So my parents won't let me backflip and they think I need a coach. Despite the fact that on a trampoline I can land a backflip every time, and my backflips on the trampoline are the ones that you jump staight up and tuck at the peak of your jump. Also they think I'm going to break my neck or something like that. So what do I do to convince them to let me do a backflip and that I don't need a coach, what did your parents think of you backflipping, how did your fist backflip go, and did you have a coach?
Well unless they have you on one of those little leashes that parents use for their kids, how are they gonna stop you?
just do one then show them the video of you landing it
I was in the same and boat and I still am, kinda. My parents always underestimate my skill set... TBH it pisses me off a lot. My dad always says don't try any backflips cause you'll break your neck, but two fridays ago I went up to my mountain and front flipped off the knuckle. I stomped it my first try and I showed my parents the video and they still reprimanded me.... Like wtf... from now on I'm just not gonna share what i do at the mountain. you would think they would be happy for me but no...... they just yelled at me for being stupid. *shit parents who don't resect what i do* whatever. hope my shit story helps you dude.

That really sucks dude. Congrats on the front flip btw
since when do you have to ask your parents to try a trick?
I'm not gunna go to my mom and be like "let me bio sev bitch" ill just do it
My parents think I'm a pussy for not back flipping, not really but they always ask if I tried flips after skiing and they just think skiing park is really cool. Also my dad wants to go out west so he can learn 3s into powder so he won't hurt him self

Your parents sound sick ahaha
murphyboiiiisince when do you have to ask your parents to try a trick?
Well I didn't ask them they just saw me trying it and then they yelled at me saying I was going to break my neck or get a concusion.
murphyboiiiisince when do you have to ask your parents to try a trick?I'm not gunna go to my mom and be like "let me bio sev bitch" ill just do it
love you murph
My parents didnt want me to and they wanted me to go to an airbag or water ramp first, and neither exists anywhere near me. One day at winter camp at hood we built a powder jump for fun because the lifts closed due to wind and i decided that it was when i would try backflips and i just went for it with the help of a few tips from a coach and just sent my parents the video of me landing it. As long as you know the basic things (Pop hard, Commit, etc..) you'll be fine
When i told my parents I was gonna do a backie they lol'd and told me i sucked :(
My mom thinks that she can make me not do backflips... and she says she'll take my skis away if she finds out that I am doing them... like wtf, you're gonna take away the only sport that I enjoy.
My dad is the complete opposite. Yesterday I tried a lincoln for the first time and I told him that I landed on my back. He said "good job for trying, just keep this between you and me and don't tell your mom."
If you try inverts make sure you have a friend with you, just in case you actually do break your neck or hurt yourself (very slim chance that you actually will)
JustinG7Well I didn't ask them they just saw me trying it and then they yelled at me saying I was going to break my neck or get a concusion.
Well did you land on your head when you tried it?
Mr.noodleWell did you land on your head when you tried it?
No I got most of the flip I just caugh my tips and landed on my knees
Just do them to get them down and learned, and wait to put it in your season edit or whatever until you happen to get some kind of coach. Then just tell your parents you learned them with the coach. I did this, my parents think I learned my first inverts this summer. In reality I could backflip, cork 5, and was working on my rodeos the season before.
If you will never have a coach just do some convincing that some pro/semi-pro was at the mountain one day and really helped to teach you.
unless your parents are following you around on the slopes just throw it
I was in this situation once. So I did it anyway. One day they found out, but they saw some footy and they realized o know what I'm doing. Now theyre chill with it.
JustinG7So my parents won't let me backflip and they think I need a coach. It makes sense honestly. I'm not saying it's reasonable, but they likely don't understand the sport. They see the negative side. You getting hurt, breaking new equipment, not being able to use the pass they bought you etc. It seems like an unnecessary risk. They probably aren't watching park edits of people throwing down, but if somebody get's hurt or killed skiing, it probably grabs their attention.
Honestly just do it. I mean I'm just some stranger on the internet but I would. In my opinion, ultimatums like that, though understandable, are dumb. If you can do it on a tramp, you can do it on skis. If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
Don't ask for permission to learn tricks, maybe don't even tell your parents you're thinking of trying a trick. Don't mention the 270 on you're trying to learn. Share it with your friends, share it online, but if your parents are the kind that worry relentlessly and will write up a list of tricks you can and can't do based on nothing, it's better they don't know some things.
Build/ find a jump, straight air it, imagine the flip, visualize it with the airtime and pop the jump.
I'm not one to say, rebel against your parents, actually rebel against your parents.
Get a tattoo, graffiti your neighbors house, rob a store, etc
i was in the same exact situation a few years ago. One day I decided to just do it and when I showed them they were proud. You are not going to progress anymore if you don't do a backflip and your parents sound like they also have no idea what they are talking about. Just send it
Imo, what difference is a flip then a normal old 3, it's not like you automatically can't hurt yourself doing a 3, but you'll definitely hurt your self throwing a backy, just tell ur parents there's risks involved in the sport, and with just about everything in life, and if you know you can stomp one then just go for it!
take your mom to the top of the run in and tell her to watch and than huck your fucking meat and send a backie past gucci plateu

