I have a pair of old black diamond skins (they're purple) and have reglued them once a little less than a year ago, using BD glue from a tube. I don't leave the skins on my skis while in storage but today when taking them off, there were large patches of glue EVERYWHERE on both my skis. I'm assuminging after a couple turns the glue will come off but is there another way? Also what to do about the skins??
Skins are done. most likely the glue was not cleaned off all the way originally. Now you will have to heat up the skin. Using a paper bag and an iron so you can iron and scrape off all the glue. Not easy and very time consuming. Then you will need to re glue the entire skin. Almost three to 4 tubes of gold label adhesive from BD. Let them dry then they will work for maybe a season. You are better off just getting new skins.
This happened to my G3 skins this year it was a pain. Had to scrape all the old glue off and put a new tube of Black Diamond glue on. I believe it's something with how the glue oxidizes and changes its properties

dunno if you've ever done it personally or how fat and long your skis were but it takes two tubes, and a couple hours to reglue skins. not a big deal by any means. some beers and a well ventilated area and your skins are good as new.

I've done it many times. We no longer offer this as a service at the shop because its not worth it. It sucks. I tell all customers go for it if you want. We stock the gold label Glue and will set you up. Then we will see you back in the shop in a day or two to buy new skins. Go for it if you want, I'm not saying it cant be done. All I'm saying is, its not worth the effort.
I'm actually having this problem right now with my G3 Alpinist skins. Local shop told me that a base with little or no wax will take a lot of the glue off. The skins might have gotten heat at some point during storage, so they could be done for.
You use base cleaner to take the glue off, it doesn't come off with skiing (I've tried). The base cleaner will also take the wax off the skis, so make sure to re-wax the skis.
Not sure if this will fix the problem, so you might have to buy new skins.
Hope this helped!
