When popping hard for an ollie the board often shifts in the air so I land horizontally and can hardly ride away if at all. (Looks like an incomplete frontside ollie) This is happening pretty consistently. I have been dragging my foot straight up the board so not to push it in a spinning motion. So when I ollie on or off something with a lot of momentum it is dangerous because I often land awkwardly. Why is this happening? Is there a general problem that causes this?
could be you're opening your body up, and check where you're actually pushing the tail down. it'll spin if its on the edge
I think it may be because when you try to pop extra hard, you open your shoulders up, turning your body, causing that sort or fs 1 you're describing. Try to keep your shoulders over your feet and pop straight up, especially with your arms
like the last two comments said it's likely in your shoulders. i sometimes find myself doing this too if look too far ahead when i'm rolling into a trick and my body naturally wants to land feet next to each other vs front to back.
yea keep that shit sideways..... don't land like a skier LOL
Screw ollies anyway. just front 1 whenever you need to Ollie.

you're turning your shoulders while you're sliding your front foot, or when you pop and push your back foot down you might be doing a very slight fs shove it by pushing down and in front of you at the same time.
Post a video dude.
