louie.miragsas a veteran I recommend joining the military as a last resort. The Air force and the military in general is not as glamorous as the commercials make it out to be. Especially if you already have a college degree
I have a good idea what it's actually like. I have a history of military service in my family and relatives. Along with many friends in different branches. I won't join as a last resort but rather out of a sense of duty. What I'm looking at is either intelligence (geospatial) or space operations.

I just want to point out that "sense of duty" has been instilled on you via commercials, hollywood, recruiters in your high school and people glamorizing military service (they glamourize it because that is what they're taught to do). It is not until you're knee deep in a 4-8 contract that you realize that you're not feeling the same "sense of duty" they told you you would. You realize that you're fighting big government's battles and they do not give a shit about you.
1000s of Americans and countless (as much as a million) civilians in the middle east have died as a result of this "military action" since 2003. For what???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
I say this again, thousands of Americans like you and me, who thought they were doing their noble duty are DEAD. Killed. Before their prime. Before they got a chance to live life.
For what?
ICaryHahaha. I'm a server at a Carrabba's in Pennsylvania. They make us do all the tests and BBI shit in store and what not. It's ridiculous.
Ah gotcha. Definatly glad I got out of those....they let us do them at home though, so that really blows.
MNSkiersIts a pretty nice place to work. 10% discount. They are very flexible with your hours. Cashier sucks be on sales floor or back room. (When you start out you will be a cashier for a little bit)Other wise great pay and not too shabby
They're starting me on sales floor! I kinda fucked up though. I thought they said "a formal interview" but they really said "phone interview" so I wasn't supposed to come in today haha. But it all worked out and awkward enough my first interviewer was a guy I hooked up with last year. But t in my second one I actually talked to my interviewer for like 20 minutes about skiing and shit. He was really rad. I'm pretty stoked to start!

Honestly, I get the sense of duty from my family. And I always hear that if they could do it all over again they would.

Just one piece of advice. Be really clear about your scheduled to your Sr TL's or ETLs because they will not think twice about giving you really shitty hours. And don't be a stranger, the better they know you the more human they will treat you.

is it lonely up there on your pedestal?
Those men and women made a conscious decision to enlist for whatever their motives were. who are YOU to validate the honor of those service members. They believed in something, just as some people believe in religion. They knew the risk when they signed just as I did. I was ready to die just as they were, and that is OUR decision to make, not yours. You may not agree with the war, but honestly... who the fuck are you to tell me what I did was not noble or meaningful. What have you done that makes you so damn entitled to tell me if my service was for nothing or my colleagues lives were wasted? It's not your choice to make and don't even get started on that it was"propaganda/ you are brainwashed bullshit". But as I said.. who the fuck are you and what makes you so special to decide the validity, honor, motives, or selflessness of my or others service?
I sell commercial kitchen equipment. I represent 22 different manufacturers for Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Southern Illinois. I'm also the Director of Marketing / social media efforts.
I'm a ski tech at a t ski shop here in town. #yay
I was a bagger at a grocery store for 2 years. Loved it for a few days then hated it for 1.5 years, then loved it again because my supervisors loved me and I always was the first one they would ask to take overtime.
But now I'm a jobless, broke, college freshman. I need a job bad but already struggle with staying on top of studying and I'm only like 3 weeks in, I kinda suck really bad at time management.

Just because I share different opinions than you does not mean I feel "special". My point is I thought I was making an honorable, conscious decision. However, I realized that I just drank the kool-aid like everybody else. The problem is we're in a war that we have no idea why we're fighting. Foxnews and CNN report some bullshit propaganda and the masses buy into that shit. "Jealous of our freedoms" is how they sold it to us. Not true. Then it was "weapons of mass destruction" which was never proven. Now it is terrorist organizations. But we've killed 100,000+ people since 2003. So who is right? Is it really honorable to fight this blind war? What if the war was really about making sure those countries will keep providing us natural resources? What if this was really a war about oil? Those thousands of dead Americans didn't really know what they were in for. And that's not including the tens of thousands who are now disabled and/or PTSD. And since you avoided the question, you have no idea why we're in war either.
The major problem here is that we're taught from the time we're born to blindly support the war machine. That way people like you get pissed off at people like me. I am here trying to think outside the box and find ways that we don't have to murder anymore innocent civilians and you assume I put myself on a pedestal. Well, I don't. We're in this together and I don't want any more men or women (American citizens or not idgaf) to die for this cause. It is fucked up. This is some barbaric shit

