What's happening out there in the world?

I think it's just the trendy thing to do/it's social media's fault. It's really dumb. Bring the hate. Yes some of these issues are real, but a lot of people are causing trouble where there isn't any. Welcome to 2015, year of butthurt.
You can't just accuse somebody of not doing enough and ask them to resign. What can they do? Issue a statement? Maybe issue some sort of penalty? The dean or whoever's in charge can't just patrol the campus and punish everybody who offends somebody else. If some random group of students at any school made up some sort of injustice, they could easily create a large enough social media shitstorm to cause a lot of trouble for somebody in charge. That would make a good social experiment.
Obviously the death threats are different and that's a police matter, not the dean of some school or whoever. I don't see how people are yelling at the guy for death threats that occurred.

While I agree that perhaps much of this has been blown out of proportion, it absolutely is the administration's responsibility to (at least attempt to) control the social climate on campus. They do that not by striking down sinners (those targeted by these mobs) with lightning, but by acting to support diversity, which means fostering an inclusive campus community. Inaction is seen by many as complacence. The discussion of whether our universities are coddling students is another, albeit related, animal, but most would agree that a campus is best when anyone can feel comfortable studying or discussing anything with anyone else.
I may not agree with what's been taking place, but it is pretty well known that diversity in academia is not very well accepted or fully practiced. I don't think you can make up any old issue to fuck with administration - this issue has been around for a long time, and most schools are attempting to be proactive to fix it.
These students seem to mostly want to know that the administration hears their voices and is committed to improving the campus community with them in mind. Again, I'm not saying that I agree with any of what's happened in these past weeks - I don't know enough about them.
because there are racist hate crimes happening at these colleges, idiot

10/10 for sources.
I'm at the University of Pittsburgh and a ton of students just had a protest about raising tuition I'm assuming. I just saw a giant sign from my roof that said "raise hell, not tuition"
The school is pretty urban and they just blocked a major artery into the city and there's a three hospitals right on our campus, hopefully no one needed to get there.

Jinkies.
I'm sending in shaggy and scooby to investigate.

Even if the KKK weren't there in their cute little white knight costumes. They still have an influence over these young men. You seem so hung up on one officials facebook post that let's be honest no one but the blaze.com reported, because the blaze lol. And now you're going to ignore death threats and black students feeling unsafe in their own college.

Careful, I'm sure you've seen how viciously socialist progressives go after black people that do not adhere to left-wing dogma.

That was one of the most annoying things I've ever encountered. And now that I know that it was a bunch of whiney ass college kids, that pisses me off even more.
