So next February in going to nz to study abroad and I'll be staying in Dunedin for a month finishing my degree and staying with a host family. After that I will have 2 months left on my visa and possibly more if I work. I'm thinking about heading up to Queenstown and doing some climbing and rafting. What else would be cool to do? Were are the best places to go? Thanks guys
I'm headed to Wanaka ( about 45 min from Queenstown) on Tuesday so i'll let you know the sweet things I get to do!
my fiancee and I spent a week in new zealand in june. It was a super cool trip.
Make sure to get some hiking or tramping done in the mountains. We went to the pinnacles park and stayed in one of the maintained huts. it was fantastic.
I went bungee jumping for the first time and it was fun but over super quick.
hit up some geothermal stuff. we went to some hot springs and then a maori village built around some geysers and pools. pretty cool stuff.
We also went to hobbiton which was pretty cool if youre into LOTR. if youre not into lotr it's still a beautiful location. it's the stereotypical rolling green hills with sheep every where.
I studied abroad in Dunedin for 4 months this past February, you're gonna love it.
Best decision we made was buying a cheap car of trademe (the NZ craigslist).
PM me if you want any info on Dunedin/Wanaka/Qtown/etc. and stuff to do.
I stayed busy the whole time and still had so many opportunities for more.
I used to live there about 8 years ago, and I have spent a lot of time there since then traveling all over with my friends and family who live there. I have spent most of my time on the North Island, but I have experienced Queenstown and a few other places around the South Island. Just beware, Queenstown is very expensive, but it's still a great place. Here are my favorite places that I'd recommend traveling to:
1. Waiheke Island - about a 20 minute long ferry ride from Auckland, has some wicked views, some super nice beaches, and tons of good fishing.
2. Wairarapa Coast - Sheep, fish, just about every cool thing that you can experience in NZ.
3. National Park - Ski town, wicked sites to see.

AKskiaQueenstown is very expensive
Not really... maybe compared to other places in NZ, but compared to Switzerland/whistler/aspen and most other places that it rivals for excitement, it's cheap once you get there
