For Everything FWQ related in North America this year.
Does anyone know what went down at the Revy 3*? No info beyond this article
https://www.newschoolers.com/news/read/Two-Days-FWQ.
Revelstoke doesn't have the results up and doesn't even have the event on their event calendar. IFSA and FWQ haven't updated results and I can't find a bit of news on it anywhere. Did no one care about this event?
I wrote up a bit about the two different FWQ comps (2* and 4*) at Kicking Horse this year to settle any confusion that may arise.

Totally new to competing, but looking to enter the Kicking horse 2*. This might be a totally impossible question to answer, but what is level of competition like for girls? Especially in a 2*? I understand that the level of skiing for the chicks isn't nearly as gnarly as it is for guys. I've skied the CPR ridge a couple times, and can huck of some smaller cliffs, but so unsure what level the ladies are skiing at! Any info would be super appreciated

I would say it's more about how you would compose yourself while competing. Year after year I watched heavily sponsored girls tomohawk down the guts of the chutes after making a turn. Then, the next day, ski the mountain like champs. If you can make strong turns and ski with some speed you will do well. If you can land cliffs you will do better. It's always a gamble with the women's field. Some events I've seen the women's division out ski the guys (Lake Louise BMC 2013) and others, they just haven't held it together. But that is the beauty of the 2*. It's a fucking fun day of skiing and a good, relaxed atmosphere to see how you handle comps. Are you familiar with the zone specifically?
Cooooool I feel like this is actually so reassuring, just go out, give it a shot, and whatever happens happens.
I've probably skied the ridge 3-4 times, so although I couldn't tell you where each tree or cliff band falls, I'm not totally unfamiliar with it
anything stateside? kinda interested in competing but would love to spend a day somewhere watching guys and gals huck meat.

Hell ya. Just have a time and go in relaxed. It will ensure you enjoy the day and will probably result in your best skiing. The whole weekend is a big party if you want it to be. Go ski the area of the comp if you can. We used to close it a week before so it would be pow. I'm not sure if they are doing that this year. Typically it includes from Suckers Go Left to the far side of two chutes down ridge (Tie One On, I think). Have a line you are comfortable with, that is what gets you the most points. Don't look like you are skiing it for the first time.
Jr World Champs in Andermatt. Damn good skiing from some young'uns. I like how they've tagged each individual run for easy watching.

Fuck yea Kylie!! Chick slays so hard.
Was watching a little bit the FWQ here in Revy. Have seen way better Junior FWQ 3 stars... Seperate Reality isn t the best 3* terrain regarding creativiity combined with drops.
Well I didnt expect a lot afer I ve seen the FWT and adult FWQ here in January. North Bowl is definitely better for comps.
@ohhjay:
If you have a solid technique, good balance and decent core strength you can easily compete. Depends on your age, but hucking big shit isnt necessary. Often a nice flow and creative line brings riders in the top 4 without any tricks.
If you skied moguls competitive, Big Mtn. wont be a problem for you. Just practise hucking cliffs, drops and landing under control.

That wasn't a Jr 3* at Revy. Just a regional stop. Maybe the best people didn't show up to that one. There was a big one at big Sky the same weekend. Usually the top Jr boys are better than a good chunk of the men on the fwq. This generation that has been raised and coached on freeride comps is insane. Race backgrounds are usually a big help but a lot are now growing up only doing freeride.
