Heading back to school I'm trying to get a job at the local ski shop as a ski technician. I have a credible resume outside of the skiing/retail world with a pretty good range of past jobs that would give good recs for me. That being said, I have really no background in the ski industry other than my obvious passion for the sport. I would really take any job in the shop and then hopefully move to a ski technician position but do you guys have any advice before I set up an interview?
Learn some shit about working on skis.
But for real if you go into the interview and show your passion for skiing, and you just straight up tell them you really dont know much about working on skis but really want to learn then they'll be pretty accepting. As long as you have that passion and desire to learn then that's more than can be said for a lot of people.
Working in a ski shop can be sick or it can be kinda boring. It's sick when you actually help someone out and you feel like you impacted them in a positive way and made a difference. It's the best feeling. But when you are just like setting up rentals and torque testing and shit it can be kinda boring. But I love working at a ski shop
So just show them your passion for skiing and your willingness to learn and you should have a job in no time. It also helps if your somewhat mechanically talented
Good luck op I hope you get a rad job

Pretty spot on my first year working in the shop they put me on the sales floor but I'm a god awful salesman and my people skills suck so since then I've been a tech and its pretty tight. Working in a shop is awesome though get to meet a bunch of new people to ride with and shop employee pro form discounts are the bees knees.
