I fellow snow lovers! I am new member to this site, but have been following it as a guest for a while. Anyone have any experience with the SPKs? I am looking for a new boot and have a wide foot and heard these are great for wide foot skiers.
Go to a boot fitter. You don't know till you try them on.
Personally I think the SPK is a horrible boot. Soft, way to much flex, not aggressive enough. I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pole. But thats just me.

that's entirely subjective though, without knowing the age, height, weight, and skill level of the skier. to my knowledge, the SPK is (was) made most recently in four different flex grades; 75 - 85 - 90 - 100. While flex rating is not universal across all boot brands, you can get a pretty good idea of the stiffness of the boot using these.
I have a medium width food, with medium-high instep height, and skied in the old black & white SPK. One problem I encountered was the bottom buckle, when buckled tightly, would pinch the top of my foot fairly hard, but not necessarily bind the outside of my foot to the point of discomfort. the flex was firm enough to drive the boot on steeps, but soft enough to have some forgiveness in the park (I was 6'1", 170 at the time).
OP, if you are on the smaller side both in terms of height & weight, you'll likely require something with a lower flex rating. If you are heavier (like I am now), you may want something stiffer. It depends entirely on what you intend to do with the boot.
I own them and haven't totally had any problems. On the heavier end and they definitely have a wide toe box, i wiggle my toes without a problem (almost too much). And talked about above the flex is super soft..i like them though.

Unless you found an 2 year-old boot for sale somewhere, the SPK no longer exists. It was a wider lasted, lower volume boot and it has been replaced by a narrow, low volume boot called the Ghost FS. If you have a wide foot, the new version is not an option you should consider. As mentioned, go to a boot-fitter and have him select the boot that works best for your foot shape, ankle flexibility, weight, height, and strength.
Boot fitter is 100% the way to go to make sure but I've been riding a pair of the 90 flex SPK's for 3 seasons and they have been really sweet. They have become way too worn in over the last season and have now become extremely soft but until then they have been great.
Just go to a boot fitter and have it figured out, if they fit your foot then they'll be sick.
I'm 6'2" weight between 190-200lbs depending on the weekend consumption. I know the SPK is not made anymore, I've been to the only boot fitter in Montana in Billings that I know of.
