I haven't been to Vail to get one myself but anyone that has gotten a "speeding ticket" lately? How much? Etc? Whats the 411? And can someone post a pic of one? -BOB
I was in summit county over winter break and skied vail, Breckenridge, keystone and beaver creek for the week. First day at keystone I was making turns through the swarm of jerrys on a main run to the bottom of the hill. Apparently I was going to fast and got a warning... not a big a deal but still annoying. A few days later at vail I was going even slower than I was the first time I got pulled over, but the yellow jackets thought otherwise. The dude yelled at me saying he was going to take my pass and such but I talked my way out of it. Since I already had a warning I now have to take an online class about skier safety if I want to ski there again this year. They should put up signs saying if you're a decent skier don't ski this run because you will get pulled over for being the best skier on the mountain, like I was

Lol thats fucked up
First run of my first day in Colorado for spring break last year I got pulled over at Breck for "speeding" from the quad down to the park. I was totally in control, and honestly not skiing very fast to begin with. I was using a friends epic pass for the week and when a yellow jacket asked for my pass I thought I was screwed. Luckily I talked my way into a written warning. I keep it in my wallet because I found it so ridiculous. It literally says "Infraction: Speeding"
I was told that 2 warnings in a day = loss of pass until you complete a "safe skiing course."
So does anyone know if at any point with these tickets you have to dish out cash?

Ive heard that its 2 warnings in a season. Not sure if thats true. You also dont need to spend any money on them unless they take your pass and you have to purchase a new one.
I just don't stop, I've only been chased because I didn't actually see the yellow coat till way to late. Blew past him and looked back to see him skating after me lol. Flew to the far side of the mountain then back to the other side (side I was staying on) I got about 6 or 7 chairs between us on the lift. Pointed my tips straight the whole way, got to the bottom popped out and just ran back to my hotel. Ditched that coat for the rest of the trip though.
I have talked to a yellow coat before I knew what they were, Sprayed the sign he was standing beside before asking him a question haha. Apparently you can be ticketed $500 for spraying their signs from what that yellow coat said.

Vail's slow signs are knit with gold thread by the Dalai Lama.

Ive heard that they are to lol. Never been to vail but it seems fucking ridiculous,it seems that anyone who is decent will get yelled at and harassed for skiing.
I got a formal written warning last season for essentially not knowing where a slow zone was. Two formal warnings and you get your pass suspended for two weeks and you have to go to a safety class.
Someone on NS received a formal warning for three consecutive seasons, and I believe he had his pass suspended for two weeks (if not longer). The employee who gave me my warning said that warning from previous seasons are "erased" so I think that kid got really screwed or they put in a new rule.

I got you
I also have a friend whose infraction was: "Flames spitting out back of board." Glad yellow jackets find humor in ruining skiing.
I was at Vail shredding some runs early in the morning. Ducked a rope to hit a kicker that was built just to the inside of a wide left turn. The yellow coat said that I could have gotten my pass taken for a whole month. Buuuut he chalked it down to a speeding violation. Careful ducking ropes out there! never know who's whatching.
Warnings stay on your pass for a full year, regardless if it was last season or not.
A good friend of mine forgot his pass, so he went to the pass office to get a reprint. The lady behind the desk chuckled and said " we have a reckless skier on our hands, huh?" It was pretty funny.
I just blow by them. Go ahead, chase me. I dare ya.

can confirm the two warnings and you get your pass suspended for two weeks and take a safety class. Happened to myself at heavenly.
The yellow jackets are chicken shit. They will issue warnings and try to make it sound like it's no big deal, so you don't make a fuss. Then you'll get a phone call about your pass being suspended.
ok Thanks. Keep raising hell out there!! These bitches are just straight up ruining skiing.

