I'm calling it. Remember me when it happens.
Must not be that super unknown then, IMO L1 should pick the athletes that actually go to superunknown that way they can pick underground guys that nobody has heard and get them on the scene instead of guys like Keegan already on ttp and pretty well known. No hate to him, probably one of my fav am's. Just and idea but I think it would be cool.

"Only amateur athletes are considered eligible for the Superunknown contest and prizes. How do we define "am?" Basically if you're receiving money as part of a contract beyond equipment and travel support, you are by definition a "pro" and no longer eligible. If you get free skis or someone bought you a plane ticket to get to a contest you're still good to go in our book. We reserve the right to disqualify entrants if we feel the rules are being bent too far or broken."-Level 1
It's fucking impossible to be unknown in the day and age of Newschoolers. If you're good enough to be considered for super unknown chances are people are stoked on your edits.
Quinn vs Keegan in a game of SLVSH, please

Fair enough to me, just seems like last year there wasn't anyone that I had never heard of or seen, but I guess that's the reason they are There, Good enough to be there but not at the next level.
ski.the.eastQuinn
You read my mind lol. I think it's really between those 2. And Swadburgler will be in the mix too if they all enter. All 3 have been killin it sooo hard dude.
Didn't jonah have a full on sponsorship with salomon and saga at the time of superunknown?
No matter who wins, i bet quinn and keegan will end up filming with somebody. or who knows, maybe one of them doesn't enter
FigNewtonFranchino?
Franchino is the last person who should be in Superunkown. He won Rails to Riches. The kid is not superunknown at all haha. He had a superunkown edit like 6 years ago. Not Keegan or Quinn should be in it either. These 3 are not superunknown at all haha. I really hope none of these 3 are in the contest. They already film dope edits. They don't need any help from Level 1. Just keep doin wat there doin.

Not even and am anymore though. He has a "pro" model with HG and TallT

Like stated before..its really impossible to be truly "unknown" at this day in age. Everybody who has a dope style is gonna be IG "famous" in the ski world and have banger VOTD edits out.
Frank is fucking dope and I couldnt consider him a pro skier by any means. Sure he has sponsors and well known on NS but hes still an up and comer. Same with keegan and quinn. I never heard of either of those 2 guys before last season/this summer. Just because its their break out season doesnt mean that theyre too well known in the ski world to take part in this contest.
You think nobody heard of brogan or ahmet when they won? C'mon now..
That being said hopefully some not so known skiers will make edits that get into finals.
Id love to see cal carson send an edit in. That kids dope

I can see your side on Keegan and Quinn. Since im from the East iv'e seen Keegan kill it for a while now so thats my bias. But Franchino, No Way. Him being in the contest was like the last year Dom Laporte competed in it which they shouldn't have let him. He was already super Wellknown. That's where Franchino is at. He made a superunknown edit like 6 years ago which was the proper time. But for the past 2/3 years he's blown up.
Chubz. You think nobody heard of brogan or ahmet when they won? C'mon now..
Ahmet never won.
But I agree with everything else you said about it being impossible to remain truly unknown now.

Flow is hardly sponsorship
adam delorme should win regardless if he enters or not
drinkbutter@alexhallskiing
He's becoming known but yeah I can see this happening, the kid is crazy.
Evan Furbeyre?
Simen Gjelsvik?
I'd like to see a real unknown guy win this year

Fuck yes
Dont know him but id love to shoot an edit with him, Kilbride has some of the most fucked rail and jump game ive ever seen.

Chubz is right. Except for the Ahmet part. With the Internet and NS, it's impossible for people that follow and watch edits to not read about and see who is killing it. I have never heard of this Quinn person and I've seen some dope edits of that Keegan kid. All I am saying it is impossible nowadayz for people that kill it and roll with people that are known, not to be semi recognizable, whether that be by their name or sick shit they do. Flow is much different than being sponsored and being sponsored is much different than being "am". These cats should enter and in turn be recognized for being legit skiers. 100
Keegan is the man and I love his skiing. But he is crushing and pretty well known at this point (ya'll should have seen him years ago at the Loaf, crushing it during his underground days). Right now the biggest underground scene is in europe, IMO.
The referenced post has been removed.

marslandAhmet never won.
Yet he still dropped some of the dopest Level 1 segments.
Just being a finalist creates way enough popularity to make it as a pro, especially with the new formula of taking all the finalist to a 10 days shoot. (I mean look at this bunch of "losers": http://freeskier.com/stories/ranking-top-level-1-superunknown-losers-time)
That's why it'd be cool to see a few truly unknown guys in the finals, kids that are crushing it but that might need a little help to boost their image and name in the ski community and on social medias.

