So I have been skiing with poles my whole life and recently stopped using because it is easier to get grabs. However I feel like I look like a dumb ass on rails and just riding around. So I was wondering what looks better poles or no poles and whether no poles make it easier to get grabs.
Your mom told me she prefers nice, long poles. They're better in them bumps, ya know?
Can't decide? Call it even and ski with one pole.
poles are evil...i snapped 2 pairs paste season and this year i fell on my pole and it caused my collar bone to break. So from now on, I will be skiing with no poles
i think the real issue here is you actually care what people think about your brotha
I like poles cause they help me spin faster but its way harder to get grabs

I'm sorry about your satanic poles I laned on one of mine went right into my gut and snapped it and got the wind knocked out of me
If your gonna ski with poles get gloves instead of mitts and grab with 3 fingers. Honestly I can do either or but I think poles help me on the rails with balance, maybe not but when I don't have them it feels like something is missing. I'm on the same boat I skiied no poles my first year and now I ski poles all the time and I feel so dumb without them. I feel like if you don't have poles long enough you can pull it off.
i feel so uncomfortable spinning without poles, so i need them. you could try strapping on your straps really tight or possibly getting shorter ones? but skiing without them isn't necessarily bad imo
when im sking out of the park, i always use poles, carving just feels wierd with out poles to me but when im in the park i usally don't use poles, then again im usally filming but even when i'm just crusing around the park i usally dont use poles, just feels more naturarl
I love skiing with and without poles, I have more fun without poles but until I just start to lose control I just look like an idiot without them. Using poles surely makes me ski cleaner and have more control. Personal preferance I guess.
Do you wear gloves or mittens? I used to wear mittens with poles and I could never lock my grabs. I switched to gloves, and grabs were no longer a problem. Just my $0.02
Skied with poles up until I was 14 or 15. Then started going no poles. Then I realized I looked dumb and went back to using poles. Then I learned how to style and ditched the poles again. Still use them outside of the park.
No poles is ok in the park, but its just weird the second you leave the park.
No poles no problems. Now that I don't have poles I can carry my lucky Lipton tea hat around in my hand skiing ( even though I broke my hand because I was holding that hat when I fell Sunday ):..)
Poles get in the way, don't use them, it looks fine if you don't use them as long as ur abang on fleek
I just feel more balanced with poles, I just think it's something that's in my head

You need poles. No disrespect just would clean your style up alot more and itd help to not try to force the bang.
I rode without poles from the start and always had flailing arms, worked on bringing them down couldn't nail it. Rode with poles again for a month and then pole less becomes smooth for a week. Personally though I ride with mittens and poles and have no problem grabbing my skis, like everyone else has said I can go larger, faster, more confident on any feature with them. To really work on your style imagine your handles have 5lb weights in them and you cant lift your hands above belly button or nip high
ben_collinsI like poles cause they help me spin faster
How does that work?

i 100% disagree. you are used to skiing with poles so its more natural for you. Try skiing without poles for long enough and you will get much better. I dropped poles and I have so much more style now. When I use poles I feel alot less fluid and more robotic and forceful, and I always have. Just look at the edit in my sig and that was the first half of the season when I still used poles. I dropped them shortly after I finished filming for that and skiing is just so much more fun when you feel like you flow

I know what you mean. Nice edit by the way! But to be fair I skied without poles from the start and switched this season to using them it was awkward as hell but now I'm getting used to poles. I'm only in my 2nd season so I'm not on your level but I've got some stuff under my belt. If you look on my profile my season edit without poles isn't horrible but I'm a bit wonky and then this seasons clips ive put up as well I feel and look alot more fluid with poles and smoother style. I know what you mean by the robotic look with your style, I noticed the shots where you dont pull your hands back in front of your hips you looked natural and relaxed and it matched your pole less style just a bit more relaxed if that makes sense. It almost seemed when you use poles you focused on returning them to your stance where as without the poles you get your arm swing and different little swaggers to the tricks like in your teal blue jacket.

What about a water bottle
A thin grip on the pole and gloves help a lot to get grabs while using poles.
Last year i skied with poles but then whenever I went to ride the park I would just put them at the top and never use them. Eventually i decided to stop using them and I can't say I regret it.
In the park I think its to each their own, but when you get on the steep stuff it becomes a necessity.
I shit you not...my cousin broke his jaw landing weird and hitting his head on his poles. But i don't mind skiing in the park without them. But like when I'm ripping down the mountain i just feel a little more comfortable.

Gapping off a flat down grabbing safety held it to long put my pole in the snow caught edge punched myself in the face super hard like that.

I can agree with you. I used to ski race (first year, "intro to racing" )and I used poles for the start and then dropped them at the first gate and I placed first against kids doing it for a couple years. Skiing without poles can go both ways, but it's up to yourself to fix/embrace not using poles. I think good style with poles is less clean then without poles. I agree and think flow and creativity is much better when you don't have poles. If you look at great skiers that do crazy skiing on rails and buttering, the often don't have poles. #polelessbaby
I think kiddie poles are a nice compromise you don't look like a goon in the liftline but they don't get in the way.
stoned_sorcererHow does that work?
I have no idea it just does and feels right. Maybe its just balance and comfort but idk.
No poles in the park, pole outside of the park. I find myself cruisin groomers without poles pretty often and I end up just draggin my hands around haha
Ski a season without poles and you will develop mad style....
I prefer skiing without pole because I hate having to strap in and out, take them on the lift, etc.
Plus it makes easier to roll blunts and smoke on the lift, seriously
THEDIRTYBUBBLEThen I learned how to style
this is like the 4th thread ive seen you jerk off to your own style, chill, its not that good.
Haven't skied with poles since I was like 11. It feels so much better without them. I feel like the stupid old head PSIA level 400 ski instructors I work with who always tell me to use poles. I convinced both of my parents to ski without poles after 20 years with them and they won't even touch them anymore

haha what? Did I say I learned how to have an amazing style that everyone should love? No. I learned how to ski in control and not look like a total gaper.
I'm about the short poles. I'm like 5'10 and I use 110cm poles. They don't really get in the way but are there when you need them.
AparkerWhat about a water bottle
that shit leaked but waterbottles are almost as cool as that hat
At my home mtn there used to be a guy who would ski around and juggle bowling pins so if you go no poles at least do something cool with your hands
