I was just curious if anyone else gets a surge of pain landing in certain ways, and if there are ways to prevent it. Whenever I land switch from even a small booter I get this odd sense of pain that shoots from mid-leg to mid thigh. I don't wear a knee brace while skiing, but I do while working out (Dead-lifts, and squats only) but I also never had an injury to my knee.
I get sudden knee pain when I land big to flat..... Or land on my knees.
See, thats the thing, I don't typically have cramps and It would be more of an easy on/ easy off for pain, but I get this type of Lightening bolt pain that is gone by the time I get to a chair lift (Like 20 seconds maybe even more).
I sometimes get that pain as well, but it rarely happens I don't know but I think its a cramp but if you're certain its not cramps visit your doctor or something :)

why do you wear a knee brace while working out if you've never had a knee injury?

Its more support and acts more preventative than anything since I usually do a lot of weight and wouldn't want to risk my knee buckling while lifting anything over 200lbs in a squat or dead-lift exercise.
I pinched a nerve in my back in late March, and for a few weeks afterward certain movements would shoot a lightning bolt through my thigh. I remember bending over to the right while sitting in a desk, and I yelped in pain. But then I did the exact same motion later on, and I felt no pain. It healed itself after a few weeks of stretching. Which is usually the case with a lot of my injuries.

Keep working your legs out, hop on the spin cycle on the off days, do squats, and keep the variety up when working out. Missing leg does fuck you over in the long run. Keeping the legs strong means stomping. Also stretch it out before you get on the hill, warm up for a bit and do some good stretches at the top of the lift after a few mellow turns to really get warmth going. Maybe a warm up lap or a hot lap is in order in the morning or right after lunch to get the blood flowing and the knees pumping. At the end of the day do the same thing to run the lactic acid out of your muscles and cool down before you have to sit in a car for a while or go party with your mates. Hope this helps man, I totally get ya, most of last season I had bad hip pains and just working out and building strength is what ya have to do to overcome it. A buddy of mine uses a supplemental brace when his knee is not feeling too strong some days to help him out. That seems to work and if it continues, you may want to go into a doctor to have them check it out.

Thanks man! Thats the thing, I think my legs are surely strong enough with my squat and dead lift One-rep maxs being over 400. I think its just either me, or my hips or bad landing technique. I do appreciate it a lot though.
GregFlikmid-leg to mid thigh
IT band - I would bet money on it
go to a specialist though.
