So I recently got hurt and fucked up bad. I'm still in a neck brace 3 months later. I have never gotten hurt skiing becides a bruised back and fucked up knees. My parents now give me an incredibly hard time when I talk about possibly skiing again this march when I'm healed. I talk about skiing next summer. The injury is unrealated and I know they do it out of love but im constantly harassed for wanting to ski again. I love to ski so much....it's an addiction but I feel like I would get more shit about skiing then smoking weed. ill randomly be watching a ski edit And my parents especially my mom will give me a hard time about it. She constantly will talk about how I am gonna be parylized and how there life will suck. Any body else have problems with skiing and parents?
My parents don't care about skiing, but they lose their minds when I ride a bike without a helmet. Logic is irrelevant I guess.
Ever since I broke my collar bone trying to backflip, my parents have always told me no more flips when I go out. Then, summer skiing, I sliced my finger open on the edge of my ski. My parents were not super impressed.
that blows man i was raised on skis im not sure my dad could live without skiing but my mom is always freaking about how dangerous it is. you just gotta convince them its there to stay i get shit for being over obsessive about it fasho but the parents now understand that its my greatest love and all i want to do and as long as im careful theyre happy that im happy

godspeed on your recovery and in the end, life is for living. go out and have fun.
Somebody once said "The feeling I get from skiing, that's worth dying for."
Try that one on them.
I got a concussion in the park once and now my parents freak if I even go near a park or jumping off anything. My mom also knows a lot of the ski patrollers and try know who I am so word always gets back to them.

Didn't read again. Guessing it's about your injury again.
God I hope you get better soon.
You know what's great about being 25? Not having to ask parents for permission to do anything.
On the real though, make a really good case/argument as to why you think you need to start skiing again. Describe your passion, make it relate to them somehow.
What is your injury. If your still in a neck brace then I'm guessing spinal which may mean they are actually bein the smart ones. Have doctors sia you should be skiing? If they sia you are fine then yeah it's just them worrying which is perfectly normal and trust me you would have many more issues if they did not give a shot about you. If you really did fuck yourself and another fall could be very serious then maybe take a step back and think. Yes skiing rules but is it worth a life changing injury you could potentially avoid. I destroyed my shoulder skiing and after every injury I would just keep skiing. Now two surgeries later I have to be supper carefull not just skiing but in everyday life. Trust me having to take a month off work becaise of some dumb injury sucks. all Im saying is maybe just think they may be tryin to save you from yourself.

Holy helicopter parenting...
How old are you?
i got aids banging my skis. parents aren't happy.

Skiing is worth all that and more. I mean, if you can avoid the injury by all means do, but you never know when an injury will happen. Sometimes it's stupidity, sometimes it's bad luck, and that's just the way of the sport(road). To OP, don't ski until the docs give you the clear. It could be sooner than expected or it could be much longer than expected but it's important that you keep a positive mental state and think about the day you will finally ski again, because it WILL come.
Coming from a guy currently recovering a torn ACL.
Also, I'm glad that my parents are super supportive about it, letting me ruin their backyard with a summer setup and always driving me to the hill/encouraging me through my recovery because they know how much I truly love skiing

i will be 25 in November and have been skiing park sense like 17 or so and my parents have been still are and always will be the same thing. Wait till you get older man . . . then its that, plus how you need to grow the fuck up. smh
Mine just say be careful because I'm a muthafuck G and do what i want.
I think it helps to have a parent (or both) that is involved in the sport. My dad loves skiing just as much as i do, so he understands i wanna go as much as i do. I broke both of my wrists twice (2 from skiing, 1 from skateboarding, and 1 from mtb) so they now force me to wear wrist guards, but im fine with that

That was back in high school and only last like 2 months of senior year. I only really ski there over winter break and the park is really crappy anyhow. I'll be 20 in like a week.
I wasn't aloud to hit city rails or any urban without asking for permission from the Mayer of the city for a while.

ya even if I say I'll wear a spine guard they still will worry and are super uptight haha parents.

For sure but my point was if he is say in the position where one small fall could be very serious you have to reevaluate. I am in the position where if I dislocate my shoulder again that's it and I have to have it fused and that is pretty much my skiing (and many other things) finished. I still ski hard but I'm not going to risk never skiing again by doing somthing stupid. I'm happier being able to ski then not so I don't care I have to take it easy.

Pretty much this. Once you get to a point in life when you have a career where others depend on you (co-workers, clients, families, etc), you realize that although skiing is awesome, there are other priorities in life. #oldguyproblems
I broke my back skiing in italy in april and was bummed that I couldn't ski at killington closing weekend but looking back it made sense because I got cleared mid july and got back to airbag training. I'm now fully recovered and back on snow.