Agreed 100% thats why when superunknown rolls around you always see these fucking absurd edits from people in norway, finland, sweden or where ever and these kids destroy it. Prime example Bendik and Vegard last year or Norsteng the year Mitchell won. If keegan does submit an edit though hes definitely gonna be in the finals regardless and could most definitely win hes got dubs both ways if im not mistaken and his rail game is next level.

This would be so dope!
DFJJake Carney
Came here to say this. A Simple x Jake Carney superunkown edit would be legendary.
Wallisch was damn near an NS household name before he won almost a decade ago.
drinkbutter@m1sta_mango
This boy really the 1 thoo
also this shits pretty ill, thanks for the love
adamwolynSam zahner anyone?
Hey...buddy!... You just blow in from stupid town?
PringleHey...buddy!... You just blow in from stupid town?
He lacks the jump game needed to win their park shoot, but his rail game is absurd. If he can take some of those tricks to big urban features he could film an insane part. Don't count the kid out
PringleHey...buddy!... You just blow in from stupid town?
What's wrong with Sam Zahner? He can spin and scissor like crazy on rails and is pretty good on jumps too. That plus style. Watch his season edit. It's something like Sam zahner season edit 14/15. There are some bangers such as: front 8, future fed, front 3 swap to switch on a flat tube (not surface swap, but 3 all in the air), and his mole grab is unique and not being attempted by anyone else right now and it's sick af. There's tons of more impressive shit that I don't remember since I haven't seen it in a while.
But why don't you just shut the fuck up and not be such a dick. He can't do some of the shit that someone like Keegan can do but the super unknown contestants don't get further because they are necessarily better.
To get to the finals you need to have a really good edit. Edits don't show you exactly how good someone is. They just show you what the skier can do. And you can bet that the skiers can do more than what is shown on their edits because they are limited in time. So the skier has to choose which tricks to use out of many. keegan can do many sick tricks but he simply can't show them all off in a short edit. Same with Sam zahner. If the edits were really long(5 min+) then we could see a big difference because we would start seeing a better idea of what that skier could overall do. But the edits aren't long.
2 minutes is only enough for the skiers to show their very best tricks. This will give us such a variety of things to watch in many different edits. How do we compare the aerial abilities of 2 skiers who put out 2 edits that have only a few jump shots. 1 edit might only show only really big kickers while the other might only have time to show spins with crazy sick grabs and tweaks. We cant know for sure how the first person stands up against second when it comes to innovative grabs and how the second does on a kicker with a massive grab. How does an urbanless edit compare with an urban only edit? Of course the latter skier can do urban but how well?
And so not necessarily do the best skiers go on to the finals. It doesn't matter how good we know someone is, what matters is how good of a very short edit can they put out. It's not such a concrete black and white thing. There's a lot of variability and uncertainty to what can happen.
So it's not that fucking long of a shot that Sam zahner makes it to the finals and the finals are a whole new story.
Keegan can double but what if there isn't a jump for that. Correct me if I'm wrong but they didn't have a big enough jump last year to show off many doubles. There was an interesting whale tail that gave such a potential to get creative.
What if they have a very flowy park with rails that are very close together this year? How can you say that sam zahner isn't very good at doing tricks one right after another and Keegan doesn't need more time to prep before a rail? Point is, the park can be built to fit any style and can cater more to one athlete than another.
In conclusion, the competition is very variable and prone to unexpected things happening. It's not such an easy thing to predict because of all the things at play. So while it's still unlikely that zahner will win, it's not completely ridiculous to have some hope for the guy. He has talent but will be challenged by the many other people going against him. All this judging on skiers is pretty damn subjective too. Exchange all the judges out for new ones and you probably will have a different winner. This shit doesn't all go down as simply as you think.
adamwolynBut why don't you just shut the fuck up and not be such a dick. He can't do some of the shit that someone like Keegan can do but the super unknown contestants don't get further because they are necessarily better.
Good lord... Give it a rest dude. I honestly don't give a flying fuck who wins the cute little contest.
Write a novel while you're at it, damn.
Superunknown or not, these dudes that rep Tall T such as Keegan Kilbride, Quinn Wolferman and Parker Norvell are on a serious come up. I would not mind seeing an edit with all of these guys or them even starting a crew.
Parker Norvell is killing it right now. And Keegan threw that nose butter dub 12 in the new Unveiled edit that was unreal. Both Jake Mageau and Swadburg are skiing so well. There are so many guys who could win it this year. How is Alex Hall being considered? He's on the US Freeskiing team. Isn't that being known?
