the companies just making skis haven't imo. some larger skiing media though, such as magazines and big film companies like WME definitely have though

I don't think most ski brands have lost touch at all. Case in point, message almost any ski brand on here or social media and I bet you'll get a reply pretty quickly, now do that with some mainstream brand, I bet you get an automated reply that has nothing to do with your question and involves you emailing a certain department or making a phone call. If anything, ski brands have increased their communication with people over the years. How many ski companies now have live chats (some even run by their athletes, which is cool), or encourage social media interaction.
