This is so much better than having 2000 threads made by people (including me)
I'll post something because I want this thread to survive, be gentle this is all I was able to film in a park this season thanks to university and the east coast disaster (also the park closed in the middle of the day and it was f***ing -25, my worst season yet for park filming)
This is a good thread idea.

Haha -25 sucks! Just went skiing in -5 and I could barely hold my camera it was so cold. The edit was good but I felt it was really short and ended abruptly
StokeFactor
Yeah I agree it sort of ended abruptly but good shots! Edel is looking nice this year, definitely want to film with you this year
Lets keep this thread alive so there isn't millions of different critique threads all the time
I think one way this thread could become successful is if somebody wants their video critiqued there has to be a critique given to the video posted before them. That way everyone gets some feedback on their stuff (Am I making any sense?)
So since Guillaume got a critique on his video I'll post something I filmed back in January.
M.M
That was so ill! Loved the filming and song and that disaster onto the DFD was insane.
I did think the color correction was inconsistent between the first half of the video and the second half. Overall sick job and keep doing things right.
*SNO*
That was pretty sick. Only thing I can think of is to follow a bit closer if your going to use a wide angle but if you're gonna try to move father away I would use a longer lens. On a glide cam it can create a pretty cool effect if you have a steady hand. I loved the color correction though.

thats dope, as ben said try getting a little closer on ur follow cams. Also, imo, 60 fps video looks kinda wierd, i would suggest shooting 60 fps, exporting 30fps aside from that dope vid
very, very short. Just a quick edit for instagram

pops.fuckme duck mesecdnd try
switching angles mid trick can be sick but it didnt work here in the first two moves. kickflip switch was dope though
pops.fuckme duck mesecdnd try
I thought the switching angles was cool I liked how it was lined up perfectly
WizardofWashttps://vimeo.com/143581047
I would try to get a bunch of different angles instead of just what seems like a one take and in the same position. It got boring and the time between tricks took a while

ben_collinsI would try to get a bunch of different angles instead of just what seems like a one take and in the same position. It got boring and the time between tricks took a while
on the contrary, I dig the one take thing, but I would switch the angle up at least every new time he deos a different run, it's repetetive otherwise
M.Mto keep this thread goin
Fuck me that was tight! Only thing is I thought the second half was distracting flat. Bump your contrast. That said, the first half was perfect dawg, looked/felt crazy nice
Not the greatest by far, but my hard drive crashed and these were all I could salvage last season. Critique away!

Damn that sucks about your hard drive. I thought you could get closer on a few of the glidecam shots but besides that it was good. I like the color grading too
Haha I think the music behind the rapper was the theme song to parks and recreation

Please please please don't put in a Facebook like button and a subscribe button. It makes me cringe everytime.
Besides that its pretty good. It has good pacing (I only watched the Karl Dashian one)

I agree on the jumpy ending though. Maybe a gradual audio fade to mellow the transition

you sir know how to use frame rates, good color as well!.
Alright guys bear with me on this one I know my audio clips in spots due to not having my wind muff but this is not released yet, do the front side tricks seem repetitive hows the feel of the edit?

I thought the audio was very annoying (I know you already said this)
I would work on putting a lot more broll in and not just throw it all in at the end
Also get closer on your follow cams

I don't necessarily agree witht he getting closer on all the follow cams... Look at how big the skier/rail are in relation to the frame, different focal lengths will give you a different view on it haha, not everyone's shooting their follows with an 11-16 or a fisheye /owns one

Anyone else watch this expecting to see front 2 after front 2?
If anything the blind tricks got repetitive.
Heres one i recently posted that didn't get much attention because of all the other edits that came out at the same time!

Was trying out a new setup in this video. Wanted to know what you guys thought about it?
Brentizzlei just put this up yesterday.
I really liked this edit, it was super clean! one thing, did u use a powered gilmbal or a glide cam? or both? it was hard to tell. But great edit, keep it up!

