Basically one time last season I had a pretty bad fall and ended up really hurting my knee. It was swollen for a bit over a week, maybe 2, then was full of some kind of gooey liquid. I got an MRI but there was no visible damage so I waited for the swelling to go and eventually the goo went too. Problem solved I thought? Apparently not. Now pretty much after every ski session my knee is swollen, it's not particularly sore and I can move it fine but I'm guessing this isn't good for my knee. Basically what I'm wondering is, is this going to end up causing long term damage and should a knee brace be enough to stop it happening?
I had a friend last year that tore his acl slipping on ice last year. We were on a school trip so he didn't want to check with the doctor and he skied on it for two more days. When we got home he talked to the doctor and and they had to do surgery. He's been wearing a brace for nine months now and probably isn't going to be able to ski at all this year.
Not really sure whats wrong but whenever my knees take high impact or stress, especially when skiing or lifting weights, my knees start to hurt really bad and after a full day of skiing it takes me about 5 minutes to be able to straighten my leg completely. It hurts really bad. Im wearing a compression brace to help stop it from moving and stressing, but it doesn't completely help. I think its from growing pains because I'm hitting a growth spurt but I'm not sure. Its been going on for the last year.

I had a similar problem for a few years, and ended up after a lot of different doctor visits getting some physical therapy. Turned out I was using my knees wrong, I had about two months of visits, a lot of jumping and a lot of squats, but I haven't had much knee pain since and whenever it starts bothering me again I resume my exercises and it goes away.
chicknfriedsteakTurned out I was using my knees wrong,
lol, damn bro
to the OP, have talked to your doctor about this swelling after every time you ski?

No, maybe I should though.....
I had this issue after biking this year, bad seat position and always using a wicked high gear. Eventually I had to take a long break from it. For short term recovery ice helped a lot, it just doesn't go away easy. Having your weight over the balls of your feet might help too.
