do you guys know how close you can park to a fire hydrant without googling it? I just got a ticket this morning for parking too close to one and had no idea there was a standard distance you were supposed to be away from them. $115 mistake :/
it's generally a car length from the hydrant or outside of the painted curbs
I mean, its common sense to not park close to a fire hydrant, take responsibility and just pay your ticket.
I don't get why everywhere doesn't paint the curbs.

cause its common fucking sense. If you are so unaware of where you parked that you dont see the hydrant you deserve the ticket.
my guess is that the OP parked 5 feet away, thinking that he was still allowing access to it and therefore it was fine.
It's 15 feet everywhere in the US OP. But I live in the city and I see people brake this law all the time. Its not all that enforced, but sometimes the meter maids will write a 45$ ticket.

I've seen lots of places where the paint is only 5 feet on either side of the hydrant.

therefore you cannot park in front of that red curb, AND within ____ ft of the hydrant.
You passed a test with that dimension posed as a question, and are legally obligated to know it.