No shame in not working freshman year. By the second semester I had a good enough routine to take on a job but I chose not to so I could focus on school. There's always winter break & summer to work.

Yeah I told the guy I only wanted to work 15 hours a week or about 3 days because of school and he seemed to understand. Thanks! I'll definitely keep that in mind. I'd imagine they have a fuck ton of employees so I can see how that would be helpful.

Wait so you admit that the war was illegitimate but still think joining that war and fighting in it isn't?
I'm all for a little discipline but I think it was overkill when your dad beat you over the head with a baseball bat at the age of 5.
Recently have made the jump over to the buyside from investment banking role. Now kind of a sales / analyst hybrid role for one of the top 20 investment management companies.
Awesome role and I love it. Hours are great as well now. Only major downside for me is that NYC absolutely sucks. Hate it here. One of the worst places I have ever lived. But I guess its a tradeoff for me between high paying job and location.

my dad was a good man, that's more than can be said about yours because you'll never be half the man your mother is

Therefore I will never be not a man.
ps. you're in denial about your government and are delusional. Not surprised that you're in law enforcement.

I'm glad you agree with me.
You must be pretty bored across the border if you gotta worry about our government considering you own government in teaming bribery and fraud scandals. the Ontario Liberal governments serious and high profile corruption cases including eHealth Scandal, and the Ornge scandal just to name a few. Also, pretty sure your mayor was a crack smoker as well, but he seemed like a stand up guy right? oh okay it all makes sense now with your last comment. Your preconceived notions make a lot more sense knowing you get all your information through more than likely one sided sources and have deep political conversations with your hippie drum circle friends while braiding each others girlfriends armpit hairs. Not surprised your anti law enforcement either.. I know the stores are selling guy fawkes masks to save you the trouble for halloween. I feel you man #FUCKTHAPOLICE

lol who says I support anything Harper, or the liberals, or any Canadian politician has done?
You blatantly admitted to being sarcastic about the very real reasons your country went to war, yet you are just assuming all of those things about me.
Also, you're not making a very good case for the general intelligence of those in law enforcement.

I'm just choosing not to take you seriously. I don't care what your opinion of me or LEO's are because you've obviously had your mind make up about law enforcement and the American political system before you even felt the need comment the first time. It's been fun, thanks.
i make things out of concrete with my amigos
Currently an E-5 in the U.S. Air Force as a generator mechanic stationed in Florida.

Live in Manhattan instead of training/subwaying in from Brooklyn or some other shithole and it won't be as bad just try and never spend any time in the crappy immediate surrounding areas of NYC (unless you are way out on Long Island or half way down the Jersey shore or basically in Hartford CT you get the point everywhere close to NYC other than midtown itself blows.)
Even Im looking at renting a studio in Manhattan for work/business opportunities its where the connections and the money are and being a Boston guy I probably dislike the NYC metro area even more than you!
Im self employed still gamble on sports and sell tickets for my primary income but I am trying to branch out in both of those two areas. And I have some new ventures about to get underway and some patents pending. Just stay hustling and never lose faith in yourself if you want to be entrepreneurial!
push carts and cash at a grocery store, not a bad gig. I live in a touristy area so I have to deal with a lot of arrogant rich snobs in the summer but it's just meh in the fall. Pushing carts is nice tho, get to bullshit with my buddies all day.
Might try to get on park crew at my local mountain this year as well as do some free lance filming here and there.
KravtZRecently have made the jump over to the buyside from investment banking role. .
Likewise. Recently moved into PE after a fews in IB.