Damn that was nice. Very clean edit. You should try some long lens stuff on your gimbal because I saw a skateboarding vid with 70-200 shots on a gimbal and it looked so sick. Also did you use a LUT because I thought the color grading was nicely done?
MNSkiersHeres one i recently posted that didn't get much attention because of all the other edits that came out at the same time!
That was sick. Only thing I would say is shorten some of the car shots in the begging and when the skier is on the rail make sure you get there frontside and not their ass
j.benzigerWas trying out a new setup in this video. Wanted to know what you guys thought about it?
I thought it was sick! Really clean all around but you might want to get some more broll and vary up the angles a little bit. it was getting repetitive with the same shot over and over again

Nice that was sick. Only thing is I would get some more BRoll and put it in the edit cause it was kind of bland with every shot being skiing
I made this edit back in early January but just thought to put it on here now.
IK it probably contradicts most of what I said above with all the critiques but I'm still learning too and we only had a few hours in the afternoon. Lighting is by far less than Ideal and I think I could've done better with grading and audio

To be honest I'm not a fan of the song choice. It's a good song but every time I here it I have to compare it to the infamous bloody ink edit. As far as the editing goes a few of the landings on some shots didn't match up with the audio. The title for the second rider was too slow and I didn't really like it. You used too much slow motion for my tastes and you called youself a "Director, Editor, Cinematographer" which sounds cheesy. It was good that you did some work on the audio but I think you need to be more selective with what shots you decide to include. You could cut a lot of those shots out and be left with a better, shorter edit in my mind.

I use a gimbal. trying to get rid of my glidecam since i dont use it anymore.

yeah i'd like to shoot some long lens but my gimbal wouldn't be able to handle my 70-200 as it would just be too long of a setup. I really want to get a 24-105 because that would be mint for a gimbal. And yes I grade with vision colour osiris luts.
Thoughts?? This end was from a shitty season last year, going up to do some more filming this weekend and looking for some tips

Thanks.
When I looked back at it a week ago I did realize that it was a very long edit for not amazing skiing. My next edits I will definitely try to condense. And the audio got messed up with speed ramping in premiere pro so I had to manually align it so thats why it is probably off

To change the speed of a clip at various parts and have the sound change also:
1. Go into the time remapping panel and add the start and end keyframes for your part to speed up/slow down.
2. Then alt click the audio to select it ONLY. Use the razorblade tool to cut the audio at both parts where the keyframes are, you will see the lines on the clip to guide you.
3. Then time remap the keyframed section, alt click to select the audio only, and use rate stretch to make the audio match the length of the video.

Thanks a ton I was having a lot of trouble with that
Yooo people!!
Just threw this together the last 2 days and figured i'd toss it in here

I'd say some decent stabilisation is needed, it wasn't awful by any means but a few shaky/jerky shots did detract from the overall edit.
I also wasn't sure if there was any theme to the edit, it seemed to cut between different people in different resorts and then to urban and then back to park, i would have liked to have seen a little more consistency.
Oops forgot to add my latest vid i filmed for British Freeride's junior camp. Blessed with weather shame about the snow quality.
My main personal critique of my own work is how much warp stabiliser ive had to use, because we were on the move quite a lot, i didnt have loads of time to setup tripods so alot is filmed handheld, unfortunately i dont have the steadiest of hands....
Anyways critique up!

I didnt think that the shots were too shakey, but that probably because of the post stabilization. something that might be useful to try for those times where you dont have much time to setup is a extendable/retractable mono pod, although it wont be as versatile as hand held it will be a lot more steady.
here is a video i made a couple weeks ago of an annual basketball tournament at my highschool. i also did last years, and this one was so much better, so im stoked on that. let me know what you think!

That was sick! I would love to film in that place. I do think that some of the warp stabilizer was evident in some shots and that the two shots of them checking the snow felt repetitive.

That was cool with the backlighting but I feel like the fading out and back in with every shot got annoying
ben_collins
Liked your audio, might not've lined up perfectly with the music but the hitting the snow on landings and stuff was cool
Chubz.
Music was different, but in a sweet way. Digging the Tropical House, vibe of edit fit the song well. And thought your use of slow mo was sick
JibbaTheHutt
As you say could've been cleaner with a tripod, but at the end of the day still good! Not the most jaw dropping of shots ever but still kept me entertained.
LukasSchroeder
Would've been cool to see the basketball all the way through the shot, like tracking all the way into the hoop
Double post, but thoughts? I know a could of the clips are off sync with the music. Thinking of using a different song, any suggestions?

Looking ok but there were a few things that made me want to stop watching. For starters the footage was super shaky in a lot of clips so I'd recommend getting something to reduce that a bit. It was also fairly long and should be cut down to maybe a minute and a half with only the best tricks you filmed.
I would also look into testing out doing some color grading/correction if you haven't yet.
