At my home resort alpine valley, the amount of jerrys and rental kids is unbelievable, it pisses me off, they need to monitor the parks to keep the gapers out like at a park in Norway where they have a jerry net which is a rail in the middle which you have to hit or you gap the fence
s.j.mitchellWas skiing down the park one day and a park crew member had just raked and painted the lip. It was a pretty slushy day. I hit it and then right behind me a Jerry come through and mashes the lip to the ground. Park crew guy and I had a good laugh about that
solid story

OP what makes you any more entitled to the park than anyone else, jerrys included?
colbyapplegateEveryone was a jerry at one point they just need to be taught. Jerries in the park is good for the sport as annoying as it is you just gotta teach them
Yes and no. Everyone has to start somewhere. We were all shitty at ine point.
New people need to get into the park or else will loose number in the future.
That said they still need to learn the rules and etiquette of the park. Some are very willing. The ones who think they know everything can go fuck themselves.
imo this is very comparable to backcountry/touring skiers hating on newbies. Sure there is some liability to being new in the park or backcountry, but we all have to start sometime. Plus the industry feeds off of people who ski less than 12 times a year. Without them we would all be shit outta luck

If the park is built to be ridden a cetain way you're more entitled than the family sidejumping rolling features, and snaking people.
That's just the way. There are free public skateparks everywhere. If I decide to lay out a blanket and have a legitimate picnic in the center of the bowl is that alright? I mean the parks a public park and my taxes helped pay for it. Why can't I have my picnic?
Being good doesn't really entitle you to the park, especially at the expense of other users. That said if you're using the parks you need to follow the rules.
Also a lot of bad injuries and lawsuits start from somebody using the park improperly.
Everything from people sidejumping at getting hurt, airing off the knuckle and getting hurt, deviding that 50 footer in the large park is a better first jump to try than the 20+ smaller ones in the other parks.
Park staff puts a lot of effort into planning and building out parks in a way to progress people. The goal being for people to never have to go from a few 15' jump to a 40' or dance floor box to a 25' waist high down rail.
Accidents can happen anyway in the park or mtn, but it def drops the risk down.

you're using an insane analogy to prop up your argument. Enough with the skate park comparisons, simply for the fact that riding in a snow park is much more directional in terms of gravity/pull.
Everyone pays, and therefore has equal opportunities to ride in the mountain. Your tax dollars do not factor into your average resort park.
It seems that you either need patience or would have to build your own personal park to be content.
Someone already mentioned this before, but you're better off educating others if you're really passionate about riding in the park, park etiquette etc.
Also if I'm not mistaken I don't think there would be much grounds to sue in all of the scenarios mentioned in this thread due to skier's actions/neglect and liability waivers.
I think this post stems from the "heady" mentality a lot of park skiers uphold - that might be the issue worth addressing.

Okay. If i decide to camp on landing of a jump. Why is that not okay. I paid full price to ski with my family. They're going to slide down the jump as much as they want.
Idk what you're saying there. Im quite happy with parks that have people riding although i do love some quite midweek morning laps.
Back off warchild. Where did I say im not down with educating users? Im mot sitting at the top of the xl park shoving jerries into the woods screaming "get the out kooks" or locals only.
All those cases are actual lawsuits, some happened many times. Even outside of suits they're reasons why mtms have had to nerf their features.
My posts aren't from the heady mentality. Theres a mix. The old agressive local surf artitude is way to much. The fuck it, let them do whatever they want is too far on the other end.
Smokey this is not nam this is terrain parks. There are rules.
Parks that have to mark every rail, parks that got rid of jumps entirely, etc are because of people getting very hurt and huge lawsuits.
But yeah Im just old and "too heady" and mad that kids are having fun in the parks.
I myself ski at Snoqualmie pass in WA, my resort does have a small park for little kids or beginners on the bunny hill, my resort also has park passes, to receive one you must answer a series of questions in regard to park educate, this seems to keep out all of the Jerry's or people who have no idea what they are doing. Just putting in my two cents.
WorkingFTWeekendOP what makes you any more entitled to the park than anyone else, jerrys included?
You need to think about the serious safety concerns. When you get people that have no idea what they are doing they can hurt themselves and other people. When I take off a 30ft jump and there is a kid sitting on the landing.................................. I get mad too
It's annoying when they go off the sides of stuff and cut you off, but don't be a dick about it... everyone starts somewhere. I used to not be able to hit rails or anything but still liked getting air. I think it's mainly a problem at smaller mountains, doubt you really see it at some of the prime parks.

Like you said, there are rules and I just presumed that camping on the landing of a jump wouldn’t be permitted. So that’s why that wouldn’t be okay.
Maybe I am undermining other people’s ability to gauge what is safe and what isn’t given the rules and signs and what not, but I agree safety is a concern.

I'd rather see a jerry that LOOKS like one and openly accepts being a jerry, than some kid who has all the gear (dressed in xxl clothing, expensive park skis etc...) but no idea, you gotta start from the bottom.

The day you see a Jerry with 2 different skis on his feet, sticks he found in the woods for ski poles and a Walmart bike helmet trying to access the park is when you start to draw the line. And yes, they are funny as fuck.
Safety of others is what I am preoccupied with. If Im riding park, avalanche terrain or inbound chutes, I want to make sure the people around me are not a threat to my life. They should be as aware of the risks as I am and be aware of the ways to reduce collisions.
That is why I want baby parks to be easy to access and built for a beginner. They should be built under chairlifts and bunny hills. XL parks should be out of public eye and difficult to access, but not restricted to insurance bearers.
ChevyDiesel makes a thread on this -> Upvoted and praised
I make a thread on this except with the word Asian in it -> Downvoted, Attacked and thread deleted.
Double standards smdh

Go to whistler then complain. That park is full of Jerrys. All the tourists think that they are the next olympian so they go and wreck themselves on a feature and then i gets closed for a while.
In all honesty I kinda enjoy having jerrys in the park, sometimes i get a good laugh at the raw stupidy and I also get to complain, I especially love when they all sit waiting to hit a jump and i decide to throw a crowd pleaser like a backie or something haha and they all freak out. I only dont like them when they become dangerous, like this one time i was about to throw down on a pretty massive rail switch and a little tiny(maybe 3 year old) girl comes out of my blind spot and goes diagonal across the take off and I nearly killed her. I wasnt as mad at her as i was with the father. I really let him have it and told him that he should keep a better eye on her and that i have no problem with her trying to progress park but at least know park etiquette.
Does anyone have photos of this jerry net OP speaks of? Sounds hilarious
Edit: Sike I found it
This is genius. Though I will admit on family ski trips my parents will occasionally follow me through the park to watch me throw down because I'm so dope. Kinda embarrassing for a 26 yo but whatever. This would make them mad lelelel

Just go ski a bigger line. In my experience the small features are crawling w Jerry’s but they usually stay outta the bigger hits.