cept for the fact they can actually track the chip in your pass now. when you try to get on the chair at the bottom you get an error and can't use it anymore. i don't believe it's implemented at every vail resort but pretty sure it is at beaver creek.
my buddy got a ticket and had to go take a class. because of school and work he wasn't able to do the class for a couple weeks and he missed a bunch of december shred days.
vail fucking sucks but honestly it's not surprising with the amount of ppl they get at all their resorts. they're forced to cater to families. o well if you wanna shred and a core resort don't go to vail simple as that.
In whistler all the lifts now have RFID gates with cameras pointing at them, and apparently they can just search your name, and pull up video footage of every lift you've rolled onto throughout the season.
Whats even worse is that ive heard the slow patrol can just drop a description of you, and %90 of the time they can identify you, and the pass you are using...
A basin earlier this season my buddies and I were skiing with some girls we know. A yellow jacket stops one of the girls for having "improper form for the speed she was going." Keep in mind this is now late November so keystone and breck are open and a basin isn't a mad house anymore. Well my friend asked the yellow jacket why "he was being an ass the girl is trying to progress her skiing by going faster?" "She's not even a bad skier she keeps up with us and hadn't fell the whole day." The yellow jacket freaks out and starts screaming at my friend demanding for his pass. He started telling the jacket he had done nothing wrong etc, (takes away the girls pass for 2 days) the girls leave we continue to ski. The last run we are all coming down in control taking turns and this guy just flips out on my friends and I for skiing too close to each other on the run? Takes our passes tells us "you're all done here!" We go argue with head of safety at a basin he was chill gives us our passes back.
That's actually the dumbest thing I've seen today. Speeding tickets, who do they think we are cars. And now you have to take a class. That is all so stupid. I feel really bad for you. NS we should sign a petuition to stop the madness.
if they are not using a device to measure velocity then it cant hold up at all. i get the be careful in slow zones but really? a safety class and suspended pass? sounds like i wont be going to vail.. ever..
How the fuck do you guys get in trouble for this shit? As long as you don't look out of control right in front of the yellow jackets you won't have any problems...
Oh here we go. Thread number 1 billion of "Omg vail is so mean and hurt my feelings".
Don't bomb down slow runs
Don't stop for yellow jackets
Not too hard

Jackson Hole tried the whole speed gun thing on the Casper lift area, only last about a week b/c when you have rippers and a speed gun, obv we are gonna make a contest out of it. Never ever got in trouble/ticketed/talked to.
Skiing is something I do to get away from distractions and sink into the immediacy of the moment.
I guess I see the need to slow some people down, but everything about this is exactly what I do not want in my ski life. And if this is corporate ski culture, then I want none of it.

Get a touring set up. Or better yet, a snowmobile.

A Basin has yellow jackets now? Are you sure you were at the right mountain?

Ah didn't see that someone beat me to it
Anyways I agree with 'Bortionater. Beating a long dead horse here.

People keep telling me about those touring setup things. I'll look into one.

He was a ski patrol who has taken on the persona of a yellow jacket, I've never met a patroller anything like that in my life.

Snowmobiles are much more fun. Look into that instead

fight one and put it on utube
No speeding tickets yet despite a high-score of 75mph, but was definitely told not to ski switch near the other guests at Park City. Cool.

Thats more than likely the problem... park kids cant ski and always look out of control when they are not spinning slowly on a flat box..
Someone cause conflict with a yellow, film it, and put it on NS. Or just try an get into a police chase type thing, that would be gold
If you dont stop what can they really do? They cant tackle you or anything. Even if you stop and they ask for your pass tell them no and ski away. If they follow you go home and your pass lives to ski another day.
What happens if you just have a day pass and run?

Or we could have a ns meetup there and everyone just mobs the shit out of slow zones they can't stop us all.
.Rybak.What happens if you just have a day pass and run?
This is what I've been dying to know since the first day I set foot on vail resort property. I feel like they would fucking tackle you and make up an excuse why later.

They're ruthlessssss. Last year I was cruising down whis and got to the bottom. Headed over to zogs for a tasty hotdog, next thing I know someone's tapping my shoulder....friggin yellow jacket. Managed to get away with just a warning, but damn, they'll follow you into the village.

whistler has yellow jackets?
On the subject of yellow jackets, the "safety patrol" at holiday valley NY can go fuck themselves. I was once chewed out by a group of them for having my buddy with a camera posted up on the lip of a dfd for all of 10 seconds
HP123whistler has yellow jackets?
So many of them!!!
Anyone down to rip through a slow zone and snow a yellowjacket and film it for entertainment purposes?
one of the like 2 perks of skiing at a small hill in NY: no "slow patrol"
.Duncan.How the fuck do you guys get in trouble for this shit? As long as you don't look out of control right in front of the yellow jackets you won't have any problems...
this is what im thinking.
the slow signs are there for a reason, any time i go past one with yellowjackets sitting there, its super congested
if youre good enough to go fast, you're good enough to do it on something other than a green run in a high traffic area
