Im thinking of taking up scootering and wake boarding. Are these similar to park skiing in any way. What are Pros about them/challenges? Are They hard to pick up right away?
one of the challenges with wakeboarding is the whole 50k wakeboard boat thing.....
Why not roller blading and wake skiing? Makes a lot more sends to me
scootering is gay and is for 7 year olds, wake boarding is fun tho

THE BIGGEST challenge. I guess maybe lack of water but that's a given, and water is everywhere.
People say skiing is for rich people. If you don't have a good boat, or friends with someone that does it's hopeless.
Me and my cousin build a sketchy 2x4 tower tensioned with ropes to the bow, and had cinder blocks and rocks in the back. Got pulled over by the coast guard actually. Pretty rad.
Thug life
Wakeboarding isnt exactly the cheapest sport. It's fun though.
Scootering is pretty fun, but you get mad shit from everyone
My mom's old water skis Are a blast. just found them in the garage and shredded the fuck out of a lake with some friends.

An actual wakeboard boat is unnecessary. If you have a boat you just need to weigh it down to create a larger wake. They make in-boat water bladders for that or just have a bunch of friends in the boat. You can easily create a homemade tower.
I just carve around behind a jetski at my lake since we just have that and a pontoon on the water.
Wakeboarding is really easy to learn as well. It only took me a couple tries to get up and stay up. But it's a lot different than snowboarding and not similar to park skiing in the least.
Also, if you want a board made for tricks then get a three-stage rocker profile, and I highly recommend getting an impact vest.
might be an unpopular opinion but fuck it
wakesurfing > wakeboarding
if you really want to progress in the park op, you'll pick up kneeboarding

if you just want to ride around like a weekend warrior boner, then you're correct, a wb boat isn't necessary. if you want to get good, you really need to ride behind a wb boat. there's more to it than just the wake.

surfing's the shit, people rarely wakeboard around me. They only surf
Barefootin_Fiendone of the challenges with wakeboarding is the whole 50k wakeboard boat thing.....
You could make do with a dingy
Do something that you'll have fun doing, not because it transfers over to skiing. Pretty much any "extreme" sport will help your skiing, in some way or another.

This times infinity. Honestly ever sine I started wake surfing I have only wakeboarded like twice ever again. Surfing behind the boat is just unreal.

I mean it's like saying you can get good at skiing by shredding snowbanks and your local sledding hill. You could set up some rails and get decent at them, but you'll never have the jump game.
You could learn a few tricks, maybe build some sliders, but you're never going to be able to get good at throwing big tricks over the wake without a good boat. IT's just the way it is honestly.
i have a wakeboard for sale, you should buy it.

Completely agree, especially after a long day of wake boarding it's fun to just chill and wake surf. And also falling is just like nothing compared to wakeboarding

And you guys are absolutely right but sometimes a boat specifically for wakeboarding is unfeasible. In OP's case, if he doesn't already have a boat then hopefully he has access to a cable park.
JAHpowAnd you guys are absolutely right but sometimes a boat specifically for wakeboarding is unfeasible.
That's why I was suggesting that it's one of the most exclusive sports.
Hell, even running the shittiest boat isn't that cheap.

mostly, yes. I still managed to dislocate my shoulder wakesurfing once. barrel rolls are harder than they look on youtube
scootering is gay and the damn thing always hits your ankles, wakeboarding is great fun, try skateboarding as well
balance helps balance but no I don't think scootering is a good way to go about things lol
I used to wakeboard, it was fun, but I always got hurt so I took up wake surfing and a little bit of wake skating which would be really fun if one unlike me was good at skateboarding.

exactly. which is what makes it one of the biggest challenges of wakeboarding. yes, you can learn the basics behind something other that a wakeboard specific, but if you want to get good and throw big tricks, a wb boat w a tower is a must. the only other option would be if you had access to a cable park.
I know it is quite a drive, but if you wanted to see what a cable park is like I have heard that Nordic Mountains is pretty good. They have rentals for like $20.
Try kiteboarding to avoid the whole 50K boat thing.
One of the cons of scootering is that you will look like a 10 year old who is too lazy to get good at an actual sport like skating or vmx.
Scootering is pretty fun and easy to pick up obviously, thats why more kids do it, but I would advise against it to help skiing. blades are where its at because it will really help balance and step up your rail game.
Wakeboarding is ace, but I've fucked myself up a lot more from wakeboarding than I have skiing. Wakeboard slams are harsh. My knees and shoulders are wrecked. I ride behind a wake boat (Mastercraft X-Star) which I own along with 2 other friends. It costs a fortune to run and maintain but it's the best thing I've ever bought. So many fun times have been had on that boat! Ive ridden behind shitty boats with fat sacs and sure it's OK but once you ride behind a wake boat, you don't go back. But whoever said surfing is better, I'm with you. Now I'm getting older, I find surfing more enjoyable. Surfing is way more social, I surf whilst drinking and chatting to my friends on the boat, it's awesome..!

how much ballast does the x-star come with from factory?
I have an x2 and I loaded another 1600 lbs of fat sacks into the left side (800 stern, 400 mid, 400 bow). The wake is pretty damn tall now (just around waist height) but I'm trying to lengthen the pocket out some more

This dude who lives on the same lake as my grandpa has an X2 with such a loaded wake he was literally eroding the shores. The lake authority had to intervene. He wouldn't even use it for wakeboarding that much, just some dumb rich guy buying cool equipment to feel cooler

lol you would never load a boat down that much for wakeboarding unless you're trying to reach the moon. If you're trying to build a surf wake then you need the added weight
fr*ck yeah bro! scootering is hella rad!! see you in 7th grade next year OP!!!
Start blading, it helps with your skiing a lot.

Straight out of the factory it comes with 900 lbs, but we installed an additional ballast system which gives us an extra 1,900 lbs integrated into the factory system so total is 2,800. It's pretty crazy tbh!
