Unfortunately this past season after all my years of skiing I finally suffered my first knee injury, a torn ACL and medial meniscus to be exact. I was super bummed because I just graduated college in December and looked forward to having a really fun and progressive season. but I know that injury is pretty much inevitable when it comes to our sport so I guess it is what it is. Anyways, it happend at the beginning of January, because of timing and other circumstances I didn't end up getting surgery until the end of May, I actually still skied on it real lightly throughout the rest of the season (with a brace of course). I'm now 9 and a half weeks out from surgery and am feeling stronger everyday, in the gym 7 days a week now for PT. I've got that mentality of coming back as stronger, healthier, and an overall better skier than I was before this season, but I know thats easier said than done. Just wondering if anyone who has been through this before has any tips or words of advice to offer, anything would be really appreciated!
I'm kinda in the same boat, ACL and medial meniscus two weeks post op. What kind of graft did you get? And how "normal" does your knee feel now?
Also were they able to repair your meniscus or did they just trim it and smoothen it out? Had to get mine trimmed :\
What ever you do, don't try to come back too early. Do exactly what your doc says. When he says you're good to go, you might want to give it a few weeks after that. I came back too early from a broken foot and ended up having to have two foot surgeries to fix it up. It's worth the wait until you are certain it is 100%.

I got my ipsetella patellar graft from my right knee, I was told that's what they recommend for young adult males. They gave me the option to take it out of my left knee, claiming that the there would less pain and struggle for my injured knee during rehab, but I didn't see why they need to cut open both my knees when only one was messed up so I took it from the right knee. Pain was gonna be inevitable so I just said fuck it. And they were able to fix my meniscus, I forgot how they did it though. I'm walking just fine, riding my actual bike again, and returned to work yesterday finally. Not really experiencing much pain anymore but I still got a ways to go so I'd say it's still far from being 'normal' again.

Right on, I also got a patellar graft from the same knee, how long till you were able to ride your actual bike? I just started a couple days ago doing 5-10min a day on a stationary bike with extremely low resistance. Thanks for the great response to! It's nice to get some info from others that are going through or have gone through the same thing

coming back early is probaly the worst thing you could do i tore my rectus femoris back in january (didnt require surgery) tried to ski lightly on it 6 weeks later and retore it and had to have surgery for it back in may
I had mine done March 25 and am at 80% strength and starting to jog and do jump training. No cutting or running yet. It's still painful at times as well. Take your time
I just blew my knee acl and meniscus is done.. i want to cry its snowing and i cant ski haha
This is my first Australian season back on ski's since my ACL, great to be back on and going through Australia. Make sure you stretch when you finally get back into it, helps so much with any pain.
