i saw a post about these on Instagram and I'm just trying to spread the word. They look just like the alpine trekkers (day wreckers). they could really change the game people that aren't about to drop 400$ on touring bindings but still go touring a few times a year. For now they're just prototypes but in the post they said they're going to come out in 2016
Bump for a rad product idea. My buddies Chris and the infamous Ahmet's Brother are actually the guys behind this idea and have been busting their hump for a while now to get this project going and refine the idea into a legit touring solution that is an alternative to Trekkers. With the skiing and engineering background these guys have, I know it's going to turn out great.
I love these kind of contraptions. The big benefit i see with an add on vs an AT binding is that it allows you to have a standard bomber alpine binding on all your skis, and then choose which ski from your quiver to tour on for that day.
Id be very, very interested in trying a pair. What is the expected price? Are they doing a kickstarter and giving a discount/early release to the "investors"?
How can i get them to shut up and take my money already?

It sounds like they will be announcing a Kickstarter campaign in the next few weeks, and as of now it will be priced between $250-275.
They were doing some more testing up at Brighton the other day, looking good!

They should post more vids/explanations of the actual workings, and then do a well publicized AMA on TGR. $300 isn't cheap, so the more info they can get out, the better.

For sure man. I know it's all in the works and I'm sure they will be getting the word out with all of the nitty gritty details here on NS, as well as TGR.

And the brand's Instagram is daymakertouring
First, Thanks OP for the support! We really appreciate it! We are really glad people are interested in learning more about our idea for a touring adapter. We are a product designers and mechanical engineers and we are only interested in making totally kick ass products. We really wanna hear what you guys have to say, positive or negative, because we are finalizing manufacturing CAD files this week and we can totally use all the input we can get!
Here are the basics of our design:
- DAYMAKERS clamp onto bottom of a regular ski boot, DAYMAKERS clicks into regular ski binding (just like trekkers)
- Easily adjustable to fit sizes 22.5 through 31.5
- Two flip up climbing bars for steeper ascents
- 4-Bar hinge inspired by mountain bike suspensions, provides more stiffness, more efficient climbing, better traction, and better clearances that allow for a low profile design. totally unlike any other touring system on the market, which all use a single pivot point.

This guy gets it! this is one of the biggest benefits in our eyes. The reality is most people with AT frame bindings only actually tour a few days a year. An adapter system allows you to have regular skis and tour when you want to.
We will be launching our website soon followed shortly thereafter by a kickstarter to fund the initial production run. We are just two guys working day/night jobs too so we are going as fast as we possibly can! We will have final pricing out once we get our files finalized but right now we are hoping to MSRP around 300, with a nice hearty discount for our kickstarter backers.
CaseyAre you just stomping on your heelpiece all day? Is there an ability to adjust for steeper inclines?
The clearances are really close to be sure, but because it is a four bar linkage, we have been able to precisely tune the path the boot moves through so we can clear the bindings while creating a really natural walking motion. We do have a two position climbing bar system as well for steeper inclines.

That's a great idea. We know the TGR folk are serious so we are working on some great material that explains all of the engineering data on the hinge and how it affects your stride. We want to to get the word out so early so anyone who might be looking for this type of product will know about it now before buying something they might regret. Also, regarding the price, we are working to make a really high quality product that will last you a long time, and wont leave you stranded out in the cold. We are building as much of the product as possible from 302 stainless steel because metal is awesome.
TheBigAppleWhy wouldn't you just buy touring bindings for the same price or a bit more?
For big tours or pow turns, tech bindings on light skis are unbeatable, but for shorter sidecountry excursions, first timers, shitf*ck conditions, or gettin sendy you need or want the big setup. this product is not trying to be a replacement for tech bindings.
My big thing is I wanna know which bindings these will be compatible with, especially with rossi fks's? If they are compatible with look and rossi bindings then I am sold
If they're in the ballpark of $250 I'm thinking I'll pick up a pair. Love the idea of being able to choose whichever ski I want for the day and also having binding that won't shit the bed when at the resort. Good stuff
First off, fucking sick idea boys. I've been trying to get my brother to redesign trekkers for years. I think there is a market for these but it's tough these days with the AT gear out there. First I think you need to make sure you have a few of your ideas straight.
Obviously tech is the ultimate touring gear for travelling (you get that already). Tech toe pieces and a few heel pieces are fucking solid for skiing but usually the heels suck. The boots aren't perfect yet either.
Frame bindings are interesting. You can tour a ton on them but it's an inefficient stride and not very anatomical. You can fuck yourself up putting to many miles on such a heavy awkward set up. Some frame bindings develop too much play for skiing to justify the weight and awkwardness. I've done many years of 40-50 touring days on Dukes and Guardians. Tons of people tour tons of days a year on frame bindings. I'm not sure where you get your 'stats' from. Another problem with frame bindings are they are only on one pair of skis.
Trekkers suck balls but they are dirt cheap and get you out there. They are clunky, no torsional rigidity, loosen all the time, are awkward to put on and ice up like a mofo. I did some random tours and a full season of 40 days on them. You can also choose whichever skis you want to put them on as long as your skins fit. BC jib day or sledding? Choose your set up.
I assume your daymakers are going to be more torsionally rigid. If they aren't. Save your time. Weight? Not the most important thing, especially at the sacrifice of performance. Make sure they don't freeze up too. I think the most important thing is price. Obviously if you only have to buy one pair it is cheaper. You can also get away with cheaper boots (non tech). But, as an entry level touring binding, it is a bit of a shock to see them the same price as frame and tech bindings. Because for that same price you can at least have one full on touring rig. I think most people will look at it like this too. So, drop the price or be prepared to have a good pitch. That being said, you are probably selling to a younger market (17-25) so be prepared to deal with tight wallets.
I love the idea and kudos to you for doing it. Despite wanting reinvented trekkers, I would not purchase for $300. $200, maybe. Not trying to hate, just honest thoughts.
Figured I'd post up an update on where things are at with the Daymakers Alpine Touring Adapters. Things are going a little slower than we were hoping but we are still cranking away and making awesome progress every day. We are shooting for a small first order to arrive for this spring and full blown availability for the coming 16/17 season. The price is set at $279 for a pair.
We received our first round of production prototypes earlier this month, and we couldn't be more stoked on the quality of the assembly and general fit and finish. These things are BURLY! We knew we had found a good factory, but after getting our samples back we are certain our manufacturing partners are the right folks to make these things.
We have been testing the bejeesus out of these samples, and ensuring the design fits with every binding out there. Our initial design fit markers and Tyrolia's just fine, but was sloppy with Salomon toes and wouldn't click into FKSs at all. After hitting the drawing board again, we have refined our toe and heel lug designs to the point where they click right into every boot/binding combination we have tested so far. It has been way more work and taken longer than we had hoped to chase all the gremlins out, but the time spent is really starting to pay off and we can't wait to get them here for all of us (we want them too!)
