So I ride at Park City and have been for 10 years, but this season I have been noticing a lot of annoying things happening at the mountain. I just don't get the home mountain vibes anymore. I recently got a warning on my pass for going under a rope, if I get caught again I get a 28 day suspension on my pass. super lame, two years ago I would've just gotten told not to do that again. Anyway what are your thoughts on Vail and them buying out all these resorts specifically Park City?
buy one pass, and its good for like 12 different resorts.........yeah it really sucks
Quit going under the rope and doing shit you shouldn't.
I ski in the Midwest and I enjoy it, so I'm not going to worry about the west.
I mean other than the mid-level management, its the same. You guys are acting like powdr corp wasn't a huge fucking company either haha
Definitely agree vibes have changed at PC... really makes me sad
send'r over the rope, ducking ropes is so 2000 bro. #newschool
UilyJeffQuit going under the rope and doing shit you shouldn't.
ok mom
Isn't a warning the same thing as getting told not to do it again?
yea it totally blows. Vail resorts is the only one that doesnt comply with the "ropes are only for decoration" policy

Exactly! Let's break the rules, and then complain when we get in trouble for breaking the rules

Seriously, if you don't do anything wrong there is a 99% chance you won't have any issues...

This.
Finance a mountain happy to have your business that is poor and you won't have issues even if you want to do things that are wrong most likely such as ducking a rope. Or spend the $ to go to Europe where you can go wherever you want and ropes are non existent.
These guys are doing you a favor at the prices they charge and since they likely have more pass holders than they want there is no reason for them not to ban anyone for the slightest thing.
Its a must tho for anyone living out west in those ski areas too good a deal. I loved that thing the year I had it even scooped the free dates in Europe. It also made other good mountains behave reasonably towards customers. My Stowe pass is a dank ass deal and I get 50% off everything on the mountain collective through it. Thanks Vail.
IK bruh, I can't even expose myself on the bunny hill anymore

you'll figure out ducking ropes isn't that exciting sooner or later. And if you're looking for access to fresh turns, just go get a touring setup/gear/knowledge and have at it. No need to disrespect terrain closures that patrol specifically designates for good reasons. They don't want to have to call your mom and tell them you're ass is frozen stiff because you wanted some freshies, but go for it I guess. Obviously its early season and not much is open, but the rules still apply and OP didn't get his pass pulled. PC used to just take your pass instead of taking some skier safety courses or getting back after a month, so if anything he kinda lucked out especially considering the amount of people that were skiing this past week or two.
i feel that of all the resorts vail resorts are the most strict and are generally rude to season pass holders as to other resorts give priority to season pass holders...
Lol. "Dude I'm going to one of those more hardcore raw mountains where they let me duck the ropes and do whatever the fuck I want" *gets caught in avalanche*

Agree with what your saying, I have the AT setup and I do go after it, and maybe its a little different in the NW, but generally its a ski at your own risk situation, and if you are not qualified or comfortable in the terrain you are in then you get your dumbass out of there. Im guessing this is a way bigger issue at PC because you have a lot more jerry's to patrol which i totally understand and I am not one to directly disobey patrols by any means but side country and skin tracks off the backside of mountains and just under lines are definitely a good time when conditions permit.
I agree with you. They have people now on payroll who just stand on runs and hand out tickets. As if there were a huge number of accidents when there were just slow signs instead of deuchebags in yellow jackets handing out yellow tickets like we were on the freeway. Also they scan my pass every goddamn time I lap the park. I probably took like 30 laps the other day and got scanned everytime? WTF? It's like a 5 minute interval that you saw me last.
All in all these are pretty minor complaints but the vibe IS different and I can easily tell only skiing three seasons total at PC.

