting and impressive traditional ski competition going on.
Slvsh is incredible as well, and so much more fun than traditional slope contests imo.
I still like watching slope contests and honestly watch everyone i can, but my enjoyment is always so dependent on the course itself. And lately, even when the courses look amazing and seem to have endless possibilities, the competitors understandably end up taking similar lines and doing similar tricks leaving a lot of the features or take offs or what have you mostly ignored.
Think it was aspen or Norway slope and I don't think anyone used the hip or quarter or side tranny takeoff. Probably the skiers realized it wouldn't score high or didn't allow for the most tech tricks.
What I love about the fwt is the fact that while a few popular lines definitely emerge every event, the possibilities for unique approaches and styles are enormous.
I can't recommend enough to people who haven't seen an event to check it out. And honestly fuck the results and placing, it's just fun to watch bad ass motherfuckers ski big, rowdy terrain.
Some guys cruise and focus on style and find playful hits and good snow and make it look easy to toss cork 3s off of natural takeoffs. Other guys, barely turn and make their living skiing dead fall line and stepping to the biggest airs. And both are amazing.