Hey there man, thats awesome you are looking for your parents approval before doing inverts, i would say you should have your parents spot you, they can call pull if you need to get tigther to flip to get it around quicker, or out to come out of the flip so you wont over rotate. Look into getting some back protection and a mouth gaurd and that will help take alot and you will have a less likely to knock yourself out.
If you parents are not involved in your ski life i would have your friends film the other stuff you can do, any tramp videos of you doing backflips and let them see you are ready to step it up and that you are involved of the risks. That being said you alwayd have the risk of getting hurt. Im a park coach so I have seen some of my kids get hurt on their first ones and some kids that nail it, these kids that i train have more than on snow training to be qualified for a backflip so its all in your hands. Dont get upset with your parents for caring and there are other skills you can work on if you are not up to that level, skiing is about the foundation, wear your helmet!
I just built a jump out of a gully with lots of pow and went bolts like 3rd try, definitely landed right on my face first try but i was 13 and didnt give a fuck ahah
first you want consistent layout backies on a tramp beforehand, second everyone eats shit the first time they try but most of the time it works out and in my case landed bolts second try. just gotta take one for the team to get a backy its a huck it or fuck it type oh trick
bedinskiIf you will never have a coach just do some convincing that some pro/semi-pro was at the mountain one day and really helped to teach you.
Yeah I probably do out then lay low about it then one day tell them this or just not tell them at all
I feel you, I was in the same spot. But my parents rarely ski with me so they didn't know un til a month after that I was throwing flips.

they don't underestimate your skill set or disrespect what you do. They aren't shit parents, they seem to care a lot for your safety. They can't conceptualize or rationalize what you are doing or what you want to do because they don't do it themselves.
You are a part of the white elite that can afford to ski and can afford health insurance in event of you crashing. Get over yourself and start valuing your parents opinion.
What do you ski around with your parents all day... just do a backflip
uturnWhat do you ski around with your parents all day
No I was trying them in my backyard
JustinG7No I was trying them in my backyard
my answer remains the same
I'm in the same boat. I know I can land it, but they say I need a coach. and they won't pay for one either. If they are gonna force me to get a coach to ski, they should pay for it. I'm not afraid and I really want to try, I'm just afraid they'll find out

Send it son. Seriously, just do it. People let their parents have way too much control over their lives.
I'm not saying rebel against them on everything, but just send it if you want to.
In the future don't discuss all the tricks you want to throw.
I think u have all the advice u need. Let's see a backy clip
I built a kicker in my backyard and just kinda did it. Mom was making dinner and saw it and just walked outside and was like "Holy shit that was sick!" My parents aren't chill about a lot if things but they let me do whatever I want in skis.

My dad can hit dfd's, hit decent jumps switch and he's 50. My mom thinks it's cool and really doesn't care. My dad did give me shit for not flipping a 60 footer tho.
First thing I ever back flipped was my bike. I never asked for permission though lol why would you? One day my mom was dropping me off at the skate park and I told her "Watch this!" Did a flip rite in front of her hahaha, she screamed sooo fucking loud.
Asking for forgiveness is easier then asking for permission. IF you really bout that life
Same thing happens to me. They finally let me do it and then I stomped it.
You should probably just stick to skiing gates and groomers. The terrain park is a scary place. Fuck that throw a cork flip off the camera and play it at Christmas!
murphyboiiiisince when do you have to ask your parents to try a trick?I'm not gunna go to my mom and be like "let me bio sev bitch" ill just do it
hahahahahah this is great "let me bio seven bitch" hjahahahahha
.lenconWell unless they have you on one of those little leashes that parents use for their kids, how are they gonna stop you?
but how rad would it be if someone stomped a back flip on a leash? fuck.
Why are you all so pressed for a backflip?
Is it really worth hucking and not being able to ski, let alone walk again? no.
If you wanna learn them, learn them on an airbag, but hucking shit is why so many kids get concussions and broken bones. You can't enjoy a trick you huck, you have no clue whats even going on. I can't backflip. I wouldn't try until there is a safeway to do it. I can cork and rodeo both ways on the tramp and even stomped a cork 7 into an airbag before, but I'm not stupid enough to risk my health to the point where I might not ever walk again. Is impressing someone for 10 seconds worth never skiing again. Sorry for the deep rant, but I'm against hucking tricks.