You guys are babies, pc has been owned by a huge corp for years, you guys just didn't think about it. Now that vail bought it and changed the colors of the lift stations and uniforms all of a sudden its way different. Stop complaining
i feel like if the park is the same then you guys are fine, and just looking for things to complain about.
"I just don't get the home mountain vibes anymore."
park city has given me puke in my mouth corporate vibes since i was a boyish manchild
yeah park city was this small untapped hill that most of the world had never heard of till vail came in and ruined it for everyone.
I mean your huge complaint is that you ducked a rope and got handed a warning? there are plenty of small mtns that pull passes for that.
If you duck a rope thats a risk you take. you got caught, deal with it. Or bitch about how vail fucked your girlfriend shot your dog and ruined your life
UilyJeffQuit going under the rope and doing shit you shouldn't.
The pussy is strong in this one
zakattack66The pussy is strong in this one
Ignorant teenagers. Go ahead and duck the rope, everybody's done it. However, it certainly isn't ski patrol's fault when you're skiing out of bounds and they clip your ticket.
What I said is pretty much common sense to most humans who have a brain. But if you think that makes me a pussy, you are entitled to that opinion. Now go do your homework kid.
I find it absolutely ridiculous that people trash Vail resorts. Go any where else in the world and find as many mountains on one pass as an Epic pass, especially at such a cheap rate compared to other passes.
No one made you ski there. There are plenty of other mountains you can go throw your money at. People need to quit bitching about there on free will choices!

How about when you live in a town, have a great job, and deep roots established. And then a corporation comes in and changes a bunch of shit? Is it okay to complain then?

What did they change?
all i know is there is no more happy hour at baja after today and theyre raising drink prices and that pisses me the fuck off
I'm more annoyed with the guys in yellow jackets (mountain safety i guess?) whose only purpose is to yell at people. Every time I pass them they just stare at me, even though I don't ski fast at all... just makes me feel guilty for no reason
Hopefully in a few months when it decides to snow again they will be more spread out and not on any real terrain
I have 7,000 acres to ski and I can't ski them all because ski patrol closed them due to unforeseen dangers.
danbrownall i know is there is no more happy hour at baja after today and theyre raising drink prices and that pisses me the fuck off
Wait what. even on margaritas? that's fucked
also, fuck the yellow coats. yeah powdr corp was a big company, but they didn't take your pass for skiing fast. that shit really grinds my gears

They'll probably be pretty cheap still, they said something about it being a dollar more, so $6.75 for a coronarita and 4.75 for a marg. In reality, those could be $12 and $15 and tourists would still buy them.
And they definitely took passes for going too fast, remember the video 4bi9 posted with top getting yelled at/sledded off the mountain by ski patrol? Nothing has changed you babies, every year ski patrol sits at slow signs and yells at you all day, just because they're 'yellow jackets' now everyone notices?
I think its bullshit they painted over the 3 kings towers with boring grey...
I miss this

Sure, it's not the end of the world. But have you seriously not noticed a difference? I've witnessed/heard of more issues with them in the beginning of this season than in the past few years combined. Maybe you just don't shred, try going fast some time. It's fun.
Until some square blows his lame ass whistle at you. Whatever, PC has aids anyway

This. Really tho, the lifts not having the athletes painted on them is total bullshit, vail added a new type of ski patrol- yellow jacket ski cops that pull you over for almost anything, and almost all of the park crew is brand new... Also kings crown got relocated to a tiny ass run.

Ever since I've skied at park city, 8 seasons now, they have ALWAYS had ski patrol or other volunteers sit at slow signs and yell at you for going too fast. The yellow jackets aren't a new concept, its been happening at pc since I've been skiing here.

This weekend, some bro decided to duck a rope and show his girl the dope fresh inbounds pow off the back of Stevens pass that hadn't been opened yet. She proceeded to get slid and pinballed through a few trees.
I've never been anywhere in the US that is remotley okay with ducking ropes..
For good reason. And yeah, patrol still isn't stoked if your not accessing the BC through the proper gates.
As for yellow coats, I've never had any issues either... Even when going super fast. It's pretty simple, throw some crisp sharp slalom carves in as you approach to show how in control you are. A lot of jackasses think they are in control while skiing fast, but actually aren't. Just gotta quickly show that you are.
Vail sucks for many reasons, many of which the average guest or town person will not see.
Your argument is invalid. You are just a retard.
Vail does a lot of good things, but a lot of bad as well. It is 6's. I will not go into politics, but let me say that I will never give them a dime of my money, for way better reasons then your fuck ass ducking a rope and getting yelled at.
Ropes and boundaries are meant to keep the joeys out of the goods. Poach it like you stole it.
How would you compare Keystone to Vail? I'm flying in to denver and can ski anywhere relatively close. Any suggestions?

do you like park? Keystone
do you like crowds? Vail
When you help find a 12 year old kid who hiked into a closed area. (Taft) tell me how you feel about assholes like you leaving tracks for little kids who are skiing on their own and don't have an adult to tell them not to duck a rope. And die in an avalanche because they saw a bunch of tracks doing it, so they thought it was ok.
